After failing to get into the Museo del Merletto (in Burano, Italy), Loopy was disappointed when he entered the shop to purchase a piece to take home. (The island has been known for it's lace since the 16th century.) Little did he know, the shop owner's gradnmother was one of the lace school's founder. Marta (the shop owner) spent two hours with Loopy and his traveling family demonstrating techniques, showing samples, and letting everyone meet the lacemakers. He left very happy!
The photo shows some typical pieces. Each lacemaker specializes in only one stitch - therefore a piece needs to be circulated to many before it can be completed.
