Loopy’s New Home
See this building? This is the site of the new “Loopy Room”, as of next week! (Um, no - not the whole building - although wouldn’t that be fun? We have one office space on the first floor.) I did mention that we had outgrown The Loopy Room here at home, right? We have been looking for a new space for awhile, and signed a lease a couple of weeks ago. Since then, they have been busily tearing down walls, painting, and adding new carpeting for us. Next week is Moving Week, so we’ll be packing up shelves and yarn, lock, stock and barrel, and moving it right over there. It’s a great space and just 5 blocks from our house, which is going to be wonderful. (Yes, I’ll be walking to work. Except when it’s hot. We all know how I feel about that.) We will keep you posted on new “Stop and Shop” hours for those of you in St. Louis. We’re hoping to have that a couple of times a week (and of course still by appointment.) While it’s always fun to have in-person visitors, our main focus will remain on keeping up with all of YOU, our wonderful online customers from all over. We want to continue to provide the service that you have come to expect from The Loopy Ewe and we feel we can do that best by continuing to make our online shop our priority. We take the responsibility of being your “Virtual LYS” very seriously!
Here’s the sign in the front of the building. I originally told them we didn’t need to put The Loopy Ewe up there, as there won’t be that many people trying to find us. But now I’m kinda thinking that it’d be funny to have our name up there with all of those real estate/title company/insurance names. Might lighten up the building a bit, you know?
What do you think?
So - for us this means more space, more help, and our house becomes a home again. What does it mean for you? More space (to bring in even more yarn lines, which we definitely have in the works), more help (which means that we can keep getting orders to you quickly - even your Sneak Up orders, fingers crossed.) and maybe I’ll have more knitting time in the evenings so that I can share more things on the blog. We’re excited about all of the pluses this will bring to us, and to you as well.
It does mean that we will need to take a pause in our order-processing so that we can get moved and set up for you again. We will leave the website open so that you can place your orders next week, but shipping will stop between Saturday the 13th and Saturday the 20th. All accumulated orders will begin shipping out on Monday, the 22nd. I’ll keep you posted on things via the blog during the week. Maybe it will go faster than we think. What I really need is for WH to take the whole week off from his work to help get us all set up ….. but that’s not going to happen. I do foresee many late nights next week, however. Wish us luck! (And get ready for all of our re-stocks and new lines to come pouring in.)

Oh congratulations on the new digs! I’m very glad to hear that it’s not far from home; I didn’t want you have have to drive an inch on 270 to get anywhere!
Hmm, maybe you need a bike?
Have fun during the move, and enjoy having the Loopy Room (House edition) back to yourselves.

Hey, hey! Up and coming, huh? Good for you, and us. I think you should absolutely put your name and Loopy on the sign. Delighted you had a good time in CO, however it is hard not to have a good time there. Just standing and looking is wonderful.

How exciting to have more room to work in - and so close to home too!! I just wish I was close enough to visit sometime! Too bad about Zoe not coming to work with you though. I also think you should put your name & Loopy on the sign - give the stuffed shirts something to smile about
Good Luck with the move!

Congratulations!! How very exciting for you guys! That stinks about the no pets clause, though…nothing’s more cozy than a wool shop with a kitty.
I’m so very happy for you, Sheri! I imagine this will make it easier to draw the line between work time and not work time, too.
Can’t wait to see what you have in store for us!!

That boring sign needs some cheering up with The Loopy Ewe added to it! How exciting to have more space- even though moving is no fun at all!
Is anyone going to notice if Zoe comes to work? Maybe you coluld dress her up so no one knows she’s a kitty
alyson said,

My LYS has a life-sized sheep from that mattress company out front of the shop - maybe you could just stick one of those on top of the sign. ;-P
Congrats on the new space! It’s nice to be able to reclaim your home, I’m sure!! (And you can sneak Zoe in, right??)

Congratulations on the new Loopy Room (and on getting back some of the space in your home)! You’re getting up into the big leagues now! I think that boring building sign would be much improved by having a picture of Loopy on it!
Too bad about the no pets clause—but honestly, is anyone going to check?

I am incredibly pleased for you. With all your sales, I figured that looking for more space was going on in the background–and it is really good to separate work from home (I should know; I worked from home for over a decade). I know it will add a lot of overhead, but it’s time for the business to move up in the world! And HOORAY for that!
I am glad you had a nice trip, too. I am enjoying various friends’ photos of Colorado this fall and trying not to pout that I don’t have vacations. But, I get to go to scenic Arlington, Texas for a high school band competition this week, so it will be like a mini retreat. My friend and I are bringing all our knitting and crocheting, assuming we will finish all our UFOs. Nice to be around optimists. Hmm, when did this comment turn into all about me??
Good luck with the move! Wish I could come up and help. I love to arrange yarn.

Ohmygoshthatissooocool!!! I think I’m just going to have to drive through St. Louis on my way home from seeing the family at Christmas! You definitely need a sign - something we could have our picture taken with. That’s a bummer about Zoe - they just don’t understand about cats and yarn shops….. you’ll just have to make them knitters!

CONGRATULATIONS!!! You really should put up a sign. Your business is just as good/real/important as all those other things. They probably don’t have a lot of people trying to find them either. Once you’re all done moving you should post pictures of the inside. I don’t know when I’ll be able to visit, but I like to imagine stopping by.
I’m so excited that you are growing this much, especially if it means more yarn for us!

Yup…that’s it…that’s the building I waved at on the way home from the Loopy Basement yesterday! I was sure that spot on the sign was reserved especially for Loopy! You MUST most definitely put him on the sign. It will be great for you to have so much more room in your shop…as well as more room again in your house. For those in other parts of the world…they have no idea how it looks with boxes piled on your porch, in your entry hall, in your basement, etc.etc.etc. I’ll bet WH will be glad to have his photo space back too!
I agree with Emily…I think you should get a bike. I can see you now…warm woolie socks on your feet with your bright red sheepy Birkenstocks, riding your bike with your chevron scarf blowing in the breeze behind you. You could get snow tires for the winter….hmmmmm?

Woo hoo! Excellent news! And put another vote in the sign column. Can’t you picture Loopy up there, lord of all he surveys? The proud, majestic animal on the Great Plains. I’m seriously loving it. And I’m so proud of you, too! It’s a big step, but if anyone can handle it, it’s you.
Now I just need to figure out how to occupy myself when you’re “closed” next week. *sob* (It’s not like I need to pay the doctor, the hairdresser, passport renewal fee, the electric bill, the gas bill, buy groceries…but somehow there’s always a spare $20 for a skein of something luscious. Why is that?)

Fantastic! Sorry about Zoe, however, I can understand the landlord’s position. Comes under the heading “we live in a litigious society.” If Mickey D’s can be sued by someone dumb enough to hold a cup of hot coffee between her thighs in the drive-through line, anyone can be sued for any perceived injury/allergy/whatever. We’ll all just have to find toys and goodies to send Zoe to keep her occupied during your absences. Oh, and Loopy absolutely must be on that sign. Now, if they’d just give you a sign like my spinning shop just got from her landlord…

We all want a Loopy sign with Loopy on it, it seems! While we think that a job around all that lovely yarn is fun, (and we know the yarn part is), there is so much other work that goes into what you’ve created. What a great expansion!! You have really been able to show that with the best service an online shop can ROCK! Best of luck, and leave some time for yourself and family, and I say smuggle Zoe in in your sock bag!

**throwing paper clips at curious co-workers peering over the wall wondering at the commotion in proofreading**
There is nothing like new space! Congratulations, and best of luck getting it all in order! And I, too, feel that Loopy should have his rightful place on that sign out front! In all his glory!
As for Zoe, you will notice that she will be VERY happy to see you when you get home! Although I do appreciate wanting to have her at work with you (I keep telling Paddy that he would love it here, but my bosses will not allow it as I can not convince them he’s a service cat), you will certainly appreciate the heavy purring that will ensue when you come in the door. (Or the scolding or whatever Game Zoe decides to come up with in response to being left at home.) Darn those lease clauses!

Congratulations! My husband and I have an insurance agency, and when we first started we worked out of the house (for 6 weeks, while the office space was being readied). The best thing that ever happene was our move to an office outside the house. It made home time really be home time and work time was at the office. It may have been very brief, but that time while we worked from home was much more stressful, because I never really was home or at work. And I do think you should put the name on the sign…you’re there, so flaunt it! Good luck with the move. We moved out office 18 motnhs ago and it was one of the best things we ever did. It helped us reinvigorate and reorganize, which we would have never done if we stayed in the “same old place”.

Congrats on the new location — it’s always good to separate home and work, I think. A sign would be good, but I can only speak as one who hopes to visit one day from out of town. A sign would lighten things up!
I can wait until you relocate before placing another order — my credit card needs a breather and I’m having “storage” issues anyway. ;o) Wish I could help you move…er…make that feel and sniff the yarn as I helped re-shelve it…tee hee.

I am so happy the business has grown so well–don’t “grow it” so much it becomes a big pain. Hey, I’ll bet one of the most excited people about your move is your local letter carrier. I certainly think the name would look cute, but you might end up with too much drop in traffic–people peering in the window when you didn’t have shop hours. And if they couldn’t get in after they got a look at all the yummy yarn, heaven only knows what could happen.

Congratulations on the new space — that’s exciting news! Please, please, PLEASE put Loopy on the sign — and make sure you get pics of the many admirers the new sign attracts!

Great news, Sheri. I’m sure Loopy is excited about getting his own space and I bet he would be proud to see his name on that sign! Good luck with the move and I hope you get lots of help. Lots of us would be willing to help carry yarn boxes and stock shelves if only we lived closer. I love the comment from your mom, btw.
Incidentally, it is now cold and raining here and I am cuddling up in two sweaters and wool socks at last. The perfect night to get the fireplace going, I say! Hope some of the cool weather is going down your way.

Congratulations!!!!!
And I put my vote in to put Loopy Ewe on the sign!! Just think about the people that -shudder- do not have internet… and do not know about ewe… LOL
Hey, and if you ever need an East Coast site… I’m totally here for ewe… I mean you!!

Way to go Sheri! I think it’s good to have that division between work and home, otherwise it’s just too easy to think “hey, a commercial? maybe I’ll go pack an order”, right??
Zoe would be an unusual cat indeed to want to leave the house, wouldn’t she? Maybe you can get yourself a little aquarium at the new place–my fish actually swim to the “feeding corner” of the tank when I walk into the bedroom. You’ve never had a weird sleep-in on the weekend until you open your eyes and see all the fish crammed into the corner WATCHING you and waiting for food. They really do have (tiny, wet) personalities and are acceptable in office buildings. And there are weekend feeders and automatic lights…no need to tend on the weekends.
Sharon said,

Maybe you could make a Loopy costume, put it on Zoe while she’s at the shop and explain that she’s Loopy, your mascot and she has to be there. We would know the truth, but they don’t have to.
Tracy said,

P.S. If you want help, you should just offer a “work for yarn” program during the move for local knitters! (or their SO’s who want the credit card to take a break lol)

Yipee!! A new Loopy Room! I’m not so sure about adding your name to the sign. You’d have to put in a fancy schmany security system to keep some of us yarn-addicted knitters away! It would be like a trip to Mecca or Lourdes…

[SCREAM!!!] I’m so happy for you, congrats on the new place. I’m so giddy, this means more stuff, (even though I’m saving it still makes me giddy). The sign….hmmm….I’d put it up there (but I’m mischievous) just to give me a laugh in the morning.
Hey, good thing I made my order early.

Great for you! It’s always nice to have your business in your home, but then, you never really leave it…..so now there may be a little more separation for you, in a good way! Of course we’ll love to see more pics of your knitting - they’re always so pretty! Congrats on a job well done! You’re moving on up (as if you haven’t been at the top all along)!

Congratulationson the new home for Loopy. Hope that everything goes well during the move. Of course with Loopy along it has to go well!! Best wishes next week as moving is a bit of a stress but just think how great it will be when all the wonderful yarn is in place in the new space. And yes I also think the sign would be great. I agree you have wonderful customer service and I really appreciate your online shop.

I think the space looks great but the no pets rule is bad, bad, bad. I could never rent a place to work without taking my magical goat with me. But other than that it is a great big wonderful step for you. Can you take Loopy with you?
Look forward to pics of all the wonderful yarn in their new home.

I think you should get a sign! Not only would it be funny to see Loppy there, it would be good for business! You never know when a knitting will happen by and see it ect. Also when people do stop in to shop, they can find it with help from the sign.
Congrats on the space! I am sure it will be great to have your house back.

Congratulations on Loopy’s new home! That is awesome! And, congratulations to you on getting your own home back to yourselves! That is really cool that you are so close to Loopy’s new home! Best wishes on your move.
I think most have missed the point on the sign. Loopy vacationed all over the world this summer, and he had his picture taken all over, with Loopy friends. It would be a total travesty not to have a likeness of Loopy and the business’s name on the sign! Therefore, Loopy must appear on the sign!!!

What wonderful news, Sheri! Wishing you the best in your new digs…there comes a point in business where you either have to grow, move up and out or stagnate and lag behind the field. You’re wise to see that…and take on the burden of extra overhead. It’ll pay off in the long run.
Sorry about the no-pet rule. Have you asked for an exception, since you would be bringing Zoe with you and taking her home each day? Sometimes you can make a special arrangement and adaption of the boiler plate lease…especially a very well-behaved quiet member of your family that wouldn’t annoy anyone in the building. You might make a convincing case.

Way cool for you Sheri that TLE has officially outgrown its original home. I’m excited for you. I think you should be TLE out on the front sign. You are a legit business but more than that it will be something fun to freak out passersby (maybe). hehe

Congrats, Sheri! Being a relative newcomer to TLE, it never occurred to me that you were operating out of your home!! I’m sure you’ll relish having the space back for yourself & your family, once you get through the move! And you should *definitely* have TLE name & Loopy on the sign! (By the way, what’s the deal on the spring retreat you’ve mentioned a few times - what does it entail, & any ideas when it might be?)

Good luck with the move - I wish I were there to help.

1. Put your name on the sign - it’s your place too, now, and it will liven it up a bit! Especially if there’s a big cute sheep with red socks on it.
2. I don’t think any of us will tell on you if you put Zoe in one of those pet carriers that look like purses and take her to work with you. We can keep secrets. ;o)
