Three Things on Wednesday
It has been awhile since we did a Three Things post, so here goes:
Three things you asked about or commented on in your blog comments on Monday:
1. “Are you and the Loopy Elves getting time off over the holidays?” Definitely! Pretty much everyone is working a half day or two so that we can get orders out, but no one is on a regular schedule or working normal hours. (And we know you’ll all completely understand if order shipping is a teeny bit slower than normal during this time. We do reserve the right to close shop during Spring Break, however, as it seems like most of us are going away that last week of March……..) And working here this week has been SO fun because you all keep sending us things! Today we had Venti Starbucks coffee all around, because some sweet St. Louis Loopy Friend anonymously send us a group Starbucks gift certificate (thank you!!), and we have been enjoying fudge, hand-dipped chocolates, cookies, Sees Lollipops and toffee, and chocolates from Switzerland. Does it get any better than this? You all are so wonderful. No wonder we love you so.
2. “My RAK this week was just a little thing.” There’s no such thing as a little RAK. Everything you do means something special to someone, and they all add up! Don’t ever feel “bad” of “guilty” posting a RAK. Everything is meaningful to the recipient. (Are you all reading some of these entries? Really, it’s just amazing.) Winner of this week’s Loopy Loot Gift Package for the RAK contest is Kristi in OH!
3. “Are you doing a lot of holiday knitting?” Um, no. Although I had great plans up until a month or so ago.
Three things I don’t want for Christmas:
1. A Chia Pet.
2. Any appliances (unless they’re red).
3. A full time housekeeper. (Oh, ok. That’s a lie. I’d take one.)
Three things about Loopy’s Spring Fling:
1. Signups definitely close on Friday morning, as we had more people than spots by Monday evening already. Maybe we need to do a Fall Fling, too. We’ll see how the Spring one goes, first. We’ll email everyone Friday afternoon after the Lottery. (I know, I know. Lottery. Bummer. We really will think about doing a Fall Fling for another group of you.)
2. It has been so fun seeing so many Loopy Regulars sign up, and now we just wish ALL of you could come. We’re really looking forward to meeting you!
3. No, Zoe and Gracie won’t be visiting Loopy Central when you’re here to shop, but they do appreciate the fact that so many of you would like to meet them in person. This notoriety is kind of going to their heads.
Three things I’m tired of this holiday season:
1. Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer.
2. People trying to be politically correct with “Happy Holidays”. Can we just say “Merry Christmas” and “Happy Hannukkah”?
3. Seeing “Write Christmas Letter” on my to-do list. FPS. I’m running out of time.
Three Six things that have arrived this week and will be up in our next Sneak Up (first week or so in January):
1. Roving by Sakina Needles
2. Casbah Sock yarn from Hand Maiden
3. Perchance to Knit Sock Yarn
4. Yarn Nerd Sock Yarn
5. Oceanwind Knits Sock Yarn
6. Hams Jams Bags
(and of course lots on order that will probably be in between now and then, too!)
Three fun things to end the post with:
1. Baby Monkey Socks and Monica’s Child-Sized Fingerless Mitts are finally up on the Free Patterns page.
2. Mountain Colors Bearfoot will be arriving here any day. I love this yarn! This is the one I hinted at a couple of weeks ago, where I said it was the yarn I used in my second ever pair of socks.
3. We have two cool new Loopy Ewe items for you in the next Sneak Up.
Anyone have three things to tell me?
Sheri goingtoknittonight.AfterIwriteourChristmasletterofcourse.

You know, Happy Holidays doesn’t bother me a bit:
1. I have so many friends from so many backgrounds and traditions, Merry Christmas and Happy Hannukah don’t even begin to cover all of it.
2. Wishing Happy Holidays represents love and tolerance and acceptance and embracing diversity to me. It’s wonderful, truly.
3. Blessed Solstice!
I wish the very best of the Season to you and everyone at The Loopy Ewe!

Just a quick one for now, so don’t have a 3 things - I’m about ready to head out to look at the National Christmas Tree - a cherished tradition with someone special in my life… So exciting about the response to the Loopy Spring Fling. I’ve already decided if I’m not a lucky recipient, I’m using the money to do a long weekend in Paris in the spring - now I’ve been there 3 times, but I want to return to Giverny to see Monet’s gardens in all its spring lovelieness! : )

Oh, a lottery! I do hope I get lucky. Although if I had to pick a lottery to get lucky in .. well, I could have a knitting retreat every day for the rest of my life if I won Powerball! So who is going to be picking out the winner’s names, and what sort of yarn does she like? Or will it be one of the cats .. I have some organic catnip right here … I’m not above bribery.
3 things I plan to do next year:
1 - VOTE
2 - Lose 20 lbs
3 - Learn to shoot a bow
3 things I might do if I don’t get into the Spring Fling:
1 - Road trip to Minnesota to visit a friend
2 - Take a vacation to Williamsburg, VA (I haven’t been there since I was a child)
3 - Visit my sister’s family, who should be preparing to move about that time. With 4 kids (3 of them under 6) I’m sure she’d like to see a friendly, grown-up face.

Merry Christmas! This is a RAK I am currently in the middle of… I teach Kindergarten special needs, and I have a very dear little guy who, every day comes to school in clothes that he has out grown maybe two years ago. His dad is disabled and his mom is working a full time job and going to school in order to earn an undergraduate degree. He is the last of three children and his neediness (real word?) breaks my heart. I give him plenty of hugs and attention, food and treats in school, but the clothes thing kills me. So… the other day I wrote the mother a note telling her that I was cleaning out my son’s clothes in order to get ready for new ones coming for Christmas, and I don’t have a child to hand them down to. Seeing that her son is younger than my son, would she be interested. Okay, so it was a little white lie, but this child needs clothes. Well, a few days later (today) the mom left me a lovely, heart breaking message on my phone at school telling me how wonderful of me to think of her son. She would gladly take ANY “hand-me-downs” I might have. She went on to tell me how hard this time of year is on her family and these clothes would be an answer to her prayers. This evening I am going shopping for this little guy. I plan on washing the clothes when I get home so they won’t smell new. Each of my children are giving up one gift in order to give more to this family. I don’t know how random this “giving” is, but I do believe it is an act of kindness that also works as a lesson for my family.
Once again,
Merry Christmas!

Three random things about my holiday- thus far:
1) I dropped a heavy bowl on my foot. (will go to urgent care tomorrow after my hubby is back from out of town:( ) Does this mean I don’t have to do anymore cleaning for company? Do you think I can get a prescription for a cleaning service- just this once?
2) I need to finish one pair of Twinkletoes (knitty.com little girls size should be do-able) and a cabeled beret in cream alpaca before Christmas Eve.
3) Someone really SHOULD clean out my refrigerator. (Or maybe just I’ll stuff it with food and you won’t be able to tell it’s dirty;)
bonus- this afternoon I loaded an elderly ladies groceries into her car. Sadly- I think I scared her a bit, at first, she looked like I had asked to mug her or something. As I am a non- threatenting 39 year old soccer mom, she soon got over it;)
Then, she was all chatty- very sweet. I was glad to have met her.
Then- I hugged her-(I do hug strangers when I feel the need;) and yes- I told her Merry Christmas;)

Three things about today….
1. I’m sick. My one year old son came down with a cold last week and now I have it. Ick!!
2. I finished my Christmas knitting today!!!! Whoopee!!!! Onward to knit stuff for me:)
3. Hubby is finished working for the year, which means we all get to hang out and watch Christmas movies and relax for a few days before heading to my family’s house in Maine.
Bonus…..my baby walked for the first time today!

3 Justifications for buying yarn:
1. It wasn’t there when people asked me what I wanted for Christmas so I KNOW I won’t be getting it for Christmas.
2. It is to help a friend in need- her stash de-hancement is my stash enhancement
3. It is a rare color/rare blend/rare dyer/new color/ new blend/ new dyer or I JUST NEED IT.

I’m with Tracy - I know so many people who are Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Pagan, agnostic, FSM, and several other things it’s impossible to know what’s appropriate for them. I’d rather not offend someone because my celebrations and beliefs don’t match up with theirs, but I’d like to express good wishes to them for whatever they might be celebrating now.
Or not, as the case may be.
Sheri, I hope you and yours have a Merry Christmas.

I’m a “Happy Holidays” person as well. I live in a very diverse community, and I want others to know that I wish them the joy of the holiday season, whether they’re celebrating anything or not. It’s still a lovely time of year.
And a very Merry Christmas to you and your family!

Merry Christmas Sheri!!!!
I know what you mean about appliances… however, I *am* asking for a floor steamer to clean our wood floors. I figure, the floor needs to be cleaned periodically, and having the steamer means I can clean the floor in minutes and then have more time to KNIT!!!!
My RAK, I sent a coupon organizer to our church organist. I noticed that hers was torn to shreds, so I sent it in the mail and on the return address wrote “from a friend”.
I am really impressed with Lori’s RAK. Clothes for the little boy in her K class. That is such a sweet story!

Thank you very much for choosing my name this week Sheri! I love your Santa with his very own spinning wheel. I just got my new wheel last Thursday. Louet S10 DT. It’s my second wheel and I just learned to spin learned to spin in October. My first one is a single treadle (Ashford Joy and with my back, I decided to get a double treadle.
My 3 things I’m grateful for:
1) I finished my Christmas knitting and homemade gifts last night.
2) I have Christmas Eve off from work and our sons are able to come for Christmas. One lives in Bloomington, IN and the other lives in Columbus, OH
3) Finding the Loopy Ewe
I think a Fall retreat would be great!
Merry Christmas everyone!

Three things I love about my job (which has been giving me a headache since August and I think I’ve actually never said anything nice about):
1. My co-teacher/mentor. He’s awesome, always willing to sit down and talk about our classes or give advice.
2. The people I share an office with. I look forward to having five free minutes just to chat every day!
3. Hearing from students that they loved my class this semester, or that they heard about some science thing in the news and wanted to share it with me.
Three things I love about the Christmas season:
1. Seeing my family.
2. Making presents for everyone. I think this is the first year I’m giving exclusively handmade gifts, although they are not all handmade by me and I have a short gift list.
3. Watching Christmas/holiday movies. My favorite is Elf. (SANTA! I know him!)

There are LOTS of holidays in the winter - Yule, Divali, Kwanzaa, Hanukkah, New Year’s, and Christmas. Everybody should feel included! With extra kisses in our Loopy packages is my suggestion
I discovered that if I have one Loopy kiss and one Loopy peppermint at the same time, I am in Loopy heaven.

4) I wished (yelled out the door) the UPS man a Merry Christmas yesterday when he delivered my Christmas turkey from my employer.

People look at you funny when you say Happy Solstice!, and I’ve got a goodly many agnostic and atheist friends who find themselves saying “Happy Secular Winter Holiday”. It may just seem like political correctness to those participating in the mainstream holidays, but “Happy Holidays” is a refuge of comfort for those of us who celebrate the season a little off the better-known track.
To you, Sheri, may your Christmas be bright and your New Year filled with promise.
And now, a better question - where do we send Christmas goodies we’re baking up for you and your elves?

My Three Things
1. A huge feeling of relief when my supervisor told me that I’m doing a good job
and to keep it up earlier today.
2 Getting some fantastic news that I’m going to be an “aunt”—a long time friend just
told me she’s expecting.
3. Remembering all of my blessings to help cheer me up when knowing that I’ll be

Three things I’m grateful for:
1. I didn’t lose power last week like so many others did.
2. I did get two days off at work because of the power issue. Yippee!
3. That other power companies sent their people to help the people of Oklahoma. Even though I wasn’t affected it makes me tear up thinking about it.
Three things I’m tired of:
1. The crowds at the stores. I avoid them.
2. I’m with you Sheri, I hear Happy Holidays and I cringe. I’ve even blogged about it!
3. Rude people.
MERRY CHRISTMAS TO EVERYONE!!

Three okay Four Things That make me Mad:
1. Stupid kids making threats in our school district.
2. Hearing about Britney Spears and her messed up family. Leave them alone already.
3.My daughters constantly singing songs from High School Musical
4. Waiting to get something I really want.
Three Things I am enjoying
1. Listening to Christmas music, I still haven’t heard Grandma Got Ran Over by a Reindeer Yet.
2. Working on my Autumn Loopy Sock Club sock, first one is done and about a 1/4 through the second one.
3. Having my Christmas shopping done.
Tracy said,

I honestly think my brain is too tired to coordinate three things for a list
Funny, I haven’t heard “Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer” ONCE this year (watch, it’ll happen driving home from work tonight). The one I am sick sick sick of is “Santa Baby.” Yuk.
If I ever get out to your neck of the woods I guess I’ll have to make special arrangements because I don’t think I could stand to make the trip and NOT meet the fur-children
One thing I am really happy about: as of last night, all my shopping and all my wrapping is done. We won’t talk about cards though - those will have to be New Year’s cards!

Three things I’m grateful for:
1) Having some young readers on my Christamas list who love to get books
2) Mailing out my Christmas gifts today
3) Having a good group of students this Fall
Anyone who is looking for a spare RAK…I spoke to a good friend last night, her mother is starting chemo today. They all will be spending Christmas together, but good thoughts/prayers/wishes for health and happiness for Mary Ann and her Mom would surely be an act of kindness.
Ronni said,
December 19, 2007 @ 7:49 pm
Three totally random things:
I figured there’d be more sign ups than people so my RAK for the week was to not sign up, thereby increasing the odds for someone else. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.
I believe I will manage to get all the presents I am knitting/making finished just prior to when they will be needed. But there’s still plenty of time for the universe to sabotage me and switch that around big time.
I don’t really mind “Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer” too much, but if I never hear Alvin and the Chipmunks again it will still be too soon. Unfortunately, with an 8 year old daughter I think I am doomed to not only several more days of them but probably their return next year as well. i draw the line at the Movie though. Hubby will have to do that one.

Funny, I was just thinking today about “Happy Holidays” being a PC issue, and how I hardly ever hear “Merry Christmas” anymore. So:
1: Merry Christmas!
2. Apparently children can subsist on nothing but iced cookies and milk;
3: Last Monday, a stranger walked up to my husband and handed him a $20 bill and said “Can I just give this to you?” and walked away. I wondered if she is one of your readers, or if the RAK goodness is spreading!

1. My special needs son always says, “Happy Merry Christmas”. (And he always says, “Mom want snow”, when he knows I really don’t want snow, but I would rather have snow than ice, anytime.)
But, since snow is forecast behind the rain, maybe it will still be white? And, I’m really tired of hearing “The Chipmunks Christmas Song” (All I Want for Christmas Is My Two Front Teeth), which seems to always be playing on the car radio when I am in the car.
2. By all rights, we should have a white White Christmas, for sure, except they are now forecasting drizzle, followed by rain Saturday night.
3. My College Guy finally gets home for Christmas this Friday. He had to work more days, because of audio problems with a major amp in the theater, where he is one of the sound managers. He has to go back on Jan 7th, if not sooner, though.
I am so glad that you are going to carry Mountain Colors!
Merry Christmas to you, Sheri, Web Guy, WH, KD, and all of the wonderful Loopy Elves! I am with you, on not Happy Holidays. I did that for a few years, but I am tired of hearing it.

just to put another spin on the “happy holidays” thing– i ALWAYS say happy holidays because i kind of feel like it encompasses everything– christmas, christmas eve, hannukah, new years eve. the whole package. i’m not a politically correct person by any means, but i just feel like it’s a good way to get it all into one thing.
(might help lessen the “UGH!” factor of hearing “Happy Holidays”)

Three things…
1. I love when it snows, but I hate having to go out in it for work or battling traffic.

3. I can’t believe it’s the end of 2007 already!
Vanessa said,

1. Tomorrow is my last day of work (with students, anyway) until after New Year’s. Whew!
2. I keep seeing FPS everywhere, but don’t know what it means. Fudgy Peanutbutter Snickerdoodles?
3. My children are driving me insane. I love them, but they are. I know, enjoy the days when they’re little, but still… sometimes I just feel like whining about it. And so instead of getting any Christmas knitting done (and my list of 10 gifts is now more like 2 or 3), I am instead patting a crying baby’s butt and peeling a three-year-old off the walls. Oh well!

Bearfoot, yummy yarn. I love their colors (and don’t like the word colorways!).
1. Christmas knitting is finished, but needs to be wrapped. (I was modest in my goals and have to admit I jettisoned some gifts from my list when fantasy met reality)
2. My daughter arrives in Massachusetts today from San Diego. We have many feet of snow on the ground and it’s supposed to snow again today. I hope she’ll get off the plane.
3. Merry Christmas, Happy Chanukah (although I’m not sure that is still going on?), and Happy Winter Solstice.

Here’s the thing about “happy holidays”, I celebrate more than one winter-time holiday, so it’s appropriate to wish me happy multiple holidays. I understand your point, of course, but I don’t understand how other folks can start ranting and raving about someone wishing them happiness, in whatever form they may celebrate.

I don’t have three things today but I had a RAK that I observed that I had to share. I was over at my boyfriend’s office the other evening before his holiday party and he had lots of shopping bags on his desk. He told me that one of the employees he comes in contact with had missed the deadline for Toys for Tots and when his VP heard about this, he went out and bought toys for the family. Sean and one of his managers were going to get to deliver the toys to the employee so they could have a holiday for the kids. I just thought that was so cool…and I got to tell the VP that at the party that evening. Definitely a “Year of a Million Dreams” at this vacation destination…

Three things we’ve been celebrating this week:
1. our anniversary
2. the dog’s birthday
3. my older boy’s birthday
Christmas is just the frosting on the cake! Oh, and the Italians get around the whole “Merry Christmas” - “Happy Holidays” dilemma by simply saying “Auguri” (”Best Wishes”). Covers everything.
You don’t want a Chia pet? Why ever not?

1. I have decided that when wishing someone a “holiday greeting” and it is just one person I stick with Merry Christmas because 80% of American’s and 95% of the people in my town celebrate Christmas so I have pretty good odds of getting it right ( I have never had anyone correct me). As for a group of people that look diverse (not related to each other). I would probably say happy holidays. My employer says happy holidays but I also think that is correct because of the diverse group of people I work with. It just makes sense, so I say do what you think is right for the situation.
2. I made Christmas cookies the other day and have been giving them out to all my neighbors and even the mail lady (cuz she needs love too)
3. I just need to get one more gift (a gas card for my Uncle cuz that is what he wanted)
Merry Christmas to you Sheri and all of the Elves. To everyone else Happy Holidays!

three things that made my day:
1. The dude who runs the digital press brought in his annual cookie trays. Gourmet cookies. I nearly kissed him.
2. Mountain Colors Bearfoot. : D
3. Chuckle, overheard at daughter’s preschool party:
Santa to HSH: So what do you want for Christmas?
HSH: Everything.

My very randon three things:
1. I’ve decided that I need take a week’s vacation before Christmas along with my week after Christmas.
2. I have no idea what I want to knit next year except socks which are a good thing but I’m feeling the urge for a little variety.
3. I received gift card to Barnes & Noble for an anonymous Santa. I really want Cat Bordhi’s new book but it’s not stocked at B&N.
BTW, Sheri, I hate to do this but would you please remove my name from the Spring Fling list. I have a work commitment that will be running that weeken. Unfortunately, I’m part of the committee and therefore, commited. Thank you!

Its -40 this morning in Fairbanks with ice fog and with winter solstice on the way, our day is only 3 hours long. This morning while walking into work, I tried to think of reasons to be positive. So, here are 3 of those random thoughts.
1. Its supposed to warm up to -25 tomorrow.
2. After solstice, we will start to slowly gain sunlight again.
3. The cold makes us more social. We still have to go to work and school and there’s nothing like meeting your friends at the local coffee shop when its -40 to swap cold weather horror stories. (for instance forgetting to plug-in your car and having your fluids freeze or at the least get too thick to move through the engine. Oops.)
4: Okay, I’ve added another. Christmas is on its way, I have all my knitting done and mailed, and all the packages have arrived at their destination. Have a great Christmas!

1) I’m with you, Sheri. The Happy Holidays thing goes too far; it especially bugs me when I hear a tv commercial say, “I was shopping for a gift for my mom for the holidays.” Doesn’t he know what holiday his mom celebrates? I celebrate Hanukkah; it’s over now and it doesn’t offend me one bit to hear “Merry Christmas.” If people say it to me, I just return the greeting. It’s the spirit and the good wishes that count, I think.
2) I’m about to do a gauge swatch on the Alpaca with a Twist Baby Twist I got from you. I haven’t been able to keep my hands off the skein, I love it so much. It had to wait, though, until I finished charity knitting; afghans for Afghans, last minute mittens for Soaring Eagle project, and then baby stuff for my husband’s co-worker’s new baby (young parents who need all the help they can get.)
3) I’m keeping my fingers and toes crossed for the Spring Fling drawing. When I saw that your dates fell on my birthday weekend, I thought that would be an awesome way to celebrate (shopping at the Loopy Ewe!) If I don’t get in, I’ll have to do a half-birthday in the fall, assuming there’s a Fall Fling.
All the best to you and yours, Sheri. You keep us knitters happy all year long.

Three things I love about Christmas:
1. Watching my kids (age 6 and 3) faces when they enter the living room on Christmas morning. The joy and wonder in their eyes is truly amazing.
2. The Loopy Ewe!
3. That (hopefully) there will be lots of yummy yarn under the tree for me from Santa (or my husband, it doesn’t matter who really! )*
* Sheri, are you sure that there is no way I can bribe you to tell me what I am getting???

Three things that have made me really happy so far this Christmas:
1. Having a CD player in my new car (got it in April) so I can listen to the Christmas CD that our Church Choir made. It’s really quite good, and while no one will ever mistake us for Christchurch Oxford conducted by Sir Christopher Hogwood, their first thought will NOT be, “Oh, it’s a Church choir!”
2. Watching Paddy try and get the ornaments off the tree. He likes the fuzzy ones, and will work on that as only a cat can do.
3. The remote control ‘59 VW Bug I got in our office grab bag at the holiday lunch today.

3 things:
1. Lori’s RAK made me cry.
2. I really want to start a drive in April “Kids are hungry in April too” — I love that the holidays bring out the giving in people, but as I see what my company’s adopt a familys (and we are big enough for 2) receive it both warms my heart and makes me sad, as I imagine the rest of their year is pretty bleak. Maybe a back to school drive for kids who can’t get new clothes? I don’t know. I am going to be thinking about it over the holidays.
3. I never seem to be ready for this time of year.

OK, I’ll admit it. Cleaning out a cabinet I ran across 6, yes 6, boxes of Kraft macaroni and cheese. Oh the shame!
