Late Night Owl or Early Bird & a CONTEST!
It always amazes me that so many of you are up late at night when I do a Sneak Up. I’m definitely a Late Night Owl and when I do a Sneak Up late, like I did last night, it’s fun to see how many of you are still up. (Of course for those of you overseas, it’s a whole different ballgame.) Sometimes being a Night Owl has its perks, and it was definitely time for a late night one. We hadn’t done one at that time in awhile. Last night we put up lots of fun stuff:
- Yarn Pirate Merino Tencel
- Lime & Violet Sasquatch Sock
- sKNITches Syncopation Striping
- Gypsy Knits BFL
- All Things Heather
- Great Adirondack Silky Sock
- J.Knits Superwash Me Sock
- Malabrigo Lace (about 20 colors – and about 25 more on the way!)
- ShibuiKnits
- Mrs. Kwitty’s Sock Sacks and Pocket Pals
- Lawre’s Laine BigBags
- Offhand Designs Bags
- Sock Blockers
- New Wendy Knits patterns
And everyone was very quick to find it. We’ll be working on all of your orders today! (Note – the sKNITches is sold out already. This was Sam’s last self-striping order for us, but she has promised that she’ll keep doing Loopy’s Red Striping Socks in the future! And of course we’ll continue to have her wonderful semi-solids and variegated yarns here.)
I had a fun trip down to Fort Lauderdale with Web Guy over the weekend. Amazingly (sadly) I didn’t finish my DC KAL sweater on the long car ride. I really can’t explain this. I am not a super fast knitter, but I think I knit along at a pretty good clip. I didn’t knit for the first few hours because we were talking and I was watching the scenery, but after that I was knitting pretty much the whole time. I’m still focused on being done by June 1st, though. Hopefully next Wednesday I’ll have a photo. Have you checked out all of the sweater photos that are rolling in from the KAL? It’s SO fun to see what everyone has done! Keep the photos coming. If you get yours into our photo gallery by June 1st, you will get the bonus. (Check back on the blog on June 1st – we’ll let you know what your reward is for completing it by June 1st.) We will continue to stock the DC Classy for you, and we also have a whole bunch of Malabrigo Worsted on order, because I think I need to knit a sweater out of that, too. We’ll start up another KAL this summer (not a sweater this time – it’s too hot to have a sweater sitting on your lap while you knit) – watch here for details in a couple of weeks. (Like the squirrel photo? Apparently you Floridians have very friendly squirrels. This guy looked like he was going to jump up on the railing to see us.)
Look where Loopy landed this week – Alaska! My Mum-in-Law took Knitting Daughter up there to visit Wonder Husband’s sister and her husband. (That would be KD’s aunt and uncle.) What a nice graduation gift, don’t you think? Loopy is having a marvelous time. I’m not sure he’s going to want to come back from there. We’re keeping our fingers crossed. I hope you have some fun plans for Loopy this summer. A few of you have already started turning in your photos with Loopy. (He has already met Lucy Neatby and now he wants to dye his fleece purple, FPS.) The postcards will continue to go out in orders until they run out. We’re only putting them in your first order after May 1st, but leave us an order note if you need another one in a later order. We had a lot of fun seeing where he went last summer, and we know you’ll rise to the challenge this summer as well.
This month’s contest is easy and follows along the question of Night Owl vs. Early Bird. Leave your answer in the comments and we’ll use the random number generator to pick a winner one week from today. Here’s the two part question: Are you a Night Owl or an Early Bird? And what would be your ideal time of day or night for a Sneak Up to go up? (Note – those of you who are regulars here, have kind of figured out that Sneak Ups normally happen in the earlier part of the week – M – W, but we do try to vary the times in order to catch everyone at their best time at one point or another.)

Totally an Early Bird here. Mmmm… My ideal time of day for a Sneak Up would be 5:45 a.m. Eastern time. Not very likely, eh?
Glad you had a nice trip with College Guy!

I am so definitely a night owl. I can never get myself to go to bed early, it’s like I hit a groove around 10pm. And I just love the feeling of quiet and stillness around when it’s really really late.
I won’t be placing any orders any time soon thanks to a seriously tightened budget, but I think my ideal sneakup time is either when I’m at work or later at night – 9 or 10pm. I’m usually at the computer during those times.

I’m a Night Owl who through various circumstances have been forced to become an Early Bird – it’s tough when you are getting up just about the same time your body really wanted to go to bed. Best sneak Up time for me is after 7 p.m. but before 10 p.m. – early to rise – early to bed. Thanks to you and the elves for all your hard work on our behalf.

I’m both. I used to have a rule about not knitting after 10:30 pm but now I’ve moved that to 11:30pm. And I wake up around 6am (to get my daughter on the bus in time). So does that qualify for both? As for the best Sneak Up time, I don’t check them at home too much (dial up), so during work hours is best for me! (though not so good on my bank account!)
Glad you had a nice time!

WHO-WHO-WHO-WHO-WHO-WHOOO! I’m a night owl although my roomie at Fling might not agree (I wasn’t taking my naps). I was awake and knitting when the really late night sneak up occurred. I’d already closed my browser because I didn’t expect one that late and it was really late in the East Coast. The ideal sneak up time for me after 9 pm eastern time.
Malabrigo worsted–hmmm–since I’ve ordered the Imogen pattern (thank you, goatlady), I think I’ll be having some of that. I was gonna use DIC but I think Malabrigo will be a nice change since I’ll have knitted 2 sweaters with it.
Little Loopy also met and posed for a picture with the lady from Misty Mountain Farm (sorry I can’t remember her name) while in the Virginia Blue Ridge.
Get busy knitting that KAL FPS!!!

I’m a night owl all the way… I would rather stay up late to get something done than have to get up early. I don’t really have an ideal time. I think it is so fun having the sneak ups at different times and keeping us all on our toes.

I’m more of a late-afternoon/early evening owl. I’m at my most energetic between the hours of 4:00-9:00 PM. I think my ideal sneak-up times are between 9-5 on Monday-Friday, since I’m guaranteed access to my email at those times! Otherwise, between 8-9:30 at night is pretty good too, that is the usual time I’m on my computer at home.

Alaska! How lucky. I love Alaska. Me, I’m an early bird. I can’t sleep past 8:30, and I’m usually in bed by 11. I love getting up early and getting things done. I don’t function well after the sun’s set– it feels too late to get anything started! I’ve never caught a sneak up, so I guess that might be my fault (=D), but maybe if one appeared around 7 am (EST), I’d hit it.

I am a night owl although right now I am having to work early. I would say a sneakup around eleven is okay with me. I now need to save my money since we have decided to go to DC in July. So Loopy is getting a trip! Wonder how helful my sons will be when I decide to take a picture!

I am most definitely a night owl. I think it comes from years of working night shift as an RN. I think it has messed me up for life. Unfortunately, I like my eight hours of sleep so it is hard for me to get up in the morning. I often get up, get the kids ready for school and then take a nice long nap. If I could sleep until 9 every morning I would be one happy person.
I like the surprise of the sneak ups. I feel fortunate if I am sitting at the computer when the alert comes in the email, but I tend to not get too upset if I miss it, because I know there will be a next time.
Linda said,

By nature I’m a night owl. If I’m not in bed by 10 pm, I’m up for awhile. However, due to work and a 3-year-old early bird, I’m often up by 5:30 am. Which would be ok if I got to take a nap. I never get to take a nap, so I’m often a bit tired.
I’d like sneak-ups during working hours, especially the noon hour.
Ali said,

Total early bird. I work 7am-2pm and miss the worst of the traffic in both directions, get a whole afternoon to myself every day (and spent a chunk of it vacuuming or doing other deathly responsible things like booking a plumber). This afternoon I’m going to be spinning some carbonised bamboo fibre while watching Doctor Who, I did all the responsible stuff yesterday!
So, ideal sneak up time for me would be about 5am St Louis time on a Monday. Perfect for a pick me up before I head into work.

Age has certainly changed things. I used to be a night owl, but now I’m done by 10:30 or 11. I wouldn’t say I’m a true early bird either, but I definitely get up earlier than I used to! It’s fun not knowing when a Sneak Up is going to happen. Let’s us practice our stalking skills!

Chirp, chirp! I’ve always been an early bird, but now that I have two cats, I’m at their mercy, and they want breakfast at around 6AM, if not a little earlier. So, my ideal Sneak Up time would be somewhere around 630AM EST, once I’ve had a chance to make some coffee and start enjoying it.

I am definitely an early bird and find myself up by at least 5:30 every weekday morning. I allow myself the luxury of sleeping in occasionally on the weekends, but the body clock really likes to fight that at times! Unfortunately, I also find myself being more and more of a night owl as well lately. Luckily, I can function pretty well on 5-6 hours of sleep on most days. Quiet time at my house is in the morning since hubby is a big time night owl from working the mid shift for so many years. I can get a ton of work done between 5AM and 12 noon! The ideal time for me for a sneak-up would be around 6AM on the day after payday!LOL I have my cart loaded up with goodies from last night’s sneak-up, but I will have to wait and get what is left in there next week after payday…Once a month paydays are the pits!
Glad you had a nice trip with CG to Florida…what a great time for some quality Mother/Son time! And yes, a graduation trip to Alaska for KD and Loopy sounds wonderful too! Oh, and the iris picture is beautiful as well…I have a huge collection of different colors of iris as they are my favorite flowers, but mine have bloomed and gone for this year except for the few that will bloom again in the fall…:(

Generally, I’d have to say that I’m an Early Bird, but sometimes I can adapt, if need be… But, truth be known, I’m really somewhere in the middle as the years have gone by – don’t like to get up too early and can’t really seem to stay up late. Best time for a sneak up? Hmm, honestly, I don’t have a preference. If I’m really coveting something, I adapt. hee, hee. : )

I use to be a nightowel, but since I’m ill, I have to go to bed a 6 :00 p.m. However,
I am up about 4:30 in the morning. But basically in my heart I was always a night
owl person. I use to love it when my family went to bed and I could sew (was
not knitting at the time) in the peace and quiet and do what I wanted to do. I also
use to dance until 2:00 A.M. and get up and work a 12 hour day. Maybe that’s
why I in the condition I’m in. However, I still would like to be a night person. I’m
glad you had a good time with CG. KD is probably having a wonderful time in

Both here. When I was younger and slightly foolish I worked for a group of rather brilliant aerospace folk who kept the most psychotic hours. Up at 4 or 5am and to bed around 1 or 2am. To work with them I had to keep their schedule since my cell phone would ring at all hours with them needing something done. That was almost a decade ago and I am up most mornings by 4:30 or 5am and go to bed around midnight. I am truly envious of people who can sleep for 8 hours or more.
I can’t wait for Malbrigo worsted!!!!
I hope CG enjoys Ft. Lauderdale. a Charburger from Char Hut is a must!! There use to be this amazing italian restaurant at sunrise and Pine Island called DiSalvo’s. If it’s still there the garlic rolls drenched in butter would be worth the trip.

Another night owl forced to live in a daytime world. Working 7-4, I’m usually in bed by 11, although some nights I’ll push it. I’m a Midday Wren — usually the wrens are busy at about the same time I am. I do my best work late morning, late afternoon, and early evening. The only thing that gets me up super early is an out-of-town trip or an agility trial (seems like most dog people are early birds). Best time for a Sneak Up? Late afternoon, when I check my computer one last time before leaving work for the day.

Sneak ups are just that – they sneak up. So if I miss one, oh well. I prefer them at night though (not too late, cuz I’m a Morning Owl). The only reason for that is so I don’t get caught buying Loopy stuff at work during the day – eek!

Definite Night Owl here. I am fighting to stay awake at my desk here, but come nine o’clock tonight I’ll be wide awake and rarin’ to go. I get up at six every workday morning so I try to be good and get to bed by eleven…but it’s usually closer to twelve. My husband is definitely an Early Bird and I’m sort of afraid that after we retire I’ll only see him as I’m getting up and he’s going to bed!
As for the sneak-ups…well, they tend to be damaging to my pocketbook, so I really should say what time would be the worst. But really, the best time might be a weekday at 7:30 EST. That way I’d be at work and ready to shop!

The ideal time for a sneakup for me would be between 7 and 8 pm east coast time. Dinner is over, and I get to relax for a little bit before bed time.

Hmm, not sure how to define myself. I work all night (midnightish to ten-ish, depending on day and workload) so I am usually asleep for a nap at 8 to 11 pm PST. A sneakup just before I left for work would be wonderful. Can’t catch those early morning ones as I am still at work with no computer access. How about noon PST? Has there been one at that time of day? I am still trying to catch Wollmeise! I am bound and determined I am going to touch a skein of that wondrous stuff someday even if I don’t get to own any!

As for sneak ups- Time wise, I really like when they’re after 10pm, that’s when both kids are in bed and I don’t have to stop watching for a sneak up to help them with whatever it is “this time”. Day wise, Any night that my husband is at work and can’t see me destroying my F-5 button, those are the nights I want a sneak up

I’d have to say both. I can get up before 6am and be fine or stay up until 2am. I try not to do both at the same time though! I like the day time sneakups, but since I’m not supposed to buy more yarn (for the sake of staying married) for a while, it’s probably best if the sneak ups happen when I’m not around.

These days, with the early sunrise, I am BOTH an early bird and a night owl; and it takes its toll! I can’t sleep beyond the sun, but once the kids get to bed (10 & 12, so they want to stay up later than I do often enough), sometimes I get a second wind and stay up later than I ought. But it’s so peaceful! Nobody needing me, I can be on the computer without competition, I can read and knit…
Work the next day, though, there’s the kicker.
Love waking up with the sun, though; and the light evenings!

I’m a freak – I am both a night owl and an early bird. My workday (from home) usually starts around 4AM, and I stay up until ~11PM.
This would not be doable except for the fact that I am a *very* accomplished afternoon napper. I can nap anywhere, under any circumstances. I just need a pillow (or enough yarn to squish into a rectangle shape), and a blankie!

I’m a night owl forced to be an early bird by the reality of having a school aged kidlet. You can tell I’m a night owl by the fact that I complain about having to wake up at 7 to start my day =)
Ideal Sneak-up time for me is around 9:00 PM on a weeknight – late enough that the kidlet is settled into bed and early enough that I haven’t abandoned the computer for the tv room.

I’m a night owl, but I wasn’t on the computer last night. FPS! I was attacked by horrible pollen and down with a runny nose. I usually get to bed at around midnight to 1am. If I go to bed earlier, I toss and turn all night long.
Best time for a sneak-up would be 11pm to midnight. That’s late enough that there aren’t any witnesses to my shopping.

My whole life I was a night owl, but now that I had my baby I find myself going to sleep at 9 or 10! So I would say I’m an early owl – hehehe. My best time for a sneakup, also thanks to motherhood, is around 7 am pacific time.

Oh, I’m geared more towards Night Owl, but I find myself still getting up at 6:05 a.m. every workday. (That “:05″ is my resistance to the early hour!)
Sneak ups are ideal on Mon-Tues, 9:30 am CST. I’m almost guaranteed to be at my work computer, and the Gmail notifier tells me I have an email before it appears!

Both. By nature, I’m a night owl, I don’t go to bed before 11 pm. However, I don’t have to fight for computer time in the morning. I get on the computer about 6:30 a.m. Best sneakup time is when there is LEAST traffic to your site – so, what time is that?? Other than that, I enjoy the surprise sneakups!

I used to be a night owl and worked 10 pm EST to 7 am EST and I loved it! But, now that I have a child (10 year old, not so much a child anymore), I just can’t stay up late!! Bummer! I used to be able to work all night, then go straight to school during the day until 2 pm in the afternoon without ever getting tired, forget that now! I can’t even keep my eyes open past 10 pm, much less work all night!

Could you be considered both? I tend towards Early Bird – two young’uns in school and my best hours tend to be up until lunchtime.
However, if I am up past 11p (Top Chef, CSI anyone?) then I seem to hit that second wind and want to start some other activities. Or shop online.

100% night owl here…. five years as a teacher couldn’t even tame that. I can’t even pretend to be a reasonable person before 10 am.
So my ideal sneak up time… 10 or 11 MST, which is 12 or 1 eastern.
Just when I’m getting going.

By personal habit I’m more of a night owl, though since I have to get up for work I don’t stay up much past 11:30, unless I’m stuck in a book or knitting. But I’m so not an early bird — I pick my clothes the night before to minimize thinking first thing in the morning.
.
As far as Sneak Ups, I’d prefer Monday through Thursday afternoons. I work M-Th and only use email when I’m at work. I spend enough time on the computer working that when I’m at home I don’t even have email. Plus I’d have to fight my husband and teenager for the computer . . . too much effort.
And I’m totally bummed about missing the sKNITches self-striping, because I’ve wanted it for a long time and it sounds like it’s gone forever

So if you post really late in Loopyland, it will be really early in Virginia. How’s that sound? hehe

You can find me seated in the glow of the monitor from 11 pm -12 am most nights so that would be a great time for a Sneak up!

I have become a night owl since I’ve become a knitter(about a yr ago). My kids are preschool age, and they get up early. I usually can’t knit until they go to sleep, and then I wind up staying up to all hours of the night.
I like that sneak ups are late at night. An early morning sneak up might be nice too.

I think an excellent sneak up time would be 6:00-6:30 a.m. central time.

I love the early sneak ups because they are convenient to check before I start work at 7:30. However it still doesn’t stop me from checking the site about 5 times a day!

I’m a night owl living in an early bird’s body. I used to love staying up late before I had kids. Now, if I stay up late, it never fails that one of the kids is up and wanting breakfast at 5am. Now that they sleep in occasionally, I’ve grown to enjoy that quiet moment of coffee+news+knitting that I catch every now and then. For me, a great sneakup time would be during the day while the kids are at school. Most other times my attention is taken by their needs.

My perfect sneakup time would be Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday morning at about 9 Central European time (GMT+1). Then I’m usually just back from leaving the big kids at school/daycare and the baby is sleeping in his pram. I make coffee, check my email and knit.

I check blogs and yarn things with the AM cups of coffee, and I can look at Loopy during my working nights. So anytime is a good time for a sneak up. I love surprises!

But still, I have to say that mornings (even those spent in bed) are a close second favorite part of my day. I’m mostly an afternoon girl. I was an early bird as a child but I’ve become a night person with the benefit of getting to sleep in. I knit best in the late hours. I would like to see sneakups around noon or midnight my time (5-6 hours difference than most of the Loopy Groupies) since I am here in Hawaii. I just seem to get a sense that it will be a Sneakup and then I am ready and keep looking and wait for my Mac to ding that “I’ve got Loopy mail” and I almost never miss an order with at least $75 in it. I am a lucky girl (now if my fingers would just move faster and I could decide on a pattern sooner). I like it when designers suggest five yarns that would work with the patterns (sometimes it does make a difference if there is an intricate pattern and the yarn is not a solid color to show off the pattern) – mainly I don’t know what patterns work best with the variegated yarns I seem to love to buy (I just love it when the colors change rapidly enough that I don’t get bored). But who can get bored when they are having so much fun. I love having Loopy with me in my container near my knitting chair. My five-year old dog loves seeing Loopy but has never tried to eat him or anything. Fortunately for both of us.

Whoo, Whoot, Hoot?!? I am biologically a Night Owl, forced by gainful employment to pretend to be a Lark. Sadly, in order to get up at 4am daily I have to go to bed Really early (FPS!!). I blame some middle weight gain to disruption of normal hormonal cycles. When I worked a job that let me go to bed at midnight and get up at 7am/8am, I lost 15 lbs without trying.

I’m definitely a night owl. I’m a teenager so I’m biologically wired to be a night owl, and it’s usually late at night by the time I’m free from all homework and responsibilities and have time to knit. From the business side of things, I think the ideal time for a Sneak up would be Tuesday or Thursday at about 4:15-4:30 pm. That’s when I’m usually online looking at yarn and checking my e-mail, and my defenses are still pretty low. Just to let you know

Definitely a Night Owl, and finally have a job where I can roll in between 9 and 10 and no one looks at me funny. Even though I’m usually up late, I’m often not near the computer and keep forgetting to check email on my phone, so the best time for me to catch a Sneak Up immediately is during the day when I’m chained to my computer. But considering my ever-growing stash, missing a few Sneak Ups is not such a bad thing

Denifitely a Night Owl – you do NOT want to meet me in the morning
As far as when is the best time to catch a sneak-up…unfortunately, it’s while I am at work. If I am on the phone with a long winded Tenant, I just pop on your website and do a quick check!

I would love to be a night owl, but unfortunately my work requires me to be up early so I am forced to be an early bird. I love the afternoon or early evening sneak ups because that is usually when I can be on the computer. The late night ones always pass me by until all the good stuff is gone.

I’m a lark. Such a lark. Most days I wake up by 5 a.m. without an alarm clock.
Once I’ve gotten my laptop to communicate with the Internet again, the perfect time for a Sneak Up would be about 4:30 a.m. EST any day Monday-Friday. I feel like I get such a lot done before 7 a.m.!

I’m more lark (early bird) than owl, although my bio-rhythms want to shift really badly in the summer here in the Northwest (very long days, short nights). The best sneak up times for me are normally during our workday because I’m on the computer then anyway. However, I have to say that I just sort of pass on the “competitive yarn shopping” these days. I have some regular lines that I like and I watch for “sneak up” notices on those to see if some of the sold out colorways have been restocked. But…as much as I ADORE the Wollmeise skein I got in the sock club, it’s just not worth it anymore to try scoring any of that in a sneak-up; I’m pretty convinced I have a better chance of getting a decent winning lottery ticket
Squirrels get past their fear of humans pretty fast once they recognize them as food sources! They can be pretty entertaining.

I’m a night owl who has had to become an Early Bird for my job….I would prefer to stay up late and read or knit, but I have to go to bed early so I can get up early for the commute…sight.
I like the sneak-ups that are after 6:30 pm MT during the week – I can’t check my personal e-mail at work since they have all those sites blocked in the firewall, so I don’t get a chance to check my mail and see the “heads up” until I get home.
On the venting side – now they have blocked ravelry so I can’t even visually fondle my yarn….darn it.

Oh that sneaky Loopy! I was hoping to be able to take him to Alaska! We’re waiting on news (a job for dh) to see if we’re moving there. It’s home for me.
Where did she get to visit?! My family lives in SE… tiny town. I love it of course.
Me… oh night owl FOR SURE. No matter what time I wake up, I don’t REALLY wake up until noon. My brain refuses to function fully until then. And it really wakes up after 9pm. Of course I married an early bird… which makes life interesting.
Ideal Sneak up… 2-3pm pacific time any weekday. IE – it’s naptime and I head to the computer for a little down time!

Would you believe BOTH! I’m up in the morning at 5:15 to go to the gym to workout in the pool…and I go to bed no earlier than 11:00 p.m, and often considerably later than that.
I missed the Sneak Up this week because I got taken to the ER on Sunday and had a cardiac catheterization with stent placement on Monday morning. Today was my first day back at the computer. All is well and I’m feeling better than I have in weeks. The cardiologist told my husband that “instead of blood running through my artery, the were walking single-file hand in hand.”
I would like to warn anyone reading that my symptoms of heart attack did not follow “chest pain”, per se. I first had a very hard clenching type pain in my right jaw (which is definitely strange because I have no feeling in that side of my face as it has been blocked because of trigeminal neuralgia)…followed by intense hot flash and nausea, and by the time I got to my bedroom, pain under my left armpit that radiated over my shoulders and a bit into my breast. At this my husband called 9-1-1 and I’m happy to report that two firetrucks arrived within 3 minutes, followed closely by an ambulance. I was stabilized at our local hospital and transferred over to U.C. Medical Center at midnight.
What brought it on: We had been laughing our way through The Full Monty. I must have gotten twitterpated at all those naked men. D’ya think? That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.

I’m a night owl. Ask anyone who knows me. I am counting the years until my daughter can reliably get herself off to school alone in the morning and I can go back to my natural rythyms. I’d never be able to work a shift job unless I never had to do the one that started early in the morning.
My ideal time for a sneak up is 10 seconds after I have loaded http://www.theloopyewe.com and 2 seconds before I click on What’s New. Otherwise, not Thursdays (because I have to spend too much time too far from a computer that day) and not next Tuesday (ditto) otherwise, I’m not that particular.
Loopy almost got to move to Norway with us for six months but apparently we aren’t going after all. Which I was bummed about until just now when I realized how much it would have cost me in international postage for my Loopy packages.

My ideal sneak-up time would probably be between 2 and 3pm EST because that’s my usual check-in on the computer time during the day. I tend to either spin, knit, or game if I’m on the computer during my late owlness. So I miss out. I’m definitely a night owl. I have to laugh when I see people staying up until 2:00 a.m. – that’s when I’m getting started! I’m up all nigh (literally) and don’t go to bed until around noon. Then I sleep until 4:00 or 5:00 p.m., get up, do what I need to do, and begin knitting. I work on the shop during the night – I get so much done when it’s dark and quiet. I always liked working night shift when I did work, so it’s natural for me. I just don’t like the sun (it interacts with a lot of my meds), so I’d much rather sleep, especially during the hot part of the day. When I lived in Sacramento, I got up around 10:00 a.m. and spent the day in the pool, but I still went to bed around 4:00 a.m. That’s why I hate Daylight Savings Time – we have enough sun as it is, IMHO.

Unfortunately, my job calls for me to work 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, so… I tend to have lights out by 11:00, though a little earlier is better. I’m up around 5:30 or 6:00 most days.
As for best time for a sneak up, well, I don’t suppose there’s really one BEST time. If I’m lucky, I’m on line and looking. Otherwise, well, I guess it’d have to be right after I’ve gotten paid on my extra paycheck week.

I’m an early bird. Mostly because the cats want to play and eat when it gets light. They are noisy and busy and if I ignore them, they annoy my husband and keep him from sleeping. Since he doesn’t sleep as well as I do all night, I hate to ruin his last hour or two of decent sleep by letting the cats annoy him (them being my cats and all). So, I, the well trained human, get up, feed them, make my coffee, and knit quietly for an hour or two. It’s my best time of day for knitting that requires concentration. This morning, however, I was determined to snag Wendy’s Costa Socsk pattern, so I checked in BEFORE my coffee and was delighted to see the new patterns. I’m not sure about best time of day for me – probably a Sneak Up around 8:30 to 9:00 am would be best. The only thing I’ve been disappointed about is not being able to get any Wollmeise so far.

I am absolutely a night owl by instinct; if I don’t have to be up by a certain time I will happily work on a knitting or stained glass project until I am bleary eyed in the wee hours of the morning. That said I very very much love and need my sleep so if I have to be somewhere (ie/ my full-time job) I must make sure I get my 8-9 hours in. Since sneak-ups happen during the first part of the week, it would be best for me to have them in the early evening when I am most likely to be at my home computer. It is very hard for me to be at work and watch as the skeins disappear before my eyes when I’m not in a position to sign in to the site and shop for them. I’ve never ever been disappointed with any of the orders I have placed regardless of the time the sneak-up has happened though! How can one be disappointed when there is sock yarn coming?!

I’m both a night owl and an early bird. Forced to be a night owl since I work the night shift here at the hospital…but when I’m off, I like to start my day by 8am.
You can put those sneak ups any time..night/day. My credit card is always close at hand so that I can “try” and get what I want. Glad I saved my Loopy credit..that Malagbrio worsted sounds perfect for a “Lucy” bag!

I’m an early bird. I’m up every morning before 6am to feed his highness the dog. Around my house, if it doesn’t get done in the morning, it doesn’t get done. The timing of this latest sneak up was perfect for me! Unfortunately I couldn’t take advantage of it, but please don’t let that discourage you from scheduling future sneak ups for that time slot!
As for being both an early bird and a night owl? I’ve got one word for you: Siesta. A little afternoon nap, if you can get away with it, does wonders.

I’m a night owl, through and through. To the point that I was thriving on a night shift (2-12) . . . the marriage to my early bird was suffering, so that had to go. Now my toddler is forcing the early bird issue, and I struggle through some days (especially those where I knit into the wee hours. . . oops!)
As far as sneakup times? i’m rarely around at the same time every day (see previous comment about the toddler lol), but evenings are usually family time, rather than computer time. . . So, noon-6
(West Coast time) Unless the aforementioned early bird is out of town, then late nights are perfect! (I was there last night . . .)

I am without a doubt a Night Owl. I love sneak ups that are after 10 pm. Most any day of the week is fine as I am usually up. Even if I HAVE to get up in the morning I am disfuntional until about 8:30 am. Sometimes actually 9am. I can stay up and work until 3 am though. I just love the quiet to sit and knit!! or read some times.

Early bird! I can log on at 7.30am AEST which is 14 hours ahead of you, so I guess that makes me a night owl in your neck of the woods.
I haven’t managed to snaffle up super specials yet at a sneak up but I shall keep trying. Have to find a way of making my eyes focus, can’t see anything without significant amount of coffee to fuel the brain.

An early bird married to a night owl here! I lived alone for a year before moving in with the now-hub, and discovered that my perfect sleeping pattern was 10pm-8am exactly, every night. Unfortunately his is more like midnight-11am! We have a lot of ‘discussions’ about this, especially since he has to be up for work by 7am at the latest…
Sneak-ups work whenever, really. I’m in the UK, so anything not between midnight and 7amGMT would be best, but I don’t have much yarn money right now, so I only ever browse!

Definitely an early bird! I like to get up at about 4am, sip my morning coffee and so a little knitting & blogging before my little monsters get up. There’s nothing like sitting on our deck, listening to the birds first thing in the morning, as the sun comes up over the Blue Ridge Mountains
This is also when I shop (hint, hint)

Night Owl! I’ve hated mornings my whole life and I’m continually running late in the morning. I have trouble going to bed too, not falling asleep, but I always aim for 11 and then I look over and suddenly it’s 1am and I’m still not tired. Thank god my work is flexible about hours, I could never do a job where I had to be up early every day. I’d love to have a sneak-up around 10 or 11pm EST, I’ve never caught one yet!

I’m totally and Early Bird. I run out of gas around 9 pm. I don’t think I’ve ever been awake for a Sneak Up. My ideal time would be around 10 am. That way the only thing I’d waste would be time at work browsing through all the new goodies.

I’m an early bird by force! My little chihuahuas have small bladders and usually are up by six. Although it’s more true that I’m not really awake until I’m filled up with coffee and showered.
The perfect sneak up time for me is probally 8:00am. I’m awake AND alert. Mostly that’s the best time to really look through all the fun new things ’cause the kids are all gone to school and my time is my own!
I LOVE THE LOOPY EWE!

I started out life as a total Night Owl. It would drive my parents nuts – because of course I would sleep late into the day – noonish seemed right. Now, whether I like it or not (and generally I do) I’m up early, sneaking in some knitting time before it gets noisy, and to watch the world wake up. It really is the best time of day. Don’t tell my mom I said that…
I think a good Sneak Up time would be around 5:30 CDT. Enough time to look it all over (or not) and get the ordering done before anything else, and still time to sip my coffee and watch the sun rise over the city…

I’m mostly a night owl, though I have lofty aspirations of early bird-ness. I don’t know when the best time for a sneak-up would be, though…during the summer, when I don’t have to get up quite as early, I suppose late night would be good, like 10 or so. During the school year, I get up early to make lunch for my husband (he’s a student, soon to be a teacher), so 6:30 would be ideal then. Either way, I check The Loopy Ewe far more often than is sane anyhow, so I’m a happy camper with whenever y’all decide to do it.
I will say that I do like the way you guys change it around from time to time, so that more people are likely to hit one or another.

Night owl – definitely. Before bed, I love to lie in my bed and surf the internet (which, for me, is mainly knitting related), and stay up later than I should. But, I’m relaxing at least. 11-midnight for times I guess …. but then, when I have bought something in a sneak up, it got me excited, which would make it hard to fall asleep after!

I used to be such a night owl, but the older I get, the more of an early bird I become. (Has anyone else noticed that happening to them?) I find that on weekends when I am able to sleep in, I just can’t seem to stay in bed much past 6:30 or 7:00. And, of course, once I start thinking about a nice cup of coffee, that does it. So, as much as I hate to admit it, I guess my perfect sneak-up time would be 6:30 a.m. eastern time.
Welcome to Florida, College Guy. We’re glad to have you here! Oh, and Sheri, if you really like our squirrels, I have a few dozen in my yard that I’d be happy to send your way. The little buggers are eating me out of house and home…birdseed-wise, I mean.

I actually start getting going around 10:30pm and have figured out this must be related to kids, laundry and not having to talk with anyone the next day…only my kidlings. I always get up with them at 6:30am and make lunches (always have, always will) and have stayed up doing the things that need to be done. I tend to start dieing around 3pm, but it passes….and coffee doesn’t seem to do anything for it (a nap, you say? that would be ideal….a little 20 minute thingy).

I like switching it around – giving everyone a chance. I’m neither a night owl or an early bird when it comes to getting computer time. If I’m lucky to have time on my break or lunch at work or kick one of my kids or husband off the computer at home that’s when I get a chance to check out what’s new.

I’m definitely an Early Bird. I’m up at 4am. Good time for me would be 4:30 to 5:30 am. I do have my computer on all day at work so I try to never turn it on when i get home. That’s my knitting time and I’m usually in bed by 9 pm.

I am a night owl by nature, but an early bird by my children’s nature. I often have to send them back to bed because it’s not six yet.
Though I must say I love being up early, before anyone else is awake. It’s so peaceful and everything seems fresh.

I go to bed at 11:30 – 11:40pm and up at 5:15am. So I think I’m both. When I can sleep in on the weekends, I find myself waking early :/ However, I too find the early time peaceful. Several times I’ve just turned off my iPhone at 11:40pm to find the sneak-up happened minutes later….darn. I’m going to have to go to bed a little later.

I’m definitely an early bird, but don’t usually get on the computer before 7am. So, 7am Central time would be ideal for me. Although, since I’m not an “official” groupie just yet, I spend a lot of time going to the Loopy Ewe site and “refreshing” to make sure I don’t miss something new.

I’m an early bird….I go to work early (6am) many days so I get up at 4:30. I usually check Ravelry before I go to work, and the sneak-ups are always posted on the Loopy Ewe board….so that time of day would be perfect for a sneak-up!

By nature I would be an early bird but with 3 lovely children between 3 and 9 and a wonderful DH, late at night is the only time I have strictly to myself. (And everyone needs some “me” time.
So I guess now I’m a night owl.

This is a toughy! I like being both, which makes for weird days. The quiet in the house after everyone is in bed is a good time for “me time”, do my best knitting and other crafting, so I go to bed late. I also get up early 5:30 for work. Weekends I LOVE getting up early, have coffee in the back yard with my dear fiance. If he’s working out of town, I still go out back with my knitting. Ok, guess I’m both! The ideal time for a sneak up for me would be about 8am, when I’m at work and on the computer!!!

I am a night owl. 10 years of tending bar thru my twenties did it to me. The kids go to bed, the husband as well, the news is over….so maybe a sneak up @ 12 a.m. EST.
Then my husband wouldn’t be looking over my shoulder saying what are you buying NOW?

I’m most definitely a night owl. However, since I’m on the computer all the time at work, I rarely go online when I’m at home at night during the week. I’m too busy knitting and watching TV at that time. So the best Sneak Up time for me is 9:00 am. M-F. When I get to work, that’s about the time I’m checking my home email where I get my Loopy Groupie Head’s Up. Plus, like the post before mine, the DH can’t suspect a thing.

BTW, my friend & her husband left for a 2 week trip to Alaska last Monday. I’m on kitty duty. I’ve been uploading pics of their Maine Coon Cats to my Flickr & they check them out at the end of their day of sight seeing.

I replied going to bed, and she said, “Wow, early.” This was at 2 in the morning. Insomnia is vicious.

I am *such* an early bird. I wake up at 6am without an alarm (though funnily enough, I don’t tend to knit in the mornings. Mornings are my thinking/research/school time). Definitely not a night owl, as I’m usually in bed by 10pm, so Sneak Ups that are late at night aren’t so great for me (except for how they are, because they keep me from buying too much if everyone’s taken care of it all for me!).

I’m an early bird. I love drinking my coffee and reading the paper as the sun starts to come up. I also get a lot of my cleaning done then before I leave for school. A day with middle school kids wears me out, so I go to bed early.
An ideal Sneak up time for me would be 5 – 5:30 a.m. CST. I’m on checking blogs, Ravelry, etc.

I’m a Night Owl, which makes days interesting since I married an Early Bird. I now tend to be awake on both ends of the day and a Napping Nightingale in the mid-afternoon, if I can get away with it.
The ideal time for a sneakup is after 8 PM eastern, when I can flash colors at my husband and ask opinions once in a while. Although if you do them during the workday, I can sneak some yarn, too.

Totally a Night Owl – it’s the only way I get any knitting time after my son has gone to bed! My ideal Sneak Up would not be at 7:30am Pacific time like the last Wollmeise order, that’s for sure. For me, four or five in the afternoon, when my day is dragging and I could use something fun to look at and drool over as a distraction for a couple minutes.

So, it has been killing me that I have to be up at 5:30 every morning this week and next week too. I missed the last sneak up because I forced myself to go to bed early. I WISH I could be a morning person… there are so many morning-y things I’d like to do when the morning is still peaceful and stuff, but it is always such an ordeal to drag myself out of bed every morning! My ideal sneakup time is probably around 11pm… I caught the last sneakup right when it happened… unfortunately I was stupid enough to think the sKNITches would still be there in the morning, so I missed out! I don’t always require a lot of sleep, and I like to get the most productivity out of my day (and my knitting time) as possible. It just seems like times flies by so fast that before you now it, it is way past that reasonable time when I should have went to bed….usually before I do that though i get a little web browsing in.

Well, I’m definitely a night owl. Mornings? Ugh!
As for Sneak Ups, it doesn’t really matter to me. I shop when I have the funds to spend and a project in mind. Yep, I miss out on some great stuff this way and have to wait a while, but that’s okay.
IF I had money to burn, though, I would definitely say a morning Sneak Up would work for me. I check my email at work first thing when I get in, and checking my personal email is part of that. So, around 9:30 am EST would work great.
I do agree with changing them around to give everyone a chance, though.
Thanks for asking!

Is it possible to be a little bit of both? During the warm weather months or when daylight savings time starts, I get up early. I get less sleep as I go to bed late because the day is not long enough. I have been known to fall asleep around 9:30 only to wake up from my nap at 12:00! Kinda crazy huh?
As for the sneakups, not during communting time for those of us that work, and not during prime homework time when the kids need the computer for homework. That leaves the nightowl sneakups as the best ,followed by early afternoon for those that have computer access at the place that lets us earn money to buy more yarn!

I like to think that I am a night owl, and do stay up sometimes when the DH and the DS go to bed. I can sit in the front of the truck and knit or be on the computer, although DH does wake anup and tell me to come to bed. It’s kind of hard to be a night owl when you are always in the same space as the rest of your family. I do have to get up early alot because DH almost always needs help with directions or what ever.

I am certainly a night owl, but wanting to knit and be on the computer to get emails is an easy choice. If I truly want to get wips done. I can not be typing. But the other problem is that I work with a lot of German groups and that means Night Owl.
I try to set aside two hours a day for the typing. It would be in mid afternoon – so that is the best time for me to catch the sneak up. Today was ideal for me – but I think doing what fits your schedule is good.
I physically am limited in sitting at the computer. I have had 8 heart surgeries and my legs swell even prevently my from flying. So its feet up and knit!
