We’ve Got the Spirit … and a CONTEST!
“We’ve got the spirit, yes we do, we’ve got the spirit, how ’bout you?” Remember that cheer from your school days? (Do they still do that one?) It went back and forth from one team to the other team and eventually degenerated into both sides chanting “we’ve got more, we’ve got more”. Well, we have Team Spirit around here, too. We have teamed up with Lorna’s Laces to bring you an exclusive line of Team Spirit colorways, for all of your favorite teams – professional teams, little league teams, high school teams, college teams, etc. So many of you have loved our Loopy Ewe red/white colorway (and we keep having to order more), that it got the wheels turning. We’ll start with team colors for the two baseball teams that reach the World Series (and Lorna’s Laces promises to have it to us within days of finding out which two teams will go), and then we’ll add in many other team colors. Here’s your job – leave your suggestions for YOUR favorite team colors in the blog comments. We’ll take suggestions until next Friday, October 10th, and then we’ll randomly draw a winner from all of the comments for a Loopy Ewe gift certificate. Then, we’ll go through and get the most popular two-color combinations into production and have them here asap. Just think of all the people who would love socks/scarves/hats out of their favorite team colors!
Speaking of socks, we have more yarn barreling down on us by the case-full. Yay! Here’s a sock that I knit up using Sereknity (I knit it this summer while on vacation, but I forgot to share it with you when we received our first order of Sereknity and put it up. It knit up very quickly, making me think that’d I’d do the matching sock right away. But … I haven’t yet. Seemed like I had plenty of time to get it done before sock-wearing weather came back to St. Louis this fall.) I love the yarn base and also thought it was fun the way the stripes swirled up around the ankle. The colorway is Cowgirl and we do still have a few skeins of that in stock. There are actually quite a few colors of Heather’s yarn that I love. (It really IS a problem to be surrounded by all of this beautiful yarn, day in and day out, but I know that I will garner no sympathy from any of you.)
Next week’s Sneak Up – fun stuff. We’ll have: Noni Patterns (felted and children’s clothes), Fleece Artist Casbah, Beanie Baggies (including a new red/white one), Creatively Dyed Roving and Luxury Sock, Sanguine Gryphon Silk/Merino Roving, Gales Art Black BFL Roving, Lawre’s Laine bags (new fabrics), Lorna’s Laces Supersock and Roving in Amy’s Vintage Office (the Amy-blend yarn base will be here shortly), Sanguine Gryphon Eidos, Chewy Spaghetti, Scarlet Fleece, and another exclusive colorway from Dream in Color – “Don’t Be Blue” in the Classy weight. (We said we’d keep that colorway in Smooshy exclusive to the Don’t Be Blue Kit people, which we will, but we thought you might like it in Classy for scarves and sweaters. It’s gorgeous!) And coming the week after that (so far) – roving from Zen String and more Harry Potter yarn from Opal. They’re shipping it to us today.
For your chocolate fix this weekend:
“5 Minutes to Chocolate”
4 Tbl. flour
4 Tbl. sugar
2 Tbl. baking cocoa
1 egg
3 Tbl. milk
3 Tbl. oil
3 Tbl. chocolate chips
dash of vanilla
Add dry ingredients to your favorite large coffee mug and mix well. Add in egg and mix thoroughly, then add in milk and oil and mix well. Add chocolate chips and vanilla.
Bake at 3 minutes in the microwave. (The cake may rise up above your mug, but it will back down as it cools. The blue Loopy Ewe mug – from our Second Anniversary Kit – will allow just enough room on top to add a scoop of ice cream. You know, if you were so inclined.)
Don’t forget to leave us a comment with your favorite team color combinations. We’re looking forward to getting started on that for you!

About the cheer- it’s so funny you wrote that! My daughter is 7 and last week started her first year of cheerleading. We had our first game this week. At one point I wasn’t paying attention when all of a sudden I heard, “We’ve got more” back and forth between the two squads. It cracked me up because I had never seen that before or even heard of it. And then here you are asking if they still do it. Well, Yes. Yes they do. The girls did it several more times and they started out with “We’ve got the spirit, yes we do, we’ve got the spirit, how ’bout you?” working into “We’ve got more!” And let me tell you, the little 7 and 8 yr old might not be able to scream as loud as a teenager, but damn they can scream with a much higher pitch

Can’t wait to see what you & Lorna’s Laces produce! People love their sports teams…this is a great idea!

I would say “black and gold” but LL’s “Bee Stripe” already covers that base.
Since Lauren S was so snarky with her demand for a colorway in honor of USC, I will refrain from mentioning what I prefer to use for that acronym and politely ask for a Blue and Gold colorway in honor of UCLA (kind of an air force blue and old gold … think Cascade 220 in 9487 Puget Sound and 8412 Pear). Home to a record 103 NCAA Championships. Go Bruins.
And have a wonderful weekend!

I’m also rather fond of UConn Blue and White.
For my Da’s memory, I’d have to second the University of Kentucky colorway (which is not the same blue as UConn, by the way).
And I’m very fond of Cub’s blue and red.
And my high school colors, Glenbard West, which are green and white (somewhere between kelley green and forest green).
And how about the Chicago Skye’s baby blue and gold? Yay, women’s professional sports!

Royal blue and white were the colors for both my MA and PhD schools, so I’m a bit partial to them. However, I’d love to see a crimson/gray colorway for the Washington State University Cougars and purple/gold for the University of Washington Huskies. That way, I could knit one sock in each colorway and wear them during the Apple Cup, the big cross-state rivalry I grew up with — Mom was a Cougar, Dad’s a Husky, I was so glad when I could say, “Go, Loggers!” (University of Puget Sound, maroon and white).

Well I scanned thru quickly and did not see any NASCAR team colors. There have got to be more loopy nascar fans than just me!
I would pick Black and yellow/gold for the #17 Dewalt Ford Fusion that my favorite driver Matt Kenseth drives!
Little loopy went to the track this year with me and we enjoyed knitting while watching the race. I also always knit when watching the race at home and would love to have some of my drivers colors to knit with while watching!

As for teams, I have to vote for the Chargers (as long as they keep Philip Rivers). As a bonus for me, that would cover my high school way back when. And you’ve already got the red and white, but if you go with red, white, and black you cover NCSU and the Carolina Hurricanes. I make it easy.

Well, I already have green, gold and white, for the Green Bay Packers, which I picked up in Toe Jamz from Happy Hands Hand Dyed Fiber – at Wisconsin Sheep and Wool last month. I think they sold out, but I bought enough for two pairs of socks, so I obviously thought it was a brilliant idea. And the Wisconsin Badgers are red and white, so I could go with the Loopy Ewe colors on that one. I’m not really sure what the Milwaukee Brewer colors are at the moment – I know blue is involved – when they went to the Series in 1982, I think they were blue and gold. I’ll vote for blue and gold, since that would cover our high school colors here in Johnson Creek, too – and our son is in junior high right now, so maybe he would want blue and gold socks. I don’t have a good answer to your question. There are a number of teams that I hope will win various games, but I’m not into it enough that I am crazy for their colors just because they happen to go with those teams, so my answer has to be that I don’t have a favorite team color combo, sorry!
On your weather, you could send some our way! The high temp here has been in the low 50′s of late, and we had a freeze overnight last night. We had a colder than normal summer, so most people around here are not ready for the coming winter. We would love to see 80 again!

I’d have to go with the Patriots / Red Sox colors (they’re mostly the same, really!), because they also double as the New England Revolution! I always figured that the best thing for sports socks would be buying two (or more if needed) colors of yarn and doing a few stripes on top with a plain body and contrasting heels and toes. Works a little better for the teams that only have two colors, and not so bad with three, but sounds like it would be unwieldy for any team that might actually have 4 colors.
What I’d really love to see even if it is “too late” for this latest one would be Olympic socks with the colors of the rings!

Pretty socks or should i say sock? Did you get a pair or only one knit this time? WHich ever way a lucky foot will like that color.
Well we have to get school colors. My daughters high school colors are blue and gold and the team are called the mustangs the school is Little Wound High School. My tribal college doesn’t really have a school color unless you want to put the colors from their emblem as it which are blue, black, red yellow and white. But my university is kinda easy it is Black Hills State University the colors are green and yellow and our team is the yellow jackets.
It will be fun to see what everyone comes up with. I admit i went straight to the bottom to post and didnt read all 300+ posts first.

Not only because I am an avid Pittsburgh fan but also because it is one of the most popular professional sports teams in the country. Someone above mentioned that LL already has black and gold (the Bumble bee colorway). However, I have to argue that it is really more black and orange, expecially when knit and would suit the bengals more than the steeler’s.

Michigan State: Green and White
Michigan: Maize and Blue
Our School Colors: Navy and white
Morehead College (ky) which I think is blue and white. ( It is for a friend who went there. I am not sure.)
(One little wishie poo is for the colors to also be available in worsted weight . NOt all of us are that patient to knit with sock yarn for other projects.)
Frankly, if you could come up with a color way for each collegiate division ( Big Ten colors one year. Pac Ten the next..and so on and make each year a limited edition thingie.) you will guarantee yourself a faithful fanbase ( that is even more fanatic about yarn if that is even possible.) and job security.

A contest and chocolate – life is good! As for colourways, my daughter’s elementary school uses blue (not navy, but a nice solid medium blue) and silver (often represented as silver gray); they call themselves the Ambrose Lightning. My oldest son is at the University of Chicago, whose team is called the Maroons – the colors are officially maroon and white (chosen at the time because none of the other schools were using maroon back in 1894). My high school age daughter goes to a school whose colors are red and black. I also have a son in middle school; I imagine they have school colors but I don’t know what they are! You already have my college alma mater covered (Cornell – red and white). I hope someone votes for someplace whose colors include purple or teal, since those are my favorite colors whether they belong to a team or not!

I have to go for three-colour combos: LA Kings (dark purple, black, and silver) and Ireland (green, white, and orange). The former because I think I could get the Mr. to wear violently coloured things if they were in Kings colours, the latter because I want to make Ireland socks for myself for watching Euro/World Cup qualifiers…and I’m too lazy to find solids and stripe them myself.
My own team affiliation would be either black and white (Newcastle United) or blue and red (Atlanta Braves).
It might be impossible to please everyone here, but since so many colour combinations are recycled for various teams you might end up pleasing a whole lot of people! Thanks again for all you do, TLE is still my favourite yarn source.

Our colors are blue and white.
(The perfect yarn would be half white and half blue, but of two different blues – thin dark blue stripes surrounding wider azureblue, skyblue field… about 1/2 white, 1/8 dark blue (not marine, more like navy, clear, dark blue), 1/4 skyblue, 1/8 dark blue.

How fun, Sheri! You’ve got the whole blog rockin’ with spirit. I loved my high school red and white then and I love it now and that’s covered. Univ of Virginia orange and blue was never all that palatable, so let’s just forget that one. For the men in my family: My bil is a BIG Tampa Bay Bucs fan, and finding anything remotely resembling their burnt orange and black colorway is nigh impossible. My husband lives and dies (i.e., dies) every year with the Oakland As–so green and gold and white would make him a nice knitted shroud. We got the spirit!

I echo the singular request made by Dana, Gen, Crystal, Tammy, and Monet for The University of Tennessee Orange and White. There are thousands of Tennessee fans scattered across the country, not to mention the 107,000 in the stadium on Saturdays, who would kill to be able to find our unique shade of orange (think cantaloupe or mango – a yellow orange) in a sock (or any other weight) yarn.
While the Vols are hugely popular, I can’t forget the Lady Vols, reigning NCAA basketball champions (yeah Candace Parker!!!). The Lady Vols colors add a light sky blue to the orange and white.
From one who has been bleeding orange for 40+ years… Go Vols!!! Go Lady Vols!!!
