Knitting Along with Loopy
It’s January, which means another Challenge or Knit-A-Long! (Not that these Big Guys are knitting. Rather, they seem to be stirring up trouble here at Loopy Central at the moment.) I had something in mind for this quarter, but in the meantime, Anne in MD started a Clapotis Knit-A-Long on the Loopy Groupie board on Ravelry. There are so many of you working on that (myself included!) that I think it’s wise not to muddy up the waters and add yet another one. So – jump in and join us! It started January 1st and you will find the pattern for free on Knitty.com (here’s the Clapotis link by the brilliant Kate Gilbert). I’m making mine out of some Hand Maiden Sea Silk that I had in my stash. (Well, technically it was in my stash because I frogged the project I had started with it. Twice.) This is the first time I’ve done a Clapotis and I’m having a lot of fun with it. There’s something refreshing about purposely dropping stitches and watching them unravel.
Now I really want to make another one out of Amy’s Vintage Office. It’s on my new list. So leave a comment below if you’re participating in this KAL with us. The fun thing about the Clapotis is that you can use any yarn that strikes your fancy. Different weights and materials will render different sizes and draping, but it’s all fun. If you’re on Ravelry, check out the Clapotis link to see what others have used and how it looks. I’m not sure when it ends on the Loopy Groupie board, but we’ll leave it open here for the first quarter, meaning you should finish by 3/31 and have your photos posted by 4/15. (Here’s a tip from Sandy in WY that I thought was great. She added a stitchmarker to the very bottom starting point of her triangle, to keep it from curling up. I wish I had known that when I started, as it about drove me nuts. I’ll definitely use that tip on the next one.) Be sure to add your photos from the 4th Qtr. Challenge ’08 to the Photo Gallery by 1/15 so that we can vote and award prizes.
Update on the things that many of you have been emailing me about and asking!
1. We do have Schaefer’s new Nichole yarn on order and the first part of our order is shipping out this week. We’ll have it up asap. We may put the first half up and then the rest later when it arrives, instead of making you wait for the whole thing. We also do have more Anne, Lola and Andrea on order for you.
2. Namaste’s Zuma Eggplant order is stuck in Customs at the moment. They’re hoping they’ll have it to ship out to all of their shops by mid-January. They know we’re all anxious to get it in! If you are on our pre-order list, we still have one with your name on it for you. If you did not pre-order and want to, I do still have a few available from this first order. Email me.
3. Sock Club details coming in Friday’s Blog Post. Sign-ups begin next Monday, the 12th.
4. Malabrigo Sock and Worsted – have been on order for a long time, and we’re not sure when it will be in. But we’re looking forward to getting it.
5. I’m heading off to our twice-a-year TNNA Market in a week, so that I can stay on top of all of the new yarns and trends for you! Email me if there is any line/yarn you’d like me to look into while I’m there. I’ll add it to my list.
6. Did you catch this week’s Sneak Up? We added lots of Hand Maiden Casbah, bellamoden Fingering, new Tempted Roving, Gypsy Knits DK, Loopy Soap, Romney Ridge Calendars, Addi Clicks, Opal Wintermarchen, and patterns from Figheadh and Nelkin Designs.
Lastly, Happy 25th Anniversary to my Wonderful Hubby.
I remember thinking 25 years was a long long time when my parents celebrated their 25th. It seems to go pretty fast when you’re the one in it! We were married on a cold, snowy night and it was beautiful. I added this particular photo because so many of you know my friend Janice, and if I’m going to show what Paul and I looked like 25 years ago, then I think you ought to see Janice and Steve, too. It was a fun weekend with all of our favorite friends and family there with us!

Count me in on the Clapotis KAL. It may be March before I cast on as I’m still “doing over” some Christmas 2008 knitting (the mitts didn’t fit so you must acquit) and I want to finish a couple of OTN projects before I start any new.

I am working on my Clap KAL. I am using Tuscan Grove-Red Pepper Flake and I absolutely am in LOVE! The color and the yarn! This is my 2nd Clap and I find it even more fun the second time around!
Oh, and I did add the marker at the bottom, but I used a plastic stitch marker (the ones that look like a diaper pin) and placed a heavier stitchmaker on it. Works wonderfully!

I’m in the Clap KAL too – using my Wollmeise in Indisch Rot. Still stuck in the increase sections, since I can only work on it after the toddler goes to bed and usually by the time that happens I’m exhausted so I go to bed too! Hopefully I’ll get some time on it this weekend!
I tied a heavy paper clip to my tail to solve the curling up problem.
Thanks for the Mal worsted update, I’m eagerly waiting its arrival, whenever that may be.

I’m planning on doing the Clap KAL although I haven’t started. I’m thinking Wollmeise 100% although right now, I don’t have two skeins of one color and am wondering if I can use just one since their yardage is so generous? I’ll dig around and find out.
This year is our 30th – wow! Who’d have thought he’d put up with me for this long?

My brother and his wife are celebrating their 25th anniversary today too. Congratulations. I remember the weather being kind of icky in Kansas that night too. I think I will join in on this knit along since I have some Schaefer Anne that didn’t want to be anything else and it has been kind of hinting to be a Clapotis. Can’t wait to see what you find at TNNA.

I’m in the Clap-Along as well – I’m using the Cascade Heritage Sock yarn I ordered from you a few months ago (it didn’t want to become my sister’s shawl but condecended to knit into the Clap). I am in the Clapotis KAL. It is my first Clapotis and I am making it from Blue Moon Fiber Arts Silkie Socks That Rock in the Walkin’ on the Wild Tide colorway. I got the yarn in their sock club in 2007 and thought I would prefer to use it for something else. Later, I ordered an extra couple of skeins (just to be on the safe side).
I’ve got to use up some of this stash so I can order more yarn from TLE!

25 years is a great, great accomplishment. All the best to the two of you! Dang, what a cute couple you guys are. When was that taken, last week?
It took me over two years to make my Clapotis, and I don’t know if I can face another. My mother actually saw and touched mine when it was in progress during the last visit we had before she passed away. It took me a long time to finish it up after that, since it reminded me so much of that trip, and it’s very special to me. I think it needs to remain an only child–er, project.

I’m really enjoying ‘leading’ the Clapotis KAL! It’s my first time: to lead one AND to knit the Clapotis.
Lots of EYECANDY when one searches by our special ‘tag’. ♥ Anyone can join but please cast on before Jan 31st.
We are honored that you’ve chosen to join us too Sheri! It’s very loose but ‘rules’ are on the very first post. Knit on! We’re all just ‘knitting until finished’ but I like that you’ve given some sort of end date here for FOs and pics. Anyone who doesn’t finish by then is stil invited to continue until finished, and can still do discussions on the thread.

Just wanted to wish you a Happy Anniversary. We will celebrate our 28th this summer.
BTW: CD graduated in December and will begin grad school next week. In the past couple of years she has moved from thinking my knitting was “cute” to loving her handknit socks to knitting scarves with cheap acrylic to taking a liking to the “good stuff” to buying her first skeins of Noro to teaching several college friends to knit. It has all just made me smile. As I told her – that is how this thing called knitting has lived on through the years. Knitting has even made an impression on my 17 year old son who drove to my favorite LYS and bought me a gift certificate for Christmas. It wasn’t the gift that touched me the thought that went into it . Wow – this is long…sorry.
As I said – Happy Anniversary!

I haven’t made a Clapotis yet (and I wasn’t sure I was ever going to), but I have seen a number on Ravelry made from a single skein of sock yarn. I was mostly looking at the Malabrigo sock yarn ones, but there are a lot of good examples in the Dream in Color yarns too. So delicious!

Happy 25th!! What a milestone! All four of you still look about the same now as you did then, well, maybe a *couple* of years older, but pretty much the same! I had thought about joining in the Clapotis KAL but I think I’m going to have to pass on it, and maybe do a mini-KAL with a couple of SnB friends later in the year. Right now, I’m working on my Loopy Swap project, and participating in the Spring Fling January KAL, and I have several other projects that I need to do (which haven’t been started yet) before I’d have the time for Clapotis. BTW, the feed to Bloglines isn’t working properly for me. I noticed it today and had unread blogpost since New Year.
And of course congratulations on your 25th!

I have failed to complete a single Clapotis because it’s such a LOOOOONG process of the same stitches…but maybe this time…for a KAL, I can actually finish one.
Count me in!
I’m using some Sanguine Gryphon Kypria in Nemesis. So pretty. So so pretty. =)

I’m in on the KAL, I’m just so far behind on things, this is the first chance I’ve had to get my ducks in a row

Happy Anniversary, Sheri & Paul! We’re right behind you — 23 years this June!
Count me in on the Clapotis KAL. No pictures yet; need to get my card reader fixed.

Happy anniversary, Sheri and Paul.
Count me in for the clapotis. This will be my fifth clapotis – I have given away three of them. It’s a fun knit.

Joining late, but still interested. Have some handspun from roving purchased at TLE that I’m excited to try.

I just finished up my Clapotis for the Q1-09 Challenge/KAL. I really loved the Bellagio yarn – I will definitely use it again in the future. The colors are just gorgeous and the yarn is really soft. I sent a photo for the Gallery as well.
