March Blog Contest – What’s Your Favorite…
… mug? Or teacup? Or your preferred container for hot beverages? This is my favorite. Some of you may remember that I have a habit of over-buying mugs/cups. I don’t know what it is. But I have found my favorite and I think my mug-buying days are over. (Unless this one breaks. But I know where to get another one of them.) I love the size of this, the weight of it, the feel of it, and the colors. (Mine came from here. I love their work and have purchased several things from them.) Since I’m so attached to this mug, it made me wonder if others of you have a favorite? Tell us about it in the comments below for this month’s blog contest. We’ll randomly draw the winners from the comments and will announce them next Friday.
Today’s recipe is one of those comfort food types of things. (Good taste plus pasta = comfort.) It makes a lot and there are all kinds of things in there. Just add some fresh fruit or a big salad to the menu and you have a meal.
1 pound spaghetti noodles, cooked al dente
3 cups shredded frozen hash browns, thawed
1 lb. sausage (or 3 chicken breasts, cooked and cubed)
2 Tbl. olive oil
1 bag of shredded cabbage slaw (or 1/2 head cabbage, shredded)
1 large onion, chopped
3 cloves of garlic, minced
1 cup (or can) of chicken broth
4 Tbl. butter
2 cups Parmigiano Reggiano Cheese, shredded
1 cup sharp cheddar, shredded
(Want more color? Add broccoli to the recipe. Yum!)
Brown sausage in skillet and drain. Add olive oil to the pan and stir in onion, garlic and cabbage, cooking until tender (about 10 minutes). Add chicken broth and heat through.
In large bowl, combine cooked noodles, hash browns, butter, 1 cup cheddar, 1 cup Parmigiano Reggiano, and cabbage/sausage mixture and mix well. Turn into a 9 x 13 pan and bake at 350 degrees for 25 minutes. Add the last cup of Parmigiano Reggiano cheese to the top and bake for 5 more minutes.
Because I don’t have quite enough knitting projects “in progress”, I picked up a book last night and have decided to make a Noro Chevron Sleeve Cardigan from Knitting Noro. Just for fun. (Although I’m not sure why I just admitted that to you. I ought to have kept quiet about it until I was almost finished. One day I’ll learn.)
People were eating chocolate here today. How do I know? There’s evidence on the floor. And just because there were kisses by my favorite mug in the photo, don’t be fooled. It was totally for eating scale so that you could get an idea of the mug size. (The carpeting looks a little ugly close up, don’t you think? It’s a good thing that there is a lot of beautiful yarn and chocolate around here to distract people from looking down.)

My very favorite mug is one I bought years ago at a Wild Bird Nature store. It has picutres of kittens on it, with flowers around the top. The best part though is it has an insert to place a tea bag in, and a lid that goes over it to keep it hot.

My fave mug is one I picked up for a $1 at the Dollar Store. It is white with a different shapes making up a snowman face. The best part is it holds 10 oz of yummy hot beverages, unlike most that only hold 8! Have a great weekend!

My current favorite mug is the one that I just got from Starbucks that looks like it is a cabled knit fabric. My other fave is my big Montana mug decorated with pine branches/cones. It’s a touristy type of thing that I bought here in town, but I love anything with a pine cone motif. It goes along with my pine cone Rosenthal china that I got from my parents as an early inheritance.

My favorite mugs are from Twisted River Clay too! Love them!
Interesting recipe – I wonder if it would work with tofu rather than meat and if I used vegetable broth…

I have a “Loopy Ewe red ” to go mug that I take my coffee to work with me in everyday. I also have a FedEx to go mug that I take along, full of coffee, for one of my residents. The coffee mug matches my Loopy Ewe water bottle, that I also carry to work everyday. They match! And everyone knows the red ones are mine.

My favorite mug is a stoneware mug that I picked up at a little store in New Mexico. It is nice and thick so it keeps everything warm for a long time. Also it has roadrunners on it. I have always loved roadrunners since my early childhood days of watching Coyote and Roadrunner on TV.

My favorite mug does not exist (yet).
However, the one I gave to my son looks really beautiful and feels so good, it is home made by someone in Waunifor, Wales.
i tried drinking tea from another ,average cup first, and then drank it from his: there was a notable difference: tea from a handmade mug tastes better!!

I have many favorite mugs, mostly because I also have a habit of over-buying them and like to use as many as possible. So there’s my favorite morning coffee at work mug (really big!), my afternoon coffee at work mug (smaller with cute little stripes inside), some extras at work just in case one of the others is unavailable for some reason (or if I want some tea, I guess??). And then the favorite home mugs, for the weekend – the most recent favorite of that bunch is a red Loopy mug from my fabulous swap pal in our recent Loopy swap over on Ravelry!

I like your mug!..I have a favorite mug also. I used to work at a college, and they would have an annual sale of items the students/teachers made. I picked up a few very unique items during the years – one of a kind and very beautiful. Well, I loved one mug so much I tracked down the artist from the name on the bottom and had her make me some more. She was thrilled and so was I. She made the perfect handle.

I have several mugs and teacups, but my favorite is a Christmas mug my best friend gave me several years ago. It holds 16 ounces and the painted outside is almost worn off. But I use it year round. Perhaps its the comfortable way it feels to hold , in combination of fond memories of my friend, but it’s my favorite mug.

I have two favorite mugs, at home it is one that a friend got me from Starbucks, it is white and has a knitted cable pattern on it. At work, it is a large 10oz mug that on one side reads “Mistress of the Messy Desk”, and on the other side it says “Organized People are just too lazy to look for things!”

My favorite mug is a souvenir from a years-ago trip to London… we stayed at a tiny little hotel called the “Stylotel”…. so named because everything in it was stylish! And by stylish, they meant “covered in some wierd metallic texturized finish.” It was as if they thought that by making every single surface shiny, you wouldn’t notice that your room was the size of a coat closet. Luckily they had a complimentary tea service set-up in the lobby, and I helped myself to a svelte “stylomug” to remember it by.

I, too, have a thing for mugs. My fav is one I picked up at a shop in Juneau, AK, on our thirtieth wedding anniversary cruise. It’s pottery glazed in a deep glacier teal and seafoam with a Tlingit carving of a salmon in chocolate brown. And it’s tall with a flared mouth. I love it because of course everytime I drink from it, I think of our wonderful cruise. The “evidence” reminds me of my house where my husband leaves a trail of Hershey kisses tags. I even find them outside around the mailbox because he picks one up every morning on his way out to get the paper!

My favorite mug was my “Loopy Ewe” mug that I got with the anniversary package a while back; I say “was” because I was not paying as much attention as I should have been a week or so ago and when I took it out of the cabinet, I dropped it and it broke
(; however now I’m using my second favorite, which is from a shop in Gatlinburg, TN called Treasures in Earthen Vessels – it is done in 2 shades of blue and holds ALOT!!

I have a new favorite mug. It’s one of the Starbucks knitwear mugs that were sold over the holidays. A knitter friend of mine gave it to me for Christmas. Over the holidays, I didn’t get into Starbucks, so I was totally surprised when I opened the gift. I didn’t know the mug was all the rage!
I drink out of it every day. It reminds me of my favorite hobby knitting and my favorite knitting buddy.

I guess I have two favorite mugs though one is no longer functional to hold liquid (crack). My favorite non-liquid-functional mug (now a pencil holder) is one with panels picturing cows from different countries saying “moo” in the language of that country. (Always makes me laugh)
Favorite functional mugs: My 10 yo daughter and I have tea every night as dad does the final tuck in on the younger kids. Our favorite mugs are a matched pair with Mount Fuji on the side we bought on close-out from Teavana. They are nice and heavy, no handles and a really wild glaze.

My favourite (for now) container for hot beverages is a huge mug the size of a bowl, like the ones they use when you order a bowl of hot chocolate, but with a handle. I got it at Ikea several years ago, and I love using it for herbal teas. Though I must say that I’d love having a handmade mug; one day I’ll treat myself to a pretty one from a local artist!

My favorite mug for my hot tea is a Longaberger Pottery mug. I’ve had it for 7 yrs! When I want to be fancy, I have my tea in one of my Moss Rose teacups. And when I want hot chocolate, I have it in my Loopy Ewe tall mug! It is perfect for a wonderful cup of hot chocolate on a cold day (or any day actually).
You are not alone with all the WIPs. I am now a member of that club. I resisted for a long time but there is so many new yarns and patterns out there I gave in and have started 8!! I know that doesn’t sound like many but for me it is way too many : )

I have two favorite mugs — one is a mug I got for 10 cents at a garage sale — it’s smallish but the glaze is beautiful and it has this abstract pattern of trees in it. The other mug has an illustrated alphabet on it and for some reason I will only use this mug to drink tea with — never coffee. I love coffee too, but this mug just begs for tea for some reason… either that or I’m just crazy obsessive about these sorts of things…

My mug is my favorite. When we were first married we aquired mugs as part of the dish pattern we registered for as well as another similar set in different colors. My husband has claimed the other set, and sadly begun working his way through them (every so often, another one breaks . . . hasn’t happened in a while, knock on wood). My mug is from the dish set. It’s basic – a tallish white mug, one of many. But I know it’s my mug because I dropped a strainer on it one day doing dishes and chipped a big chunk out of the handle. Now I can find my mug even in the dark!

My current favorite mug is a great big “Nightmare Before Christmas” porcelain mug that weighs about two pounds without being filled. We bought two of them at a Disney Store a few years ago, and one mug broke. Before that, my favorite was a Starbucks Alaska mug that met an untimely death when one of the kids tried to pick it up off of the counter.

I prefer mugs for all beverages — hot and cold. I like large ones that will hold lots of ice for cold drinks. My favorite is a 16 ounce dark blue one from Stratton, VT. Is isn’t very tall but is big around, speckled with white, and heavy. Very sturdy and keeps the coffee hot for quite a while.

I have three favorite mugs – I love them all equally. The first one is a University of Glasgow mug. I desperately wanted to go to University there. I didn’t, but I love my mug. THe second is a Death mug – from the Sandman comics. I used it at my job at the University I *did* go to. And the last one is my Art Deco style Rosie the Riveter mug….given to me by my friend/boss/professor/mentor at CU Boulder. LOL I am not sure how they are all college themed, but those are the first three I reach for.

I am still in search for the “perfect” mug. There are two that I really like, one is a mugh from the library reading program that they have every winter that says Melt Away the Hours with a Good Book and it has a snowman melting and my other favorite one is one I got from Wal-Mart that has all sorts of sweet names like SugarPie, Sweetie, Beautiful it was a Valentine’s Day mug.
I have also fallen into the startitis mode lately. I have two socks, a shawl, a sweater, a hat, and two scarves that I am working on. The scarves I really need to get done.

It doesn’t matter to me what is on the outside of a mug—my favorite mug has to have just the right “heft” and hold a good amount, but not too much that the coffee gets cold by the time I get near the bottom. My current favorite is white with a nice thick edge that feels just right when I drink the coffee…….mmmmmmm—can’t wait till morning!

My favourite mug is the big blue glass one with “Starbucks” etched on the side. It’s huge, but it has a little flared-out base so it’s not hot when you set it down on something. I keep it in work and fill it with Teavana tea every day.
I did have the 50th anniversary mug for my high school with the original school crest, but I think that’s still in England. The school was open for one day before the government took it over as a WW2 hospital, they gave it back afterwards though.

It depends on if I’m drinking coffee or tea. For coffee, I have a 20 oz tumbler made of recycled materials. But for tea, I prefer ceramics. My current favorite is a green mug with the black silhouette of a vaguely Siamese looking cat on it. It’s my office tea mug, and gets me through long days of meeting with students. At home, I have another ceramic mug, from a local French food chain, that has several white sheep being led by a black one, with the French for “follow the crowd” on it. The only reason it is not at the office is because I don’t want to break it! Besides, this way I have it at home while I’m knitting

Geez, just what I need – another Favorite Etsy Seller (FPS). Those are awesome mugs. Ceramic is my weakness. I’ll take a sturdy, glazed mug over a tea cup any day. Right now, my fave is my white, cabled mug from Starbucks that I bought as a Christmas gift for myself. Me and hundreds of others, right?
It just so happens that I did start another WIP last night. A pair of socks that my sister asked me to make as a b-day present for her to give a good friend of hers. That friend was oggling the pair I had made my sister. So I did a stash dive and pulled out a skein of Cascade Heritage in Indian Sunset – great color!

What a fun question!!! I seem to have acquired quite a few mugs over the years, and I have had several favorites. My current favorite is one that my husband gave to me. My husband is a professor at a small graduate school (AFIT). They recently renovated their bookstore, and he went in there one day to check it out. While there, he saw a coffee mug with the AFIT logo on it that was shaped like a mug that I had been using often at home. Of course, he brought it home to me. It was so sweet! Isn’t it the little things that always mean the most to you? Now, I drink my coffee and think of him after he heads off to work.

Out of the 70 mugs I regulary rotate through, there’s several favorites — the Snoopy mug that was my very first mug, the Grover mug that I got in San Diego, the Sandra Boynton mug that was a present, the handmade pottery mugs I’ve picked up in various places, the mugs in colors like Provence textiles. If I had to pick one, it’d probably be the one with the Celtic swan design that I picked up at a booth at the Society for American Archaeology convention many years back.

My favorite mug is made by a New Jersey potter named Don Bradford. He doesn’t have a website or a mailing list, so I stalk him every summer, tracking him down at at least one craft show, either here in PA or over there in NJ. . . it’s a gray-green glaze, with the darker layer dripping over the lighter, almost verdigris, layer. It’s pot-bellied like yours but without the straight section below the “belly.” Perfectly balanced, and holds enough coffee. I like his other designs, too, but this is the winner.

I have 2 favorite mugs, they were both gifts. The first is a large ceramic mug both of my hands fit around it and it’s about that tall. It’s parchment colored with a snow scene painted on it, the cabin and trees are in relief. The rim is supposed to be wood, and it has a pine cone relief on it.
The second is a new addition. It’s tall and skinny, one hand fits around it. It’s white with a block of different colored hearts on it. The walls are thick and I really like that. It was a gift in my Valentine’s Day caffeine addict swap.

At home, my everyday “mug” is an old, heavy plastic mug from A & W Rootbeer (the logo is mostly gone)–actually I think it’s from the fast food chain they used to have around here in Northern Illinois–that holds a good two cups. Unlike ceramic mugs, it is very touchable with even the hottest water. And, if I knock it over, it doesn’t break. However, I own many, many more mugs of the usual ceramic variety. At work–because several mugs I brought in “disappeared”, even an ugly 25 cent Christmas one with my name written on it in several places (!)–I now use a decrepit, deliberately unscrubbed (it is rinsed out), ugly orange Tupperware mug that holds 10 oz. I only drink tea, no coffee.

My favorite mug is a handmade one from Deb Babcock’s Blue Sky Pottery etsy store. It has the sides kind of squished in to make a place for your hand to hold it, and an adorable leaf shaped saucer to match. It’s also very large so it holds my latte in the morning. Love it!

I have two favorite mugs…at home…it’s my Longaberger mugs…on the go…it’s a stainless steel commuter cup that keeps the beverage very hot for a while.
I’ve already got an abundance of WIPs and am not starting anymore until I finish my clapotis and my daily sweater!!!!! (Well, I might start another gift sweater.) I have Daily Sweater, Clapotis, St Louis Socks, Sudan pencil pouch, a prayer shawl, Oregon sweater and baby sweater all on the needles plus a weaving project and spinning. That being said, it’s back to the knitting…
Have a nice weekend.

I too have quite the mug collection. They are one of the things I love to pick up when traveling. I especially like handmade pottery styles like your favorite. I’m currently after DH to make us a couple of 6-foot-tall mug trees to hold our ever growing mug collection. I have to say that my favorite – the one I use daily at work – is one I painted myself at one of those paint your own pottery places. It’s huge and holds plenty of coffee to get me started in the mornings at work. My current favorite at home is my Alaska mug that I received from AKSherry in the LE III Swap.

My favorite mug was a turquoise stoneware with a big handle, but the edge somehow got chipped. Two weeks ago I found a nice sized replacement at Dollar Tree, of all places. It’s got black paisley pattern on a white mug. Matches my kitchen apron. BTW, I love your recipes.

My favorite mug has van Gogh’s Sunflowers on it. My sister gave it to me when I was a freshman in college—many, many years ago. It’s survived many moves in and out of the dorms while I was in college and then apartments while DH was in grad school, and now here where we’ve settled. Lots of memories…
I can’t cast on a new project now, but I really want to cast on one of the shawls in the new Knitty. I’m busy designing a mystery sock for the Solidsocks ravelry group—and testing out the pattern right now.

My favorite mug is actually TLE anniversary mug that came in last year’s kit. I love how tall it is so I have more to drink, I love the color, and I love the weight of it. In fact, I just washed it out this evening from last night’s coffee. I think I’ll go and make myself a cup of tea in it right now!

My favorite is one of my Longaberger mugs. I’ve used them for years, and I always come back to them, even though I have other temporary “faves”. I went through a jadite phase a few years ago, but came back to the Longaberger. They’re the right size, the right weight, and the lip is perfect for sipping!’
And, I also have new WIP everywhere. There is the wedding afghan on the living room sofa, the dishcloth on the sunroom table, the sweater on the loveseat, the newest pair of socks on the table next to the recliner. I thought this morning, I have knitting everywhere, so no matter where I am, there is something to pick up and knit. Don’t know if its a sickness, or just good taking care of me!

I have 2 favorite mugs, and they both bring back memories for me. One is a big ceramic handmade mug my Mom brought me back from Eastern Europe, and the other was her favorite mug. After she died I asked Dad if I could have it. Whenever I have the need to feel close to her, I make some coffee and drink it from her mug. It brings back a lot of good memories. I miss you Mom – but I’ll always have our memories of drinking coffee together on the weekends and catching up.

At the moment, my favorite coffee mug is my American Livestock Breeds Conservancy (ALBC) mug with the William Beebe quote, “…When the last individual of a race of living things breathes no more, another Heaven and another Earth must pass before such a one can be again.” – along with endangered livestock artwork on it. I used to have an Edmund Fitzgerald mug I really liked, but I think I saw it in the barn once, and since I don’t drink coffee in the barn, my husband must have stolen it! My other favorite mug is the one with the quote “A hundred years from now it will not matter what my bank account was, the sort of house I lived in, or the kind of car I drove…but the world may be different because I was important in the life of a child.” I guess I like mugs with quotes on them! And if I ever get tired of either one of those, we collect coffee mugs when we travel, so I have a choice of hundreds of other mugs!

My favorite mug depends on what I’m drinking. We’ve lived all over and my souvenirs/gifts have been Starbuck’s mugs. So herbal tea – the New Zealand Kiwi mug my daughter gave me from her visit when she lived in Australia. My morning jolt goes in a large England Shakespeare mug, and my afternoon Yorkshire Tea goes in Germany Brandenburg Gate mug. Of course I have about 20+ so they do change once in a while, but these are the ones I grab for these times.

My favorite mug is not too different from yours but I’ll bet its story is. It’s also handmade and in similar colors, primarily blues. It’s gorgeous. I got it in Mendocino on my honeymoon. Nice perhaps even a little romantic, but nothing special, right? Ha!
This honeymoon (not my first but definitely my last) was after my marriage, at age 47 to the man I fell in love with when I was 23 but had “lost” for 20 years. We had dated for a while back then and feel in love. But we were very young. It was frightening. We saw each other a few times over the next years (it was the 70’s/80’s…love was “free”) but lost touch with each other. Over the next 20 years I had one long term serious relationship and a marriage (that resulted in BalletDaughter). But when I was single, I did remember him with great love and even looked in the phone book and tried to find him. Unfortunately, with a somewhat common last name in the hugely populated SF Bay Area, it was impossible to find him. And I had changed my last name. Then, through serendipity (longer story…some other time) I found him. And he was living about one mile from me!
After tentative communications, we discovered we were both single and made a date to see each other again. The sparks were still there; as deep as ever but maybe now even solidified by the maturity we had both gained over the years. It didn’t take long for us to decide we were NOT going to lose each other again and on December 15, 2000 with my then 4 year old daughter as “flower-ring girl” we were married in front of our own fireplace surrounded by a small group of family. We left for a three day honeymoon in Mendocino and though it was the middle of winter, we braved the rain to shop in that gorgous little town. And that is where I found this cup, the one I use for my coffee almost every day (and cherish almost as much as I cherish him!)
So you see Sheri, my story is proof that dreams do come true.

Oooh, this is a tough one because I have a few favorites but probably my most favorite mug is a cute little mug I picked up at Starbucks a few years ago. It’s a simple white glazed mug. The outside is a little bumpy and feels kind of nice when I hold it. The inside of the mug is all pink (my favorite color) and on the outside of the mug it has a little outline of a daisy with the word “inspire”. I don’t know what it is about this mug but it always makes me smile. I don’t know if it’s because it feels just right in my hands or if it’s because it has pink on it or if it’s because the word “inspire” just makes me want to go and create something, but it’s just my favorite mug.

My favorite mug(s) are any manufactured by Waechtersbach. They aren’t microwave-safe, but they’re big, lightweight, and well balanced. I usually drink from one that is dark Hunter green–it’s my “evergreen” mug–but I also have a great one for the holidays that is red with a Christmas tree.
What’s ugly about that carpet? I really like the colors, and couldn’t help noticing how clean it is!

I have several favorite mugs. All of them are BIG because when I want coffee (which I do every morning) I want a LOT of it NOW. Some of my favs are handmade stoneware purchased at local street fairs. Others are store-bought. One has a bowling theme, one has a “wild woman” theme to commemorate a weekend with girlfriends at the beach, and then there’s the Starbucks mug I bought on sale after Christmas that looks like an aran sweater on the outside. A couple of them are plain glass from IKEA. They’re BIT and have handles that I can put four fingers through for a good “fist grip” and there’s no worries about popping them in the microwave to reheat if I get distracted online or with knitting or spinning and the coffee goes cold.
And of course there’s my Loopy mug from the anniversary kit, too!

I like a fairly large mug with a good heavy base — but nothing is as important as the handle. If it’s too small, then you can’t pick up your drink when it’s truly hot and that completely contradicts the purpose of a mug.
My favorite are also hand made from a family potter friend that now has a listing here:

(http://www.flickr.com/photos/wiscjennyann/3099923893/) I bought this mug on Etsy last year. I love the rustic, stoneware look and feel. The details of the simple skyline are subtle and fit perfectly with the styling. I drink my coffee out of this mug *everyday.* It has totally replaced my previous favs, the diner mug set… also prized mug possessions. I am away from home right now for 2 months and I *actually* miss my mug! Is it weird to miss an inanimate object? Maybe not when it is the vessels that transports my precious coffee nectar…

By the way I called our local Senior Center and they take yarn donations. I noticed they were teaching a beginning knitting class and they were very happy that anyone would even think of donating yarn. Since I am very close to being a Senior (depending on your definition!!) I was so happy to downsize my collection where it was so wanted. FYI.

I don’t drink coffee, so it’s funny that I do have a favorite mug. It gets use during the cold weather for hot chocolate. My husband bought it for me when we moved in to our brand new house together. I’m not sure what compelled him to buy it, other than it is clearly perfect for me. It looks like a plain black mug, only about twice the size. The inside, however, is a lovely shade of purple. I know it’s not exciting, but I like that it’s kind of a secret. Boring on the outside, but beautiful on the inside.
Your mug reminds me of the Renaissance Festival in Maryland, there is a vendor there who crafts mugs, bowls, and other pottery. Oh, and just for the fun of it, check out their yarn bowls.

My favorite mug is one that I cannot remember where it came from but it has a badly drawn chicken on it. I like it because it big, holds alot of coffee or Earl Grey, and shows you do not need to be a competent artist to be a good mug. My favorite mug is about 1/2 size larger than “normal” mugs. It’s a dark cream color with two pairs of brightly colored flip-flops on the side and underneath it says “Friends Forever”. I bought two of them and took them with me when a friend and I took a girls’ trip to Mexico. I gave her one and kept one and it’s been my favorite ever since. Whenever I use it it brings back memories of the two of us drinking coffee on our balcony looking out at the ocean. Awesome!
Thanks for the recipe – I’m always looking for new things to try and this looks like it’s worth a try.

Oddly enough my favorite mug is nearly identical to your own.
Last September I attended our small Endless Mountains Fiber Festival in Harford, PA. While checking out all of the various vendors I came along one that was featuring hand made pottery bowls, vases and other items. She had about 10 mugs hanging on a display. None of them were exactly the same but most of them were more or less of a kind, tall with mostly straight sides. There was but ONE that was small, very round with a curved lip (such as yours) and a nice wide handle for safer and surer gripping, with a deep enough curve that your fingers won’t be burned as you hold your cup filled with very hot tea or coffee. I checked every mug she had, and then compared them in heft against the little round one. I found myself going back to that little round mug every time. Finally it sunk it this is the one that was meant for me. And so it is. My little mug is a solid tan in color, and the only real difference I can see from your own is that my little mug does not curve out at all on the bottom. It is very round, and then the base is just flat. Like yours, this had become my “favorite” cup. It fits my hand perfectly. Has a nice wide lip and a good sturdy handle. The way a mug should be. I think we all get Spring Fiber…er, Fever at this time of year. I swore I’d finish a sweater, and since that statement I’ve knit to completion three projects and have two more on the needles that I’ve started since then as well.
And then the new Knitty came out. I’m doomed.

To preface this, I must say that I love cats and the color purple and I was thrilled to find the combination in a MUG. I was at a little artisan community north of San Diego and there I found this treasure. One side of the mug has a cute little black cat surrounding by purple dots and on the other side has the words “Feline Groovy”……Get it !! And then the inside of the cup is painted pale purple. Additionally, the outside of the cup is done in off white and has swirls of pale green and purple swirls giving you the ’80s feeling. It certainly is unique and as I result I can get a little over cautious but then that is why I love it so much and it gives me such joy.

Hi Sheri,
My favorite mug at work…. is the red loopy mug that I traded a skein of wollmeise for and I also got that great blue loopy shopping bag.
My favorite mug at Home… My loopy blue mug from the sock club.
Your recipe looks great but today I’m doing cornbeef and cabbage in honor of St Patrick.
Have a great weekend.

I have a couple of mugs that I got from my sister about 5 or 6 years ago. She works cleaning dorm rooms and that year the school she works at gave the kids mugs to try and save on paper cups.
They are plastic and insulated so my tea stays hot for a lot longer than with a regular mug. I have a green one at home and a black one at work.
My blue Loopy mug sits next to my chair where I knit and holds pretty knitting needles!

My very favorite mug is clear glass with a lid and a tea infuser that fits right in the mug. The glass is the type used for lab equipment and it seems to keep the tea very hot for a long time–hate it when coffee or tea cools in the cup.

My favorite mug is a plain white Simple Additions mug from Pampered Chef. It’s just big enough, but not too big, and not too heavy. I love that it is so plain, but it’s interesting with a square shape. I don’t think they make them anymore, though. They’ve changed the design I believe. It’s my go-to sitting around drinking coffee or tea cup.
For travel, I have to swear by the stainless travel mug I picked up (for WAY too much money) at Disney years back. It was a special trip, so I wanted a souvenir that would last and be useful as well. I didn’t have a good travel mug, so I got one and my DH got a different one. It was entirely too much money for just a travel cup, though, but I have to say that it’s the best one I’ve ever had. I still use it all the time and it keeps my beverages really warm. Not sure I think the cost was worth it for just a travel mug, but I like to think of it as our special trip souvenir AND a travel mug. So it was worth it when I think of it that way.
Can’t wait to see that Noro sweater…sounds interesting!

My favorite is similar to the one in your photo. I love the speckly finishes (yes, that’s the scientific term), and turquoise combined with brown and grey. Mine curves in at the top also which helps keep my tea warm. Can’t have cold tea! Well, not cold tea that’s meant to be hot….
The pasta and cabbage casserole sounds awesome. I think it will go on this week’s menu.

my favorite mug was purchased from the arts and crafts section at the fall fair 2 years ago. It is handmade in blues, purples type wash with a gecko crawling up the side and peeking over the edge. I had the same fav mug for 13 years that had fish painted all over it, it was a good 20 ouncer with ice. It fell one day and lost the handle but i still used it…tried everything to put the handle back on but….oh well. A good chunky mug feels so good in the hand when filled with a tea or coffee beverage!

I have 2, actually, that I got at Starbucks a couple years ago – it’s grande size, stainless steel, I have one in pink and one in purple, has a rubber sleeve round the middle and keeps my coffee hot for hours (which is great when I drink it slow, doesn’t matter so much if I drink it fast). LOVE those mugs.

I love to drink coffe in the mornings, and when I do I think of her. It brings a pause to the busy life NYC and takes me back to a laid back morning back in PR…at least for a few minutes… with a smile in my facer ready to face the day in NYC

I have three favorites, actually. There’s a china tea cup that I love to use on slow, lazy days when I can actually sip. It’s old Bavarian china, and I got a set of two of them at a resale shop for next to nothing, but it makes me feel special. Then, there’s this large, roundish mug with snowflakes on it that we got at Cracker Barrel on sale. I have a small tea pot, and this mug holds exactly half of it. It’s perfect on cold winter mornings, and a good shape to cup cold hands around, too. Then, there’s my regular mug, which holds just over 1/3 of my tea pot. It’s got lady bugs on it, but otherwise it’s just a normal mug.
And Sheri, don’t worry about WIPs. The puppy keeps eating my winter hats, so I’ve constantly got a new one starting. He’s eaten four so far this winter. Oh, yes, and then there are the baby things for a couple of friends…. Lots of WIPs.

Mug or teacup? It depends how I feel that morning, but usually I reserve the teacups for weekend mornings. DH uses the mugs the came with our current stoneware set for his coffee. I have several mugs and they are all favorites — a blue and white Japanese patterned mug, a Starbucks mug that is pink and white with a big yellow tulip on each side, my big blue Loopy Ewe mug and a big clear Teavana mug that was a gift from my best friend and SIL.
Now, my most special mug is one I have at work. My mom, who passed away in 1996, gave it to me when I got my first job after graduating from college so I would have a mug for work. It was from a Hallmark store, a thick, handmade clay mug that is blue near the top and bottom and off white in the middle with my name on it. It was made by a company called “Clay in Mind”. I’ve had it for 23 years now.

My favorite mug varies. During the week, when I’m having that first cup of coffee while I get ready to work, it doesn’t really matter which one I use out of the wide variety that I have. Since I got my Keurig brewer, I look for the mugs that will easily hold the 9.5 oz brew size and I have two that I got while on visits to Hawaii that I enjoy using (one a rather typical ‘tiki’ style with my name in Hawaiian on it–Ku– and another with one of my favorite tropical flowers, a Protea). On the weekends, when I know I’ll be home for awhile and drinking more coffee, on my favorite mugs to use is my Loopy Ewe mug from (I believe) last years Birthday kit. It’s just the right size and I can easily add more coffee to it from the Keurig without worrying about overflowing.

My fave mug is a “monster-mug”. It’s HUGE – big enough to use as a soup-bowl. Only cost me $2 and has a picture of a lazy panda in front of it. It’s been through a lot of wear and dropped it a few times but its so sturdy that it hasn’t broken. It’s got a cracked at the side from all the (ab)use but I love it too much to throw it away. My two favorites, both bought for me by my mom: the first is blue with tiny crowns all over it, and a little frog prince in the middle. He’s also at the bottom of the cup. We found it while visiting Oxford, England, so it’s also a reminder of the indoor market there. I love the frog prince story! The second says: COFFEE: do stupid things faster with more energy! And that pretty much describes my love affair with coffee. Which I am drinking right now.

In 1996 while visiting Philadelphia, I went to the annual juried Crafts show. I felt as if I were in a museum, and almost everything I saw and coveted was beyond my means. I still remember beautiful earrings made from antique gold Roman coins. But one artisan from Florida had gorgeous pottery including a few mugs, and my favorite, to this day, is the one thing I COULD afford that evening. A speckled jade green, the mug has lines that are beautifully rounded and just enough detail at the lip and handle to be unique. I take special care of it so it will last forever….

Actually, I like the carpeting.
My favorite mug is from O’Reilly’s Rainforest Guesthouse at the entrance to Lamington National Park near Brisbane, Australia. The trees there are so old that some of them have rotted away in the center, but are still growing on the outside. The spaces are large enough for people to see the tree from the inside out. The mug is designed like those trees, with a face in the bark. It has a very flat bottom, good for a warming unit. I can’t use it now, because it has a crack, and I don’t want it to break any further, but I still look at it on the shelf and remember my trip.

I have two favourite mugs; one for home and one at my boyfriend’s place that we picked out specially. The former is giant (about 2.5 actual cups) and necessarily so as that mug of coffee gets me through the day. The latter is about half the size and a lovely glazed green. It can afford to be half the size as when I am able to be at his place it means a leisurely morning where I can pour myself another.
I’m a big fan of collecting funky and eclectic dishes/mugs rather than buying a boring set all the same.

On most mornings (the ones that start well, anyway) I drink coffee and knit while I wake up for about half an hour. My favorite mug is one from a cherised family vacation spot; Betty’s Pies in northern MN. We always go out of our way to stop for our favorite piece of pie on our way to (and from!) our destination on the Gunflint Trail. The coffee mugs are so great – huge, thick ceramic so the coffee stays hot and you don’t have to stop knitting very often – that we finally bought a set last year when we came home.
And Sheri – just so that you’d have company, I cast on 2 more things this weekend even though I have three wips going!

I have a favorite coffee/hot chocolate mug that I absolutely adore!
This mug I purchased in Little Tokyo last Spring in LA. I went there with my boyfriend and a few of his friends. The shop had so many different cute items and kitchenware from spoons, glasses, plates, decorations, etc. The selection of hand crafted mugs/cups were outstanding! I wish I had my own kitchen to purchase all of them and use them every day! I still remember exactly where that store is and am of course going to stop by next time I go there.
What really attracted me to this mug was the groove along the handle and how it changed. But especially the texture of the roughness at the bottom of the mug and then the smoothness due to the paint and glaze on the top of it. I liked how it was ‘in my mind’ dipped in color and smoothness at the top. I love this mug so much~ I get nervous when anyone else uses it in my house… my brother has used it several times… oh I stress. I don’t want it broken! xD Not until I buy a million more once I go back to that shop! ;D
Here is a photo of my mug:

My favorite mug was a free gift from my graduate school when I attended a scholarship dinner. (I was surprised at the quality of a freebie) It’s green and narrower at the top than the bottom, with a good heft. The nice thing about a small bottom is that there is less space for hot chocolate goop to get stuck there, and more gets stirred in.
Now, I live in the desert southwest, so not a lot of hot beverages get drunk…but, you know, it’s still my favorite mug.

My current favorite mug is the knitted ceramic mug that Starbucks was selling late fall early winter. I love it. I do wish it was a tad bit larger.
My other favorite mug is also a Starbucks model from about 6 years ago. It is a lapis blue color and is just the perfect size.

I have a few faves; it depends on what I’m drinking. For tea I like big mugs, and my current favorite is this mug my fiance bought me at the science museum in Chicago. It says something like “you’re out of this world” on it. Cheesy, but sweet coming from him.

My Blue Loopy Ewe Mug is used daily for coffee and is def my favorite! Because of my hand problems (nerve damage) I have to have a mug that is heavier than the avg one and has a handle big enough to acomodate all of my hand in it for stability and lifting The Loopy Ewe fits those perfectly
! Unlike all my other mugs I havent dropped it once!! It fits my hand perfectly and is just heavy enough I know I am picking it up without having to actually feel it!

What a cool mug! My favourite one is a tall mug, black, and it has the US Army logo on the face. I suspect the Loopy mug is the same shape & size…extra tall, so that after you make your hot chocolate, there’s still plenty of room to add Bailey’s.
For tea, I’ve a selection of exquisite antique teacups & saucers, some as old as a hundred years or more. I’ve also got a number of antique silver teaspoons, though those could really do with a good polishing right now. I really dig the whole production of a cup of tea, and like to make it as special as possible.
I’m trying really hard not to cast on right now. Sock Madness starts in just a couple days, so I don’t have time! I still have to finish up a pair of socks, the first pair I’ve used my own handspun in (at 80 sts around, though, it’s taking forEVER. Maybe I shouldn’t spin *quite* so finely next time). I am, however, just dying to cast on some Interlacements for a shawl…mmmm…

I love my Starbucks mug with the knitted cables. I spent months ignoring it since I didn’t NEED another mug. No point in spending money when I didn’t have to. My husband knew I was constantly drooling over it but was too frugal to indulge. He came home one night with an early Christmas present for me. It was the mug! AND he got it during Starbucks’ sale! I’m almost embarrassed to say it but my favorite mug is one that my husband bought at Starbucks right before we moved from Chicago to New York. My favorite mug is a 20 year old hand-thrown mug from a GA potter whose name I probably knew 20 years ago, bought at a shop specializing in the works of artists from the area. It’s wide-mouthed and heavy, so it keeps my tea nice and warm, and it’s got lovely mountain-like glazing on the sides.

My favorite mug isn’t a mug at all but a 1960’s clear glass with green leaves painted on the side. Any mug or tea cup (have a huge collection) will do, as long as tea is in it.
I love the knitting Noro book and love the Chevron sweater. I have two (a tad embarrassed) sweaters I’m working on from there – both in Noro Silk Garden. The one with the shawl collar and the zip up hoodie. Both for my daughters (14 and 22).

Favorite tea cup? Hmm- well I don’t drink tea or coffee, so it’s not one I use. But after my Grandfather passed away, I got my Grandmother’s collection of china tea cups (which I nicely shared by letting each girl cousin pick ONE! The rest are mine, all mine!) and my favorite is a solid black tea cup. The inside is white and painted with beautiful pink flowers. All the others are solid white on the inside and decorated on the outside, but this one, has a surprise inside, and I love that.

I bought my favorite mug at the gift shop in the Smithsonian’s Museum of American History while I was a summer intern there in 1999, It’s a big, handmade mug with a grumpy purple cat painted on it. It’s big enough to hold lots of coffee, purple’s one of my favorite colors, and the grumpy cat reminds me of all the felines I’ve known and loved. And using it also reminds me of the summer when I bought it, a summer when I managed to live in a strange city by myself and when I finally figured out what I wanted to do with my life. I can’t believe I’ve had it for nearly ten years!

I would have to say that I have 3 favorite mugs….and that’s pretty good, considering how full my “mug” cabinet is!!! The first resides at my parents’ house, and is one they bought me in Gatlinburg, somewhere on the “craft trail.” It’s a pottery mug and has a nice purple glaze on it (I love purple!). I use it every time I’m at their house, and I love it! The second is aa pottery mug from North Carolina. We’ve travelled to the pottery areas (Jugtown, Seagrove) of NC for many many years, and my mom got me and my DH a set of mugs the last time we went. They are read on the top and have a gorgeous salt glaze on the bottom. Love salt glaze! The third mug that I really love is from Starbucks, and it has the word “coffee” in about a dozen languages. It’s fun to read when drinking out of it.

The only bad thing about it is that it’s made for a kid, so it doesn’t really hold much. Cute though!

I’m a mug person. I broke my favorite mug a couple months ago. It sported the Far Side cartoon where the dog is trying to lure the cat into the dryer by writing “cat fud” on the door and drawing an arrow. I loved that mug!
My husband recently bought me a replacement. It has a quote from Thoreau written on the side: “Go confidently in the direction of your dreams! Live the life you’ve imagined.” It doesn’t crack me up the way “cat fud” would, but DH is a sweetie and he wants me to be inspired.

It’s a hand thrown ceramic mug. It’s around 8 inches tall and holds exactly a half a pot of tea. I don’t know why I love it so much, but I can’t imagine mornings without it.
And don’t feel too bad about the WIPs. I’m running low, as I only have three active projects. Normally it’s around 8.

I definitely prefer a mug for everyday use. Though I have some gorgeous teacups that I’ve collected over the years. I think my favorite mug would be one that I got at a sale held by our local university’s ceramics department. It’s round and squat but holds a large cup of tea, has a very comfortable handle, and is glazed in a creamy-pinky-bluey almost opalescent sort of glaze.
My favorite teacup is harder to choose. I have a gorgeous Limoges teacup in an Art Nouveau flower pattern…and a Norwegian teacup with a wedding procession marching around the inside of the cup — complete with drunken guest! — and I have some lovely Shelley teacups…too hard to choose!

I have one Danoon mug that I ordered from Britain called “Dogs Frolics” that has dogs all over it chasing a string of sausages. My favorite mug is a Tigger mug I got so long ago I don’t even remember when I got it or where I got it from. I like it because it’s taller than your average coffee mug (taller = more coffee!) but not so tall as to feel like a beer stein.
Also – am I the only one who can’t bring myself to drink cold drinks from a mug? If it’s a ceramic mug, it needs to have warm liquid in it. Otherwise it just seems wrong.

My favorite mugs are the ones I have from Waechtersbach. They are a good size, heavy weight (so drinks stay warm), and the designs are glazed into the ceramic, so they go through the dishwasher without fading. I also love my mug from Sheep Meadow in Central Park — probably because of the little sheep logo.

I LOVE mugs, its a passion of mine. My favorite right now is a handthrown pottery mug that has a handle shaped much like yours. Handles are very important to me for the comfort. I want at least three of my fingers in the handle. The shape is rather hourglass and it holds 14 oz. It is a lovely warm beige with blue and brown designs. I can’t remember specifically where I got it, I just know it was in Seagrove the pottery meca of North Carolina.

Hmm, my favorite mug is ancient and I made it myself. I had just gotten through an unexpected divorce and having just been thwacked, I decided I needed all the help I could get. I went to one of those paint-it-yourself places and made it robin’s egg blue with purple spots (my ex would have made fun of me for something so juvenile and that’s why I did it–because so much of what I loved, he looked down on). I painted a cute little flower on the bottom, inside. That way I could have a little sweet surprise when I finished my coffee, or cereal or ice cream
It’s still in one piece and so am I. New opportunities grew out of all that bullsh*t and I’ve been grateful ever since!!

My absolute favorite mug of all time is either one of a handmade pair that my husband and I bought on our last trip to Ireland. It is perfectly rounded to fit in my hands, with fluting at the top and a thick bottom so I do not burn my sensitive fingers when it is full of hot tea. The handle swoops away from the body of the mug with a small disc of clay at the top for my thumb so it has perfect balance even when it has been filled up to the very top. It has beautiful blue and rusty brown glazing with castle arches and swirls raised up off of the body. The very best part of my favorite mug is that it reminds me of that rainy day last February when we ducked into the Kilkenny Shop in Dublin to buy it!

I seem to have a mug fetish, also. My husband and I buy a mug from our travels assuming they’re decent looking. They make a great travelogue. Unfortunately, I’ve run out of space to display them. For drinking purposes, I have two favorites. The first is from Cooper-Mays Pottery in Pittsboro, NC. It’s a teal color and the shape is such that the middle is narrower than the top and bottom, which allows the fingers to comfortably fit around the middle. Also, the handle is big enough to allow all fingers access. My second favorite is from Hershey, Pa. I like it because it holds a tremendous about of liquid. It’s bulbous in shape with a large opening which allows the coffee to cool to a drinkable temperature in a short amount of time. Some days are hectic, and I can’t wait for my Cooper-Mays mug to cool.

My favorite mug is pretty new, actually! I wandered into one of my favorite local cooking stores during our annual downtown chili cook-off a couple weeks ago. I spotted a beautiful mug- light purple background (with a darker purple and light pink stripe at the bottom and top) with an overlay of light purple and silver leaf outlines. The best part- it was $5! In a store loaded with beautiful, albeit a little esoteric, unitaskers of which Alton Brown would disapprove. It’s a little taller and narrower than traditional mugs but I love it SO much!

He’s leaving for Afghanistan next month, so I know I’ll be using that mug practically every morning, trying to remember the fun we had that night instead of thinking about how dangerous it is over there.

My favorite mug is an old Disney mug, it’s huge almost 4 inches in diameter. The handle is big enough that all 4 fingers can go through and the mug is so big I can completely wrap both hands around it, and I don’t have to worry about stopping my knitting to get a refill. The inside lip reads “Mornings Aren’t Pretty” and the outside is Mickey, half awake, in his bath robe, and notes to point out “morning ear droop”, “twisted tail”, “goofy old slippers” and “cheesy robe”, holding a coffee cup and a doughnut.
My runner up is a new mug from a friend, it reads, “A good friend knows how you take your coffee, a great friend adds booze”.

I have a mug that i have had since at least 1990… i hope I don’t jinx it now talking about it! It too is the perfect size and weight, and if it is clean and put away, I always go for it in the morning first. It looks like the old time speckled tin paint mugs that were tin. It is blue paint with white paint spots all over it, but it is ceramic, so it holds the heat in well. My close second is the new mug my mom was thoughtful to get me for Christmas, the Starbucks mug that looks like knitting. If the ceramic was thicker and held in heat it may be my new favorite… but it is thin and my coffee gets cold too fast… or I drink it too slow… either way, I would need to knit a cozy for my knit mug..kind of pointless huh?? My DH has a favorite mug too, had it for maybe 20 yrs + also, he has a mug with the John Lennon/ Yoko Ono drawing on it… that is his go to mug too:) thanks for the raffle!!

I used the mug for many years even after the picture started fading. We moved to NY just last year and shortly beforehand, we cleaned out quite a bit. My favorite mug is a stainless steel mug sold by Starbucks years ago. It’s narrow at the top and has a really wide bottom (kinda like me!). It was designed to make it difficult to accidently knock it over. I really needed that, which was why I went ahead and shelled out twenty bucks for it back about 6 years ago. Still, it’s been worth its weight in gold because: a) I never mix it up for someone else’s mug; b) I rarely knock it over.

Honestly, my current favorite is not exactly a cup or a mug, but rather a stainless Thermos can holder, since I normally drink Arizona Sun Tea’s Raspberry Iced Tea. I do have a couple of mugs that I love from Copper Harbor, Michigan, with pictures of the woods with a moose on them, if I am having a cup of tea.
(I’m not a coffee drinker. My mom tried, beginning when I was 3 years old, with my own demitasse cup of coffee that was literally half milk and sugar. She was sad that I just do not care for coffee, although I love the smell of fresh coffee brewing in the morning, along with bacon cooking.:-) )

My favorite mug is a discontinued travel mug from a local coffee shop in Rochester, NY where my sister lives. It’s a standard metal travel mug, but it has this awesome crossing-sign design: the figure crossing is holding a steaming mug. I bring it to work with me every day.

For drinking out of I prefer my Fiesta mugs. They have that old-time diner feeling to them. My favorite sentimental mug is a Tweety bird mug that I got when I temped at a toy company that made products for the Warner Bros and Disney stores. I bought several mugs with different Warner Bros characters on them. During a cross country move all of them broke but the Tweety Bird mug.

I wish I had a nice pottery mug to use! I guess my current mug, an old plastic one from some now-defunct coffee shop, isn’t my favorite but my “steady.” When I want to feel pampered, I use a real china cup and saucer and brew blueberry green tea with honey purchased from a roadside vendor near Gutenberg, Iowa. Just the right thing for when I have overchallenged myself with yet another knitting project.

My favorite mug I got on a trip to Santa Fe, it is large stoneware with four different owls around the sides. Each owl has a different expression, one is dreamy, one is mad, one is flashing some kind of hand sign (wing sign?) and the last looks overwhelmed. I love the mug because it is big and cozy, and also because my husband jokes that the owls look just like me in all of my various moods (and will point out which owl I am that day whenever I use the mug).

My favorite mugs have to be the one with a black background and little white Hawaiian turtles. I love the Hawaiian turtle pattern even though I’ve never been to Hawaii. My other favorite mug, which I seldom use (due to a fear of damaging it) is one I got while living in New York. It represents a wonderful time I had with a classmate going to a Christmas bazaar at one of the cathedrals on the upper west side. It is a handmade ceramic mug that reminds me of a heart shaped lily pad with a swirly handle. It’s also a very lovely shade of bluish gray. Such wonderful memories.

I have a mug decorated with flying fish on the outside (the inside is tea-stained).
Every time I use it I am tranported back to 1984, when I spent nearly the entire summer in Barbados. I sold my Nikon for the airline ticket and stayed at the house of my boyfriend’s aunt, cooking for her every week night to earn our keep.
We were broke and in love and although I am very happy and content in my current situation, I use this mug and gring, time traveling back 25 years.
If there was ever a fire in my house, I’d grab photos, that one skien of Wollmeise I scored and the flying fish mug.

My favorite mug is tall plastic travel mug. I think it was a give away from westlaw or barbri, or one of the other vendors who hock their goods to law students.
I like it because it doesn’t make the screechy sound if a fingernail accidentally hits against it, and it’s just an all around comfortable cup.

On weekdays when I commute or on long car trips, I use an AutoSeal vacuum mug from Contigo – no spilling, and it keeps my tea hot FOREVER (well, at least for 3 hrs) It’s the best I’ve found. But for when I have a big mug of chai on a relaxing Sunday morning, I always use my loopy mug from the 2nd anniversary package since it’s nice and tall and cheerful.

Mugs for every day and my grandmother’s Blue Willow tea cups 9and saucers) for special days! Tea only! My favourite mug is a pottery one that I bought when we were on holidays in Clear Lake (Manitoba, Canada). It is simple brown tweedy but the minute I saw and held it, I could feel how great it would feel sitting on the deck in the Muskoka chair (Americans call them Adirondack chairs) drinking my tea and watching the dogs and the birds. It doesn’t happen often enough but even when used inside it makes a cup of tea special.
PS. I thought the rug would make a great knitted fabric for a jacket!

My favorite mug is the one I use at work. It was a gift from my Mother who remembered that I said I preferred large mugs. I think it holds around 16 oz and I fill it several times a day with tea. It is a ceramic mug with mountains on it. When I got it, I thought it must be a locally produced product, but I have found similar mugs in many specialty type stores. My sister gave me one by the same company a couple of years ago for Christmas, but I am keeping it in reserve in case anything happens to this one. I like it most for its size, but also that it is comfortable to hold and is dark inside so no one knows how infrequently I clean it.

I have mugs hanging around three huge windows in my kitchen, kind of my own brand of window treatment. This number of mugs, mostly “one-sies” allows me to have a different favorite each week. (There are a few more in the kitchen cabinets, but I don’t count them – I’m afraid to count them. My favorite coffee/tea/hot chocolate cup is an oversized Starbucks mug. Cream with the logo on it. My previous favorite (and current #2) is an oversized white mug with the admonishment “Hell hath no fury like a woman who has sworn off cookies and chocolate.” It was a gift from my ex-husband on the occasion of my quitting smoking. (Actually I had quit 2 weeks prior but at first he didn’t notice and when he finally did, he didn’t say anything for fear I would start smoking again. As if I had forgotten I smoked and he needed to remind me?!?! Arrogance much?!?) The irony is that cookes and chocolate. . . and ice cream and furniture. . . were all being consumed in large quantities (a) to pacify my mouth and brain and hands and (b) to keep me from killing anyone. I still have the cup. The husband is long, long gone.

My favorite mug at work is a very plain blue mug that is kind of an upside-down cone shape (bigger at the top than the bottom). One of my best friends bought it for me at Gloria Jean’s in high school (10 years ago). It’s got a tiny crack from the top edge to the handle, so I have to be careful not to fill it too full.
At home, my favorite is a free mug from the bank! It’s about the same size and shape as my blue one, but with a shiny glaze instead of dull (and of course, the bank’s logo). We have a green one for me and an orange one for my husband.
Unlike everyone else, I don’t really like super big mugs. I’d rather refill more often. Maybe I have weak wrists or something. I like to hold on to my mug with one hand while I type with the other!

I rarely use mugs, though a while back I found myself acquiring a collection of them. Now I limit myself to buying unique and different mugs. I honestly couldn’t tell you which was my favorite. Maybe the dog mug complete with little footprints on the bottom and a stubby little tail (the handle was the nose/mouth). Or maybe the one that had a tiny little unicorn that looked up from the inside. For Halloween, I have a mug shaped like a witches’ cauldron with 3 little legs that prop it up. In recent years, in addition to directing films, he has opened a memorabilia shop/museum in Rome by the name of Profondo Rosso (also the name of what many consider to be his best film).
My sweet stepdaughter, while in Rome, sought this store out and bought a touristy, Dario Argento/Profondo Rosso mug for me.

It is a large blue specled hand made pottery look mug with a single cobalt blue stripe around the rim. At that time the whole set of dishes, mugs, bowls etc. was so ” Hip” looking, so 70’s (i’m really dating myself here!). Kinda funny and sad when I think about what I went thru in different phases of my life while drinking something warm and comforting from that mug. I have 2 favorite mugs and a 3rd that I wish I had…One I use at work and it’s very simple: a white, oversized mug with the logo of the now-defunct “University Club of Rochester” printed on it. It’s followed me from office to office for the last 14 years. I now drink my daily cuppa joe at Mohawk Valley Community College, where I teach as an adjunct and coordinate adjunct instructors throughout the College.
My other favorite is actually a “twin” – one of 2 large mugs given to me at holiday time by a former co-worker. The 2 mugs are brightly painted ceramics, each with a wintry scene. I always drink either hot tea or hot apple cider from it; my spouse uses his for hot chocolate. We think all hot winter drinks taste best in these mugs!
The third mug I wish I had is one that another co-worker had long ago – a well-used white mug with the admonition “Illigitimi non Carborundum” printed on it. What’s that mean? Well, it’s “pidgin Latin” for “Don’t let the bastards wear you down.”
Cheers!

My favorite mug is one that my aunt gave me as a birthday gift. It’s hand painted by a craftswoman named Tracy Porter; it’s dishwasher & microwave safe; it’s pink (my favorite color!) with pretty flowers; and it holds 2 full cups of liquid. She sent it to me with a woven pink cashmere blend blanket & some soothing hot tea, so when I see the mug, I instantly think “cozy” and “relax.”

my all-time fave? I had a friend who was Chairman of the National AIDS Memorial Grove in Golden Gate Park in SF. It’s a plain, tall white mug with the Grove’s logo on the front in green. Len died in 2000, but that mug (which had been on his office desk) remains my favorite. It reminds me of him, keeps his memory alive, and is the most special mug I’ve ever owned. I have a backup – an ancient Taylor & Ng mug that has rabbits all over it, doing…. well, you know…… but that’s another story

My favourite mug is a souvenir from Cher’s Heart of Stone tour. It is black with a stone-like tattoo on it with a dagger going through it. I didn’t get to go the concert (I wish) but I bought it from a shop on St. Laurent Boulevard in Montreal when I was walking down the street one sunny afternoon. It stood alone among 40 or so Yanni mugs and I just knew it was meant to be mine! I had to glue the handle back on it once and the tattoo is a little faded but I just love it! Long Live Cher!

My favorite mug is a tie between two that I have had forever. The first one has a cartoonish duck with a thermometer in it’s beak that says “I left my last job because of illness…..” On the inside rim it says “I was sick of the job.” My other favorite is my Marvin the Martian mug from the Warner Brother’s store way back when they were still around in my neck of the woods. One on side it shows his front view and the other side is his back view. I won the first one in something silly and the other was a gift but they are both bigger mugs that I love to use often.

He has an open house twice a year at which he sells ’seconds’ – so we alwasy go and come back with a new color or a new shape I’ve collected mugs, platters, square bowls. His stuff feels good and the colors are like landscapes. My husband and I have large hands and the mugs just fit in our hands.

I do not have a paying job at the moment (due to health issues) but when I did there was a mug that I absolutely loved. I worked for a housewares company so there were many to pick from. When I got sick, they let me take the mug with me. It really isn’t much to look at it is just a green tempered glass mug that I just love to have my morning tea in. I drink tea and not coffee. Well I then clean it out so that I can have it later on in the day if I want another hot cuppa. I will be devastated if this mug breaks.
(all attachment to one mug)

But my favourite home mug is one that I designed myself on zazzle: it has “this is how I relax” and a picture of knitting needles on one side, and “this is how I roll” and a picture of a 20-sided die on the other side. It’s the ultimate in inside jokes for me and my friends. ^_~

My hubby usually picks up a mug on our travels. But my favorite mug is one we picked up in Newfoundland. It’s a smaller-size mug and has a flatter area on the side of the handle and directly across from it, which is great for gripping it. On the outside, there are colorful images of Eskimo men and women holding a big skin or something to catch a person and inside the mug is an Eskimo flying up in the air (or down to be caught, depending on your perspective). The designer is Marc Tetro, I think. That’s the name on the bottom., which is unglazed and has little bumps so it won’t slip around on your table. It’s just such a cheery mug.

I’ve tossed it around, held it upside down, and had nary a leak. This one is for hot apple cider, sometimes with caramel, always with a dash of cinnamon. I got a black mug with the gold ears for the Disneyland anniversary celebration when they did the gold ears, because I didn’t like the ears themselves. This one is my at work tea mug. I have found that we have quite a mug collection going, as well, but I always seem to reach for the same one that says, “The next person to ask me a dumb question wins a cup of hot coffee in their lap.” Even though it’s from my teaching days about 15 years ago (don’t worry, I never used it in class!), it still makes me snicker each time I see it. I think it’s a confirmation that even when we love someone or something, we can still get frustrated and that’s okay.

My favorite mug is a classic, diner-style mug made by Krispy Kreme. It has that great hour-glass shape–a shape sadly missing from moi, as I ate the donuts as well as buying the mug. The shape makes it nice to snug a hand around as you secure the handle over a thumb or a few fingers. But it’s a bit larger and holds more than the diner mugs of old.

I have a few favorite mugs, mostly because I get them as souveniers when we go places. Currently, though, it’s a toss-up between my Loopy Ewe mug (because it’s so nice and big and holds lots of hot tea) and one that I got a few years ago at an Einstein’s Bagel shop (because it’s such a nice shape for wrapping cold hands around to warm them up).

I HAD a favorite – a handmade giant soup-sized mug. It had beautiful pinecones etched into the glaze. I live in the woods and it just seemed to fit with my “yard”. My 9 year-old daughter dropped it and it became a million little pieces of clay. She felt so bad that she asked me to take her to the holiday craft fair (where I had purchased it years ago) so she could use her own money to get me a new one. We tried, but the artist was not in her “mug phase” at the time. Maybe someday.

My favorite mug is one of two hand thrown pottery semi-tall mugs with “Life” and floral vines scrolled down the side. It has special meaning for me as it belonged to my late mother-in-law, who had to have been the best anyone could have.
A second favorite is a bright red “Seattle’s Best” mug, given to me for Mother’s Day from my daughters, all born in Seattle many years ago.

I like mugs and received 3 great new sheep related ones for christmas this last year. They are made in England by Dunoon and the series is called “Country Morning” and then either telephone, mail or tractor. Each one has a lovely county scene with a small flock of sheep, each mug with a different breed, for instance standing next to a mailbox, or a tractor, etc. If you want to see them Google “Dunoon Country Morning telephone” and that should bring it up. Great for the knitter and sheep lovers!

My favourite mug is the first one I bought with my own money for my first apartment. It’s only been 7 months since I moved in, but it’s still pretty special. It’s not particularly fancy – a white tapered one with black swirls on it. It only cost 5 Danish kr., which is about 80 cents. But it’s mine, and I bought it myself.

My mom is a production potter in the area I live: http://www.glostocktonpottery.com/ She does not do mugs usually, so I have the only mugs she’s ever made in many cases. Somehow a hand-thrown mug, made by mom, heals all ills! Love all kinds of mugs though. The one I go to right now has carved leaves all over it.

My tea drinking is altogether different. I have a special Valentine cup my sister sent me quite a few years ago. The cup itself is shaped like a valentine and is red. When I have tea I think of sitting with her as children drinking our teddy bear tea before bed. Awsome.

Mugs are definitely the way to go for me. My favorite is a handmade one I bought at the Maryland Sheep & Wool Festival several years ago, It’s stoneware, holds 16 oz of coffee. It’s a lovely milk chocolate color with 2 sheep on one side and the barn on the other. The handle is very comfortable to hold and it has a very rustic feel to it. I still have my previous favorite mug which I use when my new one ends up in the dishwasher. I’ve had that one for over 15 years. It was purchased on a family vacation to New England. We took our 4 children on a driving vacation and visited places like Sturbridge Village, Plymouth Plantation, Boston, and Mystic (where I purchased that mug). Also hand made (do you sense a theme here?) and painted, it has a fishing village and flying seagulls and is all in various shades of blue.

I used to have a sort of collection of “favorite” mugs. Then I got a cute mug from a catalog. It was oddly shaped, and had a picture of a purple dragon, sitting up and blowing flames, on each side. The flames met to form a heart of fire. It was so cute! I used it at my desk at work (where I practiced law). Soon after I resigned (retired?) I found a Tinkerbell mug from the Disney Store… it’s really more like a mug and a half, and I loved the extra room for MORE. But this too has taken a back seat to a better mug. My favorite mug. My mug that I love so much I’ll even hand wash it if the dishwasher’s not full.
This mug came, of all places, from Starbucks. I learned about it, and went into the coffee shop from which I rarely buy coffee JUST to get the mug. I’m so glad I did…. It’s the creamy color of a natural Aran sweater, and just a bit wider than the average mug. It holds about a mug and a quarter’s worth of liquid. And it’s embossed with knitted cables. You can see every stitch, though the cable crossings are a tad flat, like someone might have pressed them. It’s just the right size, just the right weight… and makes sure that my knitting is with me whenever I drink coffee… or tea… or cocoa…

The painting is a vase of flowers including some with buds and one flower that has drooped down across the front of the vase. Since I’m left-handed, she made sure to put something on both sides of the mug and the back which I see the most reads “I heart Mom”. My favorite mug is a hand-thrown piece of pottery that I bought at a small boutique in Oak Ridge, TN about 20 years ago. It features a tree in full leaf on the front; predomonantly blue wiht purple, gree and red-purple shading. I love the feel of the smooth glaze on my fingertips. The potter’s name is “carved” (don’t know what term to use?) into the bottom; I can’t read the name, but I can tell that it starts with an “L”. I use this mug every morning for coffee. It holds about 2 regular-sized cups. I sometimes worry that it will break; it is one of my most treasured possessions (if my house were on fire, it is one of the first things I would grab to take with me). The size, weight, position and domfort of its handle are perfectly proportioned to my hand.

For hot chocolate, my gorgeous Otherworld mug is perfect, because I drink hot chocolate when I want something comfortable to sip, and Otherworld is my favorite thing I do all year with my favorite people, so sipping from a mug that reminds me of them is just the thing. I really really love stoneware or hand thrown mugs for just about everything. Especially hand thrown, in warm browns or soothing blue glazes, as there’s something terribly rustic and reassuringly earthy about curling my hands around one and warming my fingers as the heat seeps through. I…like the idea of a teacup, but I also know that most of the ones I have seen are delicate, thin things and I? Am a klutz of the highest order. So it’s all badness when it comes to teacups. My mug right now, becuase I am not just a klutz but also terribly lazy when it comes to dishes? A simple, yet large Charbucks mug with a green, springlike print on it. I look forward to Ostara this year, and continue to stretch and revel in the return of the sun.

My favourite is the ‘ugly mug’. My mother bought it for me on Granville Island in Vancouver. It’s beige speckled with dark brown and shaped free-hand with bulges and strange curves. I can only use it for tea or coffee as the odd shape makes mixing hot chocolate difficult. It’s my comfort mug but a few of my friends love it too and ask for it when they come over. And for the record – I don’t think you have a mug problem. I have over 30 and they all suit different drinks and moods. Trying to stick with one mug is like saying “Why knit another scarf? You already have one!”. I was in Starbucks the other day and they have some new pottery mugs with lovely glazing, I think I might need to add another to my collection!

My favorite mug was made by a friend’s husband. It’s a purpley-burgundy-reddish color. It hold just the right amount of tea/coffee/hot chocolate for me! We actually have a pair, a larger one & smaller one – mine is the smallest. My husband thinks the mugs are brown…don’t know why!

My Loopy Ewe mugs are getting heavy use this week. I’m using them to make my minty tea, it helps my achy throat a lot.
What I really collect are pottery soup mugs. Soup tastes twice as good when it’s in a handmade pottery soup mug!

I enjoy drinking anything in my very large size mug from Starbucks. It’ s the off-white one with a brown ring at the top and Starbucks in large letters on the front. Not much to look at but it fits nicely in your hand, is easy to drink from, is just the right weight and holds lots and lots of coffee, tea, water…..
That’s not to say that I don’t love to look at the other mugs, and they contain so many memories!

My favorite mug is a handmade, wood fired cup I bought at our local Saturday Market. It fits me perfectly!

My favorite is my Queen Diva-Kitty – a large white cup with a 3-d pink diva-cat on the front , heavy eyeliner and wearing a crown, and her tail is the handle. I’m “queen of our office” with it!

I think I’m a bit of a minimalist when it comes to my favorite tea mug. It’s the plain black one that came with my Corelle kitchen set. But it’s the perfect size! And shape! And it’s microwaveable; so when I get into my knitting and forget that I was drinking tea I can reheat

I love drinking my Earl Grey in a souvenir mug from the National Beagle Club Specialty I went to in the fall of 2007. I have many fond memories of that event!

I love mugs. My favorites are, one with a logo of a favorite musician’s tour about 10 or so years ago, and another is from Blue Heaven in Key West, and another is from Reef Relief in Key West. There are others in the cabinet, but those are my 3 faves for coffee.

At work, I have a Wizard of Oz mug that I love. I also have different ones at home that I also like, the starbucks cable knit ones, and a plastic one from NY Sheep and Wool.

My favorite mug is a beautiful deep red mug big enough to eat soup from. It has white washed wintery twigs raised ceramic work. It was given to me as a gift with body products. I have had it for several years. I just love it. It brings me comfort
with soup and oatmeal in the winter for breakfast and coffee thru the day at work.

My favorite mug is one of a pair that I picked up years ago at either Costco or Sam’s Club, that was packaged with a bag of chili mix stuffed inside (I think I threw out the chili mix; I didn’t want that, I wanted the mugs!). One has fruits on the outside, the other has veggies. Not earthshaking, but they’re my favorites because they hold about 32 oz. Since I am not a morning person, and I have to get up for work at 6:30, that much coffee is required.
Now for aesthetic purposes, my favorite is my purple Squashed Fairy Mug, which resides on my desk at work. I got it from this lady, at the Great Pennsic War:

At work, I like to say that we can’t be visited by the Eff-up Fairy, because I squashed her. My colleagues are amused.

Sherry my favorite cups for tea are made by Denby in England. They are oversized and hold about twice as much as a regular tea cup. I have a matching teapot that I adore and rarely use for fear of breaking it.
They are celebrating their 200th anniversary this year. They make awesome stoneware products and I have a huge collection. For coffee – I like to choose one of my Denby mugs – they are so comfortable and feel so good in your hand and they keep items very hot for a long time plus their patterns and glazing are just beautiful quality works of art.

My favorite mug was given to me by a former boss’s sister-in-law. The mug reads “Super Secretary !”. Jessie was actually re-gifting, because she had received it when she was still able to work. Jessie had brain cancer and would walk the two blocks from her home to our office to see her sister-in-law, my boss. Jessie had a great spirit in spite of her illness and walked with a cane — making her weekly journey all the more special.
Within two years of her gift of the mug to me, Jessie passed away in the night with friends and family gathered around – during one of many recent “pajama parties” the girls in the family had been having with her as she lay in a hospital bed brought into her home.
I’m no longer a secretary, but each year’s “Administrative Assistant” day reminds me of Jessie and her sweet and strong spirit and her special gift. And I still have the mug with me, often prompting questions about why I have a “secretaries” mug.
Thanks for asking.

My favorite mug is from “Life is Good” that I picked up at Cabela’s. It’s a lovely shade of pink with a cute red heart and says “Do what you like. Like what you do.” And it’s a nice hefty, curvy solid mug- I love it!

Yesterday I received my new favorite mug. I have been emailing author Barbara Delinsky. She just published a new book entitled “While My Sister Sleeps.” She sent me a mug…just because! I love to know that famous people can be as human as the rest of us. I will cherish the mugs….always!

I have 2 favorite mugs – one is a 10 oz glass mug with the chemical structure of caffeine on it (I am a bit nerdy). The other one is an oversize Starbucks mug my dh brought back for me when he deployed to Kuwait – it’s blue and white with “Kuwait” written all over it.

Boy am I am good company! “Hi my name is Laurie and I am a mug addict!” I do have three favs right now.
For a big drink… my green sheep mug from Spunky Eclectic.
Next, is a hand made blue/white speckled mug that was getting tossed when my office was relocating. Love it!
Current favorite fav is a hand thrown pottery mug I picked up at a vendor fair at the kids school. It gets washed out and put next to the coffeee pot for the next time. Oh I need to get more right now!
