I Love This New Yarn
I am having plenty of time to knit and relax on this trip. (And I continue to photo the flowers.) A few of you have mentioned my numerous blog posts while vacationing and I think you’re worried that I’m not enjoying my vacation. (Or else you’re tired of me blogging. Could be either one.) The funny thing is that it’s easier to blog on vacation, because:
1. We’re doing things that I can talk about and photo. In a typical week, my life is pretty much LoopyLoopyLoopy. Not a whole lot of new and interesting things to blog about. (That doesn’t mean we don’t do anything else, but I don’t think you all need to hear that WH and I went to a movie, or I found an old friend on Facebook, or church was great on Sunday, or we got together for dinner with friends, or I cleaned the house.)
2. I have more time to blog. As I said above, a typical week includes a lot of LoopyLoopyLoopy work.
3. I like keeping in touch with you.
When I’m back in St. Louis, the regular blog schedule will come back. (Hopefully I’ll have yarn news for you that first week back. Lots of yarn enroute.)
Here is the sock that I finished a few days ago. This is one of our new indie dyer lines – String Theory. Someone brought me two skeins of this amazing yarn to the Spring Fling in April, and that’s about all it took for me to get in touch with them. It’s one of those merino/cashmere/nylon yarn bases that we all love, and the colors are just gorgeous. In fact, I carried 4 different colors around with me the afternoon they arrived, because I couldn’t decide which one to use first. I’m in a teal-y mode these days, so this one (Bimini) won. (I left the rest for all of you from this first batch, but I do plan to add to my stash as we get more orders from them. It was beautiful to work with and the sock is so comfortable to wear.) I used the Celebratory Chevrons pattern that Debbie O’Neill designed for our very first anniversary. You can find it in the Free Patterns section of the blog, here. This is the second time that I’ve knit this pattern and it continues to be one of my favorites. (Speaking of the anniversary of The Loopy Ewe – we will again have a fun kit to celebrate our THIRD anniversary, which is in August. We’ll have details of that after we get back from having a booth at The Sock Summit, the first weekend in August.)
The Sneak Up just went up for the week – did you catch it yet? In addition to String Theory, we also added in new colors in Noro Silk Garden Worsted and Kureyon Sock, new colors in Araucania Multi and Semi-Solid, Ella Rae Lace Merino line (which is actually perfect for socks, as well as lace knitting), plus re-stocks in Gale’s Art Black BFL Roving, Lorna’s Laces Shepherd Sock and Wooltop, Dream in Color Smooshy, and Araucania Itata. We also re-stocked The Loopy Ewe clear bags and the GoKnit bags over the weekend. Next week, I’ll tell you about more new lines that are coming soon!

Isn’t the Caper delicious!! I bought some, in one of their Fusion colors- sorta a smokey purple. I’m still tring to decide which pattern to use. I’m thinking Angee by Cookie…think that would be perfect:-)

Your flower photos are beautiful! In fact, I am using one for my desktop so I have something nice to look at while I knit my Girasole!

It’s great to hear you are getting the time to relax that you most certainly deserve, and especially that you are getting to knit. Love your new sock, and the yarn name. My eldest daughter and I have been reading a book on string theory for her science studies and it is so fascinating. Especially now with the yarn connection!

I finished my nephew’s wedding afghan, 2 weeks ahead—woohoo! Now I can cast on for my Girasole. The afghan, Moderne Log Cabin, was fun, but I’m ready to enjoy the lace of the Girasole. BTW, when you enlarge the sock photo, the lichens on the rock above Loopy are really beautiful! I’m jealous—love the mountains, wish I was there! Enjoy.

I’m working on Girasole as well, mostly to keep my fingers from walking over to The Loopy Ewe to buy more yarn. Must…resist…Malabrigo…
Enjoy your vacation. It looks lovely!

Just finished some Angee (Cookie, natch) socks in the sKnitches Kettle Drum from last year’s sock club. Perfect pairing. You would approve.

Finishing up a KAL hat that I’m the last to finish, and hopefully the mobius wrap I started at Spring Fling. My vacation is almost over, so I want them done before I head home.
Glad you’re having a good time! And love the Loopy on vacation picture! I’ve got a few myself to post soon! Enjoy yourself!

Any idea what that flower is ? it’s very pretty.
There is no Girasole for me sadly .. i am in between several pairs of fingerless gloves for daughters and more socks for me because you can never have too many socks right ? Speaking of which i am eyeing off the String Theory yarn and the Araucania yarn right this moment, i can’t decide which i want more

Thanks for all the vacation posts Sheri.
I’m working on a Zetor shawl, a Lizard Ridge afghan, a Temptation Top Down sock in that lovely Aurora colorway I got from you (although knitting two socks at a time is giving me two different color socks so I’m waiting to see the first one done and see if I need to knit this skein from one direction and not from both the inside and outside at the same time).
Then I’m going to cast on for Michelle’s shawl with all that lovely Dream in Color Starry you folks just sent me. I keep drooling over that Chinatown Apple colorway. It is so much prettier in person than in the picture.
Happy knitting!

Isn’t String Theory the most amazing yarn? You will have to carry the T.O.E. and Nexus yarns, too. Absolutely my favorite yarn to work with.
I’m busy on my Butterpeeps Girasole shawl, and trying to teach myself how to knit Continental Style. Ouch, Ouch, Ouch.

I’m so thrilled you picked up String Theory! They’re from my hometown (Blue Hill, Maine) and I love them to death! An excellent choice!!

I am about 1/3 of the way thru a beaded scarf, I am working on a knitted tank top with crochet straps and trim, and after 10 days and 9 attempts, I have finally got the first back hoof of the donkey knitted (being a perfectionist can really be a pain sometimes). Glad to hear that your vacation is so relaxing … have a wonderful time, and thank you for remembering to blog to us … it is the highlight of my day here at work to be able to see what you (and Wendy – of Wendy Knits) are up to.

Ah, happy vacationing.
I’m working on a cross-stitch project that would have been done if I hadn’t taken about 5 days off to just sit and read. I also need to work on cleaning (lots of cleaning), because my inlaws are visiting soon. But not tonight. Tonight I help a friend make jam (sous chef time).

Girasole, Girasole, Girasole. It so interrupted my knitting plan for the year that has been chugging right along. But I’m glad it did – and I’m loving the Malabrigo worsted of which it’s being knit. Now I’m imagining a Malabrigo cardigan….also not on the plan…..

I’m so glad you’re having a good time on vacation and finding time to do things you enjoy, Sheri.
OTNs for me right now is Girasole in DIC Some Summer Sky. I’m up to the 640 stitches chart. It goes really quick until then. Maybe I’m having a mental block due to the number of stitches.
I’ve also got a couple of Anne Hanson shawls going, but Girasole has taken over. And then there is that poor lonely sock for my son. Yes, I’m guilty of 2nd sock syndrome. Must work on 2nd sock. It’s a quick knit and I don’t know why I resist.
Lots of projects lined up. Definitely another Girasole. This one will be in Butter Peeps for my dau for Christmas. Hey, it’s less than 6 months away!
Got some String Theory coming my way. Can’t wait.
Have a great rest of your vacation. The elves are doing a great job holding down Loopy Central.

sounds like you are totally enjoying yourself there girl! I wish you guys would get the Noro Kureyon worsted in. I love silk garden, but the mohair in it doesn’t love me.

Another fan of String Theory chiming in to say I’m thrilled you’ve added them to The Loopy Ewe. I hope you’ll check out their Bamboo Merino – it isn’t listed in the sock yarns but it is a fingering weight that makes fabulous socks. And scarves. Their colors are my absolute favorites.

I like the extra blogging! You’ve got a great ‘voice’!
I’m working on a facecloth for guild, and my Clapotis in Trekking XXL. Maybe I can get it finished and put into the County Fair, and THEN gift it!
Gotta check out the site for reds for future Red Scarves. I saw one in Dream in Color Classy, a really nice red, but the Ravelry listing didn’t include the color name.

I am loving all the extra blog posts. I am working on a pair of socks, a sweater and a Shetland Tea Shawl. Most of my knitting time these days has been taken up by spinning. I am even thinking of starting to save up for a second wheel. I never thought I would want another.
