Shawls, Sales, and a CONTEST!
I love this new Mara Shawl. In fact, I’m such a fan that I have wound up another color of Madelinetosh DK/ Light Worsted (Thunderstorm) to make another one. You know, in between all of my other knitting that
I want to get done. My favorite part of this shawl is the pleated edge (which I did as a K3, P2 instead of what the directions say. Because I can’t leave well enough alone. But I do like it like this.) The color is Cedar and will be perfect for the holidays. That’s another thing I have decided – shawls of varying colors are needed for different seasons.
Here’s Susan modeling her very first shawl! She did the Multnomah and it turned out beautifully. (Please note, Susan has been a scarf and hat knitter up until this point. I have yet to get her to do socks. So this shawl was a first step towards other things!)
She did try to tell me “not for the blog” when I took her photo but I just laughed. (And watch – someone will leave a comment saying, “Sheri, I didn’t know you had colored your hair black and were wearing it short.” All of you blog-picture-scanners crack me up. This is Cute Elf Susan. —->)
We will be taking Thursday and Friday off this week for Thanksgiving (that means no in-person shopping hours this week), but of course the shop is open online, 24/7 as always. In fact, not only is it open online, but we have some fun things going up on sale for you as well. From late Thursday afternoon through Saturday at 11:59 pm (Central), you’ll find 30% off all Cherry Tree Hill, Creatively Dyed, Indie Dyer, J. Knits, and Opal. You’ll also find 20% off all Earthly Hues, All Things Heather, Sknitches, Sugar Bunny Blvd, Noro and Schaefer. *The prices will all change to reflect the sale, so when you see those prices go from black to colored, you know the sale has started.
We have a full team of Elves working on Monday and Tuesday of next week, to make sure that we can get all of your weekend orders out. We’ll also be adding the Monday Update/Sneak Up sometime later than usual on Monday evening.
Tomorrow we’ll be celebrating Thanksgiving here in the U.S. When I make my list of things I’m thankful for, all of your names appear there. We love partnering with you on great yarn, fun patterns, and much encouragement, inspiration, and support. You all keep us on our toes and there’s no place we’d rather be. So consider this a big HUG and thank you to each one of you from each one of us here at Loopy Central. We think you’re just the best, and we wish we could sit down with you in person tomorrow afternoon for some pumpkin pie and knitting!
This month’s contest: Tell us one (or two or three) things that you’re thankful for, whether you’re in the U.S. and celebrating Thanksgiving tomorrow, or not! We’ll draw names from the comments for fun prizes next week.
Back to shawls – how can you not love those pleats? Just too fun. I hope you make one of these for yourself.
Sheri headingoutforlunchwithCollegeGirlbeforesettlinginforsomeknitting

I’m thankful for many things – the things I think of every day with this horrible economy and 2 wars is that I am thankful that my family has found a way to sustain itself in a way that allows both my husband and me time to be fully involved with our children’s education instead of trying to put everything in the hands of others. We have a each other, a nice, cozy modest home with working autos, and healthy food to eat. We are truly grateful.

Oooh, that’s a very lovely shawl! I have Multnomah on the needles too, though I think I might rip it out and try it on a smaller size.
I’m thankful that I have such great friends, and the best mother in the world! Though alas, I’m not in Washington with her, I’m in Lousiana at university with my friends, trying to do Thanksgiving in a tiny kitchen. (There is no turkey. There is, however, going to be fettuccini, because I make great fettuccini alfredo.)

I am thankful for my children’s health and happiness (not really children 24 and 20 and have had health issues with the 20 yr. old so I know how scarry it can be). And for my family with whom we spend every Thanksgiving with and are fortunate to all be working and healthy as well. I am thankful for my friends who are always there when I need an ear to listen to me, sholder to cry on or a brain to pick when I get into troubles with a pattern…lol I am also thankful that I still have my job and health so that I can continue to afford all of this lovely yarn. I’m thankful for the wonderful friends I have made on Ravelry, who helped me through such a rough time this year, and kept me laughing, and sometimes cried with me or were just there to listen. The fact that so many people I have never met did so much to hold me up with notes, cards gifts and phone calls was so wonderful. It helped me get through, knowing I had all these wonderful people for friends.

I’ve been thinking lately about the gift of hand-making passed on to me throughout the generations of women in my family. Knitting, cooking… special touches and the pride of doing things well – whatever it is. There are many things I’ve thankful for, but the strength and love in my family is foremost.
Don’t think my 16-year old DD is aware of all this yet….

I’m thankful for unexpected invitations and long car rides with dogs. I’m thankful I have enough and more besides so I can help people who need it. I’m thankful I have a great yarn pusher in you, Sheri. I’m thankful for just about everything I have, I guess.
Except for dust. That I can do without. .

Beautiful shawls! I love that green of the Cedar…very pretty colorway.
I am thankful for many things. I am thakful for my wonderful husband and sons, my sister and her family, and the fact that I still have both of my parents. I am thankful that even with the bad economy and the fact that our business revenues are way down ( a biggie when you and your spouse are both involved in your family business without outside employment) we have been able to make it this year. I am thankful for my stash, so that even when I can’t buy any yarn I can still knit…..although there does often seem to be just enough extra to make a small purchase (and I am grateful for that as well).
Happy Thanksgiving!

I am thankful for my family and that no matter how far we are apart we are always home for Christmas.
I am incredibly thankful for my husband who has somehow managed to make it all work this year.
I am thankful for the new friends I am made through knitting. I am incredibly thankful for the confidence and inspiration gained through them. I’m so thankful that I get to visit with you and the elves often, you have no idea what a spirit lifter that is.
Most of all, I am so incredibly thankful for one last Christmas with my dad. He has defied the odds and hung on for a year and a half more than his doctors thought he would. I am so thankful that he is my dad and for all of the wonderful lessons he taught through his actions and for his unwavering love and support through the years.

3. Am thankful for having today AND tomorrow off -was much needed.
4. Am thankful I found Sheri’s recipe for that wonderful chicken pot pie – I remembered printing it up and finally remembered where I put it – the pot pie is in the oven as I write this. Will be making it again when my son’s fiance to be and her father come for dinner in 2 weeks. May make one of Sheri’s chocolate peanut butter desserts too.

I am thankful for the health of my family and the love we show towards each other.
I know it might seem usual but in the last years my sister had stage 4 Non-hodgkins Lymphoma and I had DVT. My sister is 8 yrs out from a bone marrow transplant that was to have taken place on 9/11/2001. Due to circumstances it actually took place two weeks earlier. We were lucky that there was a donor. There are 7 siblings and none of us matched her. But while we were trying to find a match there were brothers who would fly in just to direct donate blood and direct donate platelets. My husband was direct donating platelets because at the same time that she was going through all this I was diagnosed with DVT. I have been able to maintain a level so far.
My sister is now 8 yrs out and the mother of a little girl adopted from China who is named after the young woman who donated bone marrow.

I’m thankful that I have such a fantastic family, and that I’m actually looking forward to spending Thanksgiving with them! (I’ve heard soooo many family horror stories from folks who dread the holidays…ick!) I’m also thankful for the joys of knitting, which keeps me sane even in this horrid recession. Finally, I’m thankful for my lovely stash, which means I get to keep knitting, even if I’m too broke to buy any more yarn! Woo for stashes!
Btw, I’ve been meaning to ask you if you’re going to order any of the new Malabrigo Twist. I’ve got one skein of it, and ooooooooh, it’s nice! I do hope you’ll get some in the future!

I’m thankful for friends and my family of choice, for my loving animals who complete my life. I’m thankful that even though I don’t have alot of money, I am in a position that I was able to buy dog food for someone who was going to have to give up his dog because he couldn’t afford to feed him. So I may miss out on some yarn-it would devaste me to lose my animals, and no one should have to make that choice.

It’s been a tough year – I know I am incredibly blessed with family and friends who have supported me. I have an amazing daughter who does incredible things despite chronic health problems. She picked a great man to marry, and it is wonderful to have him in the family.
I have a good and stable job that I love. I have pets that entertain and comfort me. I can afford to support myself and even buy enough (more than enough) yarn to keep me busy and productive. This summer I found a local knitting group and have made more good friends – love seeing them each week.
I wouldn’t have said this last year, but now I know I have been blessed abundantly, and I am overwhelmingly grateful.

Actually, I’m thankful that the year is almost over. It’s been a really tough one here at my house. My father-in-law died, my dog died, my dad should have died but was given a miracle and is still with us. I almost died myself but six months of pharmaceuticals and one major surgery later I’m still kicking. I will be very happy to see the new year ring in. In that vein, I’m thankful that we are all (well, minus my FIL) still here and all in reasonable good health. At this point in the Year of Awful it seems like too much to ask for anything more!

My now almost 4 month old was born 3 weeks early via C-section and was rushed to a NICU 45 minutes away. He had Primary Pulmonary Hypertension, earlier known as Persistent Fetal Circulation. He also had two pneumothoraces, otherwise known as both lungs being “collapsed”. It was very touch and go, and we were prepared by doctors for the worst scenario. I was not allowed to hold or touch him for the first two weeks of his life. He was on a ventilator for about 2 weeks, fed via IVs for one, then a feeding tube for another week. In all, he was in the NICU for a little over 3 weeks.
So this Thanksgiving, I am thankful that I have a beautiful baby boy who survived a tough beginning. Other than scars from chest tubes, he has no other lasting problems. Every day I get to enjoy his smiles and every night that I rock him to sleep is special, and for that I am thankful.

This may seem cliche, but I am really so thankful for my wonderful husband.
This Thanksgiving is our first one as a married couple, and also the first one with out my mother. My mother died a month after me and my husband got married, and this holiday is an especially difficult time for us. I was content to order Chinese food on Thursday and spend the day in my pajamas, but my husband insisted that he cook Thanksgiving dinner this year. It just goes to show that sometimes we need a good partner to help pick up the pieces and glue them back together when you can’t.
I hope that you and your family have an amazing Thanksgiving this year!

Happy Thanksgiving to your family.
I am thankful for being able to speak and walk freely in our country. I am also thankful that God got me through 2 surgeries on my knee and that I did not lose my leg as was planned and that they got all the cancer. I am thankful for my husband, my 2 boys, their wives and my 2 grandchildren, without them life would not be fun anymore. I am thankful that my mother is now in heaven with God and not suffering anymore on this earth, and I am thankful just to be able to be around everyone this year and eat lots of turkey and pumpkin pies.

I don’t celebrate Thanksgiving since I’m in Denmark, but I’ms till thankful for a lot of things! Right now I’m thankful for my preserved sanity even though things are crazy around here. I’m especially thankful for the Twilight books – though not terribly well-written, the story has completely commanded my attention and keeps me from driving myself nuts with exam stress. (It DOES mean that I read more than I study, but somehow that doesn’t matter…) I’m thankful for my lovely boyfriend who’s stuck with me this past very difficult year, and for my family supporting me as well. I’m thankful especially for my little brother who’s taught me how to play Guitar Hero and who comforts me in his own special way. And I’m thankful for my best friends, just for being who they are.

I am thankful for the incredible renaissance in knitting that has happened in the past several years and to the amazing community of people, from sheep to skein, who have made it possible. Knitting has a long and enduring history, but there is something special about this latest recreation of the craft. I am so thankful for all the things that it brings: meditative quiet times, community and friends, absolute beauty, visual and tactile, and most of all working and making with one’s own hands.

this past year Husband has been laid off from a good job, and we still had plenty of money for the things we needed, and he always seemed to have work of some kind.
that I have my grandfather at the age of 97 and a great grandfather at the age of 99 and both doing really well.
that Husband found a job that seems custom fit for him and he loves. that is a big blessing as its not fun to see the love of you life wonder why this is happing and a ill job.

I live in the US, but I’m the product of people that immigrated from Vilnius, Lithuania and Grodno, Belarus. I married a man from Portsmouth, England and just spent a wonderful week with his sister and her middle son from Edinburgh, Scotland. My youngest daughter lives in Nagoya, Japan and my son and DIL have left to visit the place where he spent a year in college – Sydney, Australia. The world is getting smaller, but sometimes seems SO big when the ones you love are so far away.
I am proud to be part of such a diverse family but wish that once – just once, we could all be in the same place at the same time.
I am thankful for each and every one of them! For those of you who are blessed to have your family close this holiday season – enjoy!

my puppy, Rebel. he climbed into my lap yesterday, all 125 lbs of him, and pestered me until i realized that he was trying to tell me that something was wrong in the house. one of the gas knobs on our stove had been turned on and not lit, and finally got up to look around and smelled the gas fumes in time to keep us from exploding. we wouldn’t have had the time to recognize the smell or get headaches from the fumes as we had a roaring fire going in the woodstove in the den. and he’s the one we call “the uncomplicated puppy” because he’s usually not the brightest light on the christmas tree.our other dog, sherman, the “genius” puppy, was in the bed taking a little cat nap at the time and midnight was outside, so we owe our lives to rebel.

To begin with I am very thankful I have skills I can share with joy.
I know of no other way to do this then to list what I am thankful for….So here goes.
(The order is not by importance, but how they pop in my head)
1. Family, this includes fur-faces too.
2. Friends, our lives would not be so incredibly rich without them.
3. Fiber and yarn and the glorious textures and colors they come in.
4. Good food (and wine)
5. A realization that time is a gift and limited.
6. An abundance of teachers in my life.
7. Nature that surrounds us with colors and contrast in the sunrises to begin our days and sunsets as we end them.
8. Getting a reservation when you really need/want it!

I’m thankful for a lot of things, I’ll just mention a few. One is my children – in general, and also more specifically for their attitude towards others. They are both considerate and kind to others. This shows in the way they behave towards friends and family, but also in their sense of responibility or solidarity. A coulple of Christmas related examples illustrate this. My thirteen-year-old still wants the advent calendar that I embroidered when his older brother was small, up on the wall where it always hangs, and explicitly stated that he wants some of the presents there to be symbolic dollars to be used for micro-loans with kiva.org. (We have done this for some years now). My twenty-year-old who is away at university called home today to say that he didn’t want any Christmas presents, he wanted me to donate the money that I had planned to spend, to various charities. (He agreed that presents already bought plus homemande socks were OK too.)
In addition to this, I am grateful for my economic situation and my very nice colleagues. And definitely for my SO – we have been together for six years, and can still have breakfast for hours during the weekend just talking and talking.

I’m thankful for my two jobs (even though I really want to quit one) and that they allow me to indulge in my hobbies, help others and made it possible for me to afford my new car after mine was totaled. And that I walked away from that accident with as minor of injuries as possible.

Gorgeous Maras! I can’t wait to cast one on after all of this Christmas knitting is over with…
This year has been quite trying… After losing my job and finding out about dear loved ones’ medical problems (tumors, and quite a few of them.) I’m happy to still have them with me, and fighting tooth and nail for their health (and peace of mind.)
My best friend, who has been trying to conceive all year, just had an ovary removed due to cancerous cells found on it. And today, she just received a clean bill of health from her doctor. Every day, I thank the heavens that she’s still here. And kicking this thing’s butt.
My cousin, who is like my sister–and the one I’ve been knitting for pretty much all year since I found out about her condition– is fighting a brain tumor. Which, fortunately, is still contained. We had a scare a few weeks ago and thought she would have to have surgery, but it turned out to be a huge misunderstanding with her hospital. She’s still doing alright and fighting it. She lives across the country and all our family is here. So we’re all especially worried. Luckily for her, she receives the bounty of my worry. Socks, scarves and hats.
I decided to pursue a new career path and am working towards it. I’ve already got jobs lined up once I get my certifications in order and this next year brings promise. Not despite the hardship, but because of it, I’m thankful for this trial-of-a-year. Without the strain, I wouldn’t have been able to obtain this sense of certainty and direction.
This post is lengthy, but I have a lot to be thankful for this year.

I am thankful that Jesus died for me so that I may have victory in Him. I am also grateful for my 4 wonderful children; they test and change me everyday. I am also thankful for learning this wonder art of knitting. WHen I need to get away and relax, I pick up my needles and away I go into another place!!!!!

I am thankful for my wonderful vacation to Walt Disney World, which, even though it made me miss the sales last week, let me spend a fun time with my family!

I’m thankful for my CIF’s (creepy internet friends) who knit my baby-to-be a whole slewful of things–who would have thought that when I taught myself to knit from a book I’d end up with friends who would knit for me?

This Thanksgiving, I was able to visit my family up, in Northern California, and I would have to say I am thankful for all of them.
I am 100% a Daddy’s girl… and to be able to spend time with his family means the world to me. Especially my Farmor (grandmother), of which she was the one that taught me to knit, and I always bring up some of my recent knitting to show her. So for this Thanksgiving I was thankful for my family and everyone/everything that comes with it.
