Tomorrow night we have our LYS Christmas Party. We all bring a dish to pass and a white elephant gift. Last year my friend knitted a white elephant---and I got it! Love it! I'm going to make this bundt cake for the party -- we all love chocolate, in addition to knitting. Thanks for sharing it again, Sheri!

I have befriended a lady that is in jail. I try to visit her for an hour each week and take her books to occupy her time. I've been trying to help her 16 year old daughter. I am so thankful that I have the freedoms I have, after a visit to the jail. Our Bible study, that I lead, took up an offering so she can have funds in the jail commissary.

I am a bit behind in my blog reading but one of my knitter friends told me that I had to come here and share my story of a Random Act of Kindness -- I didn't even know about the contest. I was riding the metro downtown to the hockey arena on Friday night to catch the game. I just made the train, so ended up sitting in the middle as opposed to the front car (which is usually much less crowded). At the next stop someone got on and started talking to me (an unusual thing on the DC metro as there is an unwritten rule of no talking to strangers especially if you aren't seated next to them and it isn't a late train after a night out -- this was still commuter time) which made everyone a bit more friendly. We talked about hockey, course. Soon the car began to fill up with commuters and hockey fans, both. Then we heard a cowbell (thanks SNL) and a older bearded "gentleman" came down the aisle in a wheel chair. He had a box for pan handling and a sign that said "vet". I don't know if he was actually homeless, but his circumstances as could be read from his appearance weren't great. But he wasn't asking for money he was just chatting about hockey as well, he was heading down to the arena -- just inside the glass doors they have a huge TV where they broadcast the internal (not TV feeds) of the game and he watches most games there -- he mentioned he would go in if he could get a ticket. Well, I happened to have an extra and after he chatted with riders for a while, I asked if he really wanted one and gave him my extra. He commented that this was better then any amount of money I could have given him. He continued to work his way down the aisle and chat and then came back and said "Ma'am this ticket says $50, that is too much" but I insisted that I wouldn't be using it and that he should take it. He thanked me profusely, complimented anyone around me who may have been associated with me and went on his way to the hockey game (which the Caps won).

Just a quick tip for those chocolate chips, if you coat them in flour then they will not stay at the bottom but float throughout the cake. Give it a try and let me know what you think. Thanks for your wonderful blog. Those RAK's are a great idea at this time of the year. Happy HOlidays

Just returned home tonight from spending the week with my mother-in-law (she is also a knitter). Made her breakfast each morning and alternated making a late lunch or taking her out to an early dinner. Just spent a lot of time sitting with her and listening. Never had much luck getting involved with community projects... my application gets lost... they fill the ranks before my name comes up... I think the message for me is that charity begins at home! There are people in my own family that need special attention and I need to make the time to be there for them.

Hi, the RAK is a great idea all year long. My story is about my husband, he bought blankets last year and handed them out in a poorer part of town by the Salvation Army. He said he was apprehensive about the bill he was going to get for the blankets but when the bill came in, the money was there. So this week even though money is tight, he and one of our daughters handed out 100 hats and gloves within about 5 minutes in the same area. He said the look on some of their faces warmed him as much as the hats and gloves did the people.
