Whoopie Pies & Random Thoughts
1. Thanks to an overabundance of TV watching lately (thank you , Olympics), I feel that if I hear the song “Give me that fish. Give me back that fillet-o-fish” one more time, I might have to go push the golden arches over by hand. Enough already.
2. I have three projects that I really want to work on this weekend. A stealth project, one of the patterns from the sock club kit that we sent out this week, and my Mountain Colors Crazyfoot sock (line to appear here at Loopy soon!). Not to be confused with the other projects that I also have on needles at the moment. Way more than these three. I’m so fickle.
3. I don’t believe I have shared a recipe containing peanut butter since November 13th. Clearly I am overdue for another one. And these are really really good. Recipe adapted from Martha’s Cookie Recipe Book. It’s filled with great recipes.
Whoopie Pies with Peanut Butter Filling
3 1/2 cups all purpose flour
1 1/2 cups unsweetened cocoa powder
1 Tbl. baking soda
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, room temperature
2 cups sugar
2 cups buttermilk, room temperature
2 eggs
2 tsp. vanilla extract
Filling:
1 1/2 cups creamy peanut butter
1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, room temperature
1 1/2 cups confectioner’s sugar
1/2 tsp coarse salt
Scoop about 2 heaping Tbl. of dough onto baking stone. These will spread as they cook, so leave room around each ball. Bake cookies at 400 degrees for 8 minutes. Let cool on wire racks. When completely cool, spread filling on one side and make a sandwich.
Store in the fridge, covered (or individually wrapped). They taste best at room temperature, so let them sit out for a half hour or so, before serving.
4. I use the Elves as a testing ground for recipes. Well actually, I use WH for the testing, and then I bring the rest in for the Elves to sample so that it’s not sitting at home, tempting me any longer. It’s a good system.
So – here’s a question for you. I want to work on 3 different projects this weekend. How many are you going to work on throughout the weekend? One? Two? Ten?

I have 2 sweaters I need to finish, so I’m knitting 20 rows on each one every day. Then will start a new sock and 2 shawls going at the same time. My husband is watching lots of basketball so it’s perfect! This way I can keep ordering yarn.

I have 3 small shawls on the go which saw no work during the Knitting Olympics not to mention about 6-8 socks in varying stages which need attention.
I totally agree about the fish song — way toooooooooooooo much already!
Enjoy the weekend & enjoy your knitting.

I decided to take a quick break from medical claims and there was your new post!
I’ll be lucky to get in one project–I started a Mara shawl 3/1/10 and since it’s green, I want to wear it on St. Patrick’s Day! Since I’m not the fastest knitter, it’s a stretch plus work….will my doctor daughter understand if I don’t finish my work but do finish my shawl???
My friends who knit continental style go much faster than I do. I wonder how many Loopy people knit English or Continental?
I also wonder: will Sheri be able to do “belated Valentine” kits for those of us who still are sad about missing them?
Regardless, good luck on your projects this weekend.

Three projects: a peddlers shawl (worsted weight), Wendy’s Seaside Shawlette, and a Lace of Estonia scarf using Schaffer Anne yarn. I like to have different weight projects going to keep it interesting Oh yes – and i always have a sock on the needles.

I think I would rather listen to the McDonald’s commercial than another “Five dollar foot long” Subway commercial…That makes me want to blow up my television.
Two projects for this weekend…Wendy’s Asparagus Cable sock, heel and leg remaining on the second sock, and a sweater that is about 70% done. I have about 30 more projects that I want to start (and plenty more on the needles to finish) but I’m not letting myself start anything else until I finish these two. (Well…at least one of them…)

One… almost done with Mara. Can’t wait for my 24″ needles to arrive. I’m at the last part of the pleats and it’s all crammed onto a 16″.
As a kid, my Mom always said I started things and never finished anything. As an adult I consciously stick with it until I’ve finished. Thanks Mom!

I am hping to finish Ishbel this weekend. I want to wear it to Maryland Sheep & Wool…yes I know it isn’t until May 1 BUT I am getting a Golden Retriever puppy on March 27 so I predict no knitting for a while after his arrival…at least no lace knitting. I have some dishcloths to finish for our Golden rescue’s sales table at a crafts fair, and am working on a sock. The sock will probably be the last on the list for this weekend.

I have 3 or possibly 4 that I’ll work on this weekend. My family is coming out to Colorado to visit next weekend and my mom’s birthday present from last year (yes, I am a bad daughter) has been languishing on the needles. I must finish the felted clogs this weekend! I also owe my niece a Koolhass hat and I have some plain vanilla socks that I want to get off the needles. Then, of course, there are about 50 skeins of yarn that are screaming at me to be cast on and I haven’t even mentioned the spinning projects. Sigh. Weekends are too short.

Two or three. I’m finishing up a leftover Ravelympics project, a thrummed headband, finishing a pair of French Press slippers and hopefully starting a shawl for Easter.
For some bazaar reason, the Filet o’ fish commercial doesn’t bother me, but, it does get stuck in my head. I love the expressions on the guys faces in this years commercial.

And I want to make some mitts as a little thank-you for our CIO’s assistant–she’s just a gem and she deserves a little gifty for all I ask from her. What will I actually work on? Maybe the mitts tomorrow night while I’m watching our local Saturday night monster movie guy. Anyone else hooked on Svengoolie?

I’ve been working on 3 projects lately. Hopefully, each of them will get some attention this weekend. The first is a star-shaped, crocheted afghan that is a gift for a friend’s new baby boy. The second is a pair of socks for myself for St. Patrick’s Day. The pattern is Brigit, and I am loving these socks. I am knitting them using magic loop for the first time, and I learned the Norwegian purling technique. It might just be the thing that helps me make the switch to Continental! These socks are hard to put down right now. My third project is a Miralda’s Triangular Shawl from Knitted Lace of Estonia. I try to always have a bit of lace on the needles, and I love this book. Enjoy your weekend knitting!

My mom and I get a kick out of the Travelers Insurance dog who’s worried, worried, worried about his bone. That can get a little old, though.
I have two shawls currently under construction and I’ll probably take a stab at both of them. One is freshly started made out of Lisa Souza’s Baby Alpaca Sport and it’s a new pattern I got from her (and the yarn — “Emerald City” colorway) at Stitches West last week. The other is a Cascading Leaves shawl in the heavier Ultra Alpaca Light, Peat colorway. The green heather is so lush looking I almost fall into the forest if I’m not careful!
Then there’s the half dozen socks on the needles….Always something!

Then there’s the Jiffy Triangle Scarf…the Thick & Quick Scarf…oh, and since it’s March, I need to knock off another wedge of the Christmas Tree Skirt. At this rate, I’ll have it done by…oh…September. I also tend to keep dishcloth making stuff with me when I go to work so I have something small to do while waiting…

Guess what I had for lunch today? Yup, Filet o Fish! With cheese no sauce.
As for knitting, I want to finish hubby’s scarf and teach myself to knit toe up socks. If I do learn, then I have some mini mochi in the stash for socks. Then there is the yarn I bought for the Olympic Hat.
I hope to have time for knitting this weekend but it will have to wait until evening. My daughter has basketball playoffs this weekend. Game Saturday for sure and maybe one in the afternoon. Or maybe one on Sunday. Not able to knit at the games because it is one of my own playing.

Sheri, a couple of nights ago, I sat down and did an Excel spreadsheet for all the knitting time I have in a week to try and make sense out of my pile of WIPs. If my goal is to knit two pairs socks a month, then obviously, I need at least 15 of the 30 hours of knitting a week to be socks, right? (It takes me 30 hours to do one pair.)
I’m STILL working on the two (yes, two) Girasoles from LAST year – and will be knitting the delicate Malabrigo Lace one this weekend, plus a sweater I cast on three years ago, at least four different scarves and yes, at least three different pairs of socks.
By the end of the year I’m going to have it down to no more than 7 projects ongoing at once.
My husband, Frank, doesn’t see anything strange about any of this – but that may be because one of those pairs of socks are for him.

Your recipe looks so good–It’s too bad that there’s not a catchy phrase for whoopie pies–Let’s see, “Give me that Whoppie Pie-Give me that Pie”… works for me!
I have my Olympic Hat (posted on Ravelry) that I’m working on for DH. I’ve got the Moose part halfway done and want to finish it this weekend. I’ve cast on for a new scarf, but I’m going to frog it ‘cuz the knit doesn’t fit the yarn–Hand Maiden Swiss, and I’m not wasting cashmere on something that’s not knock out gorgeous! And I really want to start another pair of socks as I just acquired “see through” shoes that show off nicely knit socks! So, I’ll be busy. Can’t wait for Tuesday as I taking off Tuesday ot knit all day. My boss thinks I’m crazy (shhhhh… don’t tell him).

I think it will be 3. DH wants to go to the MN vs WI hockey game tonight (don’t think I want to work on shawl if I am on a beading row @ hockey game), then there is knitting for mil’s (most conversation doesn’t involve me), and then there is at home knitting that can be complicated and/or with beads … I think it is time to go find some TLE chocolate kisses and coffee …

At the moment, my knitting seems to have sorted itself into upstairs-knitting and downnstairs-knitting. Upstairs, in my office, on my desk, right next to me, right now: the start of a Traveling Woman Shawl and the couple of inches worth of Stora Dinum Shawl.Downstairs: A pair of Smoking Socks and a Gaelic Mist sweater. (Polite guests would point out that swatch I’ve started for another sweater). This weekend, I think I’m going to focus on the shawls. Maybe I’ll keep one upstairs and move the other one downstairs. That way, I’ll be able to work on one or the other where ever I am. Of course, I also have to do laundry. Should I put a project in the basement too, just in case?

Very strangely for me (because I’m normally the most non-monogamous knitter you have ever met), only one project — my not-finished Ravelympics sweater. I’m on the last sleeve; my pace has slowed down since I missed the deadline, but I really do want to get it finished before I go back to my usual flighty ways. I’m afraid if I put it down now, it’ll go the way of so many projects — sit there and collect dust until, someday well down the road, I rediscover it and frog it out of sheer disgust with myself.

I had every intention of starting my second Swirls pattern sock in the Lorna’s Laces Butterscotch color BUT I got sidetracked into knitting one beret and then I remembered I had some green wool/alpaca yarn in a pretty green and wanted to knit that for St. Patrick’s Day (a quick knit – but the blocked beret takes a while to dry because you block it on a dinner plate and it slows the drying /blocking down a bit) But I usually only work on one project at a time – or it makes me feel overwhelmed. I like the feeling of finishing what I start – one project at a time- just the way I am

First I need to get the other projects out from their hidey-hole. I put away a *few* projects to concentrate on the Ravelympics projects. Now that’s over, so everyone can come out to visit in the same basket and make me feel guilty.
My rule is to work at least one row of every project every day, excepting the emergency sock knitting in the car. I did four rows on that today, while youngest was in Slackers.
1. This weekend: Nova Scotia yarn sweater (smells so good and is so lanoliny!)
2. 2nd sock from Cat Bordhi’s book-a Sky sock out of Old Rose (hmmm Cherry Tree Hill? I got it from TLE)
3. Heart lace scarf of Cherry Tree Hill Gingersnap (love it!)
I am researching the best yarns for prayer shawls; got a ton of info from a lady in yoga class. Never thought of this: people make prayer shawls too big for wheelchair bound people. Also, very few shawls made for men (!) So that is my new thing.
A trip to Soulard Farmers Market and Crown Candy for lunch and Easter goodies with DH. Fish club meeting at night.

Sheri, I have two projects going. One is a Sensational Shirttail, a great Aran jacket. I’m also working on a circular shawl from the Scarlette Fleece. I’ll wear it as a head cover/scarf. The aran project is great fun because it’s a large gauge, so it goes quickly and the pattern is easy to remember. I’ve recently been blessed with getting a job after serveral months of being laid off. We’ve relocated to Alexandria, VA from Richmond so I’m now in Wendy Johnson’s neck of the woods! I’m looking forward to being able to do a little shopping at TLE soon;:>

I have 2 projects that I must work on for 1/2 hour each before I can get to “what I really want to knit”. It is the only way I will ever finish anything I start on NORO and the only way I will ever finish some of the longer, tedious, well actually, anything I start. Finishing is not the ultimate goal for me and counting the projects I have going is sort of a waste of time. My New Year’s resolution to eat more cookie dough is cruising through the year with me; the resolution to not start a new project until I have finished one is sadly no longer a priority. It’s just to much fun to dream, shop, purchase, cast on, do a bit and then repeat.

I came home from a concert Tuesday night of the world class chorus Chanticleer. Such beautiful sounds. The first thing I heard inside my door was that dreadful “Give me back my filet o’fish…” Wanted to scream.
I have three projects going, too. A sock that I’m not too excited about. A lace shawl that just needs the last short side border finished and a good blocking. A simple scarf out of my own handspun and dye job. Can’t say enough about that scarf. I’m so proud of the yarn and the dyeing.
Also, trying to exercise daily has really cut into my knitting and spinning time available. Something’s got to give. Wish it could be the job.

I am working on a to finish sleeves for my Einstein jacket and also starting a baby blanket. If I get a chance I’d also like to do some work on a cross-stitch Christmas stocking.
Since the knit/stitch Saturday lunch is at my house I am sure I’ll be tempted to add something new to my project lists when I see what the other girls are working on!

I SHOULD work on just one project, but there are two more on the needles that might tempt me off the straight and narrow. Not to mention the two shawlettes and the scarf that I’m just dying to start on as soon as I clear this one project. AND we just had snow (again!) so I could easily justify any quantity of knitting….
Thanks for the recipe, looks yummy!

I have the weekend off (yippee!) and I’ll be working on two projects….socks for me and a hat for a gift.

I’m working on my KAL sweater for sure, which I’ve very much enjoyed knitting so far… but this may be because it hasn’t gotten too complicated yet! Should work on my socks (which have failed to become a pair at this point), and I was kind of thinking starting a third project but I keep waffling about what I want to start (a hat or a pair of fingerless gloves).
So, long story short (too late!), definitely one project. And I should eat some waffles, I’m hungry!

I need to get my Teosinte socks off the needles because I’m expecting a huge Loopy Ewe order next week and can’t wait to start some more sock projects!!!!

I’m going to a yarn tasting at an LYS – so I’m going to play with many yarns while my WIPS languish! LOL!

Although I have many projects on the needles thanks to a crippling case of startitis, I’ll be working on a crochet shawl for my mom, Colonnade for moi and if I’m really ambitious, I’ll be putting all the pieces of a cardigan together.

This weekend I’m going to work on a cardigan I’ve had on the needles for over a year, a child’s pullover that’s close to being finished and do some quilting. I have a sock project in the queue that I’m dying to start but want at least least one of my WIP’s done before casting on.

Couldn’t believe it when I saw your post. I had just returned from a trip to town to do the weekly shopping and for some reason the car just found it’s way to the drive up window. Yep, you guessed it Filet of Fish. Now I know why! I feel sooo much better now! Thought I was the only one who had so many unfinished projects that I couldn’t decide which one to work on. Recently found a pattern for a vest that I am dying to make for myself. Seems like I never have time to do that any more. Anyway I made up my mind to finish at least two of the projects I already have started. So for me it will be two sweaters that I have started for the grand kids and perhaps get a start on a pair of socks. Only have 5 more pair to make before Christmas. Plus 4 scarf and hat sets. Figure I better get started, after all Christmas will be here before you know it!

well……I still have this song in my head, it has been at least 15 hours since I read the original post. Thought I lost my mind when I woke up singing this song…..HA!HA! tried to sing “over the rainbow” but nothing is working! And yes! Had fish last night! Will it go away?

I will be working on a sock and a Mondo Cable Cardi for a knit a long. I am not sure about using the socks for my work lunch project so I may cast on a baby gift to work on during lunch.

Well, it was going to be just one (finishing my multnomah), but now it might just have to be 2 after seeing the sock club shipment!!!
Have a great weekend and hope the sun is shining in Loopy Land!!

Shari,
Sorry to tell you this but we’re probably gonna see that commercial until lent is over. It was funny the first 10 times, after that it got old.
I’m gonna try to finish all those WIP’s I have. I frogged 2 this morning. THey just weren’t right. I wanted to cast the yarn right back on, But I just don’t have the right project. Although the sun shine makes me want a spring sweater. I’ll start that right after I finsh something. Well, Maybe, I could start that now, I don’t really need a sweater dress in worsted . Yes I do, I just found my blazers.
Back to the knitting.

I’m working on my sweater for the weekend. (It doesn’t leave me much time considering I cast on on the 28th of feb. -_-)
As for the ear worm, I heard if you listen to “Cold Hearted Snake” by Paula Abdul, it gets rig of the song in your head.

thank goodness our NBC affiliate did not air that commercial!!! Of course, I DVRed a lot of stuff and could fast forward. I’m doing not-quite-spring cleaning today and have already worked on 2 projects yesterday. The Oregon cardigan will probably be awakened either tonight or tomorrow night. So that means 3 projects. Thanks for sharing the whoopie pie recipe they look yummy. Since my kitchen will be clean in about another hour. I probably won’t be doing any cooking for a few days. I hate to mess up a perfectly good clean kitchen.

Saturday afternoon, and I’ve already worked on 4 different projects: red scarf, gray scarf, 6-inch squares from stash, and one wild pair of socks. Who knows how many more I’ll get to by midnight tomorrow? Gee, I wonder why I never seem to finish anything. . .

I actually like the fish song. It’s so ridiculous that I laugh every time I hear it!
I’m working on one project at the moment. I made mittens during the Olympics but made two left hand mittens by mistake so now I’m rectifying that with a right hand mitten. Then I might start on the scarf. I also have a sweater to work on and a pair of socks, but I don’t think I’ll have enough time to get to them. I really want another snow day!

I’m still working on my Olympic Knitting–an Aestlight shawl out of Wollmeise from a recent TLE update. The yarn is lovely, but I am bored with the edging and worried about running out of yarn.
I got my first sock kit today and am in love! I want to knit with that yarn now.

Attempting project monogamy for a change, I’m working on a sweater out of some of my handspun.
Speaking of spinning, it seems like a long time since any new rovings have visited The Loopy Ewe . . . .

I should be working on two, a pair of socks for a coworker’s niece and my Cinxia sweater. But, it’s just the sweater. I really need to get the socks started. I’m using a worsted weight so they should fly off the needles.

I’m working on one. A sweater with the body finished a couple years ago. I quit when I had trouble correcting the errors in the pattern. Now it is in hand and on its way. I prefer one at a time now instead of putting things aside when the going gets tough since it feels so good to actually finish a project.

Christine said,
March 8, 2010 @ 8:53 am
HA!!! I worked on FIVE!!!! one sock on magic loop (my first time), one strap that was going to get felted (for a purse), another bag just cast on this weekend, a “quilt square” out of sock yarn that has become huge cuz I don’t want to cast off, and a scarf that my daughter knit but I finished off….AND worked with my son on his Eagle Project outside all weekend (thank goodness for the above-freezing weather). Not doing one-upmanship, but just to say that after working with son, the “creative me time” was so urgent and necessary that I was willing to forgo sleep!
….and talked with college son a lot, since he has to make a decision. SHERI!! when they leave it gets busier!!! right? ARRGGGGG……ok…settle down…..go knit.

I currently have 4 projects on the go. I always do, in fact am considering starting another one. I like working that way because I never really get bored with any one project.
Plus if I buy yarn, and who amongst us doesn’t, I have to use it immediately! Even if I have no idea what to make or what stitch to try out (I am new to knitting).
I gave up mosaics to begin knitting and have never enjoyed something so much!

Thank you SO much for putting that stupid song in my head – arghhhhhhhh!
I’m on the first sleeve of Seneca by Jared Flood in Tosh Vintage Tart and it’s gorgeous. Very fun project.
Other projects are OTN – another sweater for my younger son, a second sock, etc. But right now I’m being faithful to Seneca.

I have four projects going and all of them are socks. One is a pair of baby socks and I hope to finish them tomorrow. Another is the second sock of a pair and the other two are made of self-stripping yarn. I hope to have all of them finished by the end of the weekend.
I’m glad I didn’t watch the Olympics and grateful I don’t even know what the filet-o-fish song is!
Carol said,

I sing that song too, but my version is “Give me back my fish sandwiiiiichhh”. Non-conformist. I like pretending not to know the words to songs.
