I love their yarn, their colorways, and their Irish names. It’s also wonderful to knit with. We added in their Glenhaven Cashmerino Worsted a couple of weeks ago, and I snagged this skein of Saoirse to make a pair of fingerless mitts for Elf Susan for her birthday (which was yesterday). This is my favorite fingerless mitts pattern, Mom’s Cabled Mitts. I love the feel of this yarn on my hands and am now looking for the perfect cabled scarf pattern to use with it. I’m also looking forward to knitting their Adorn sock yarn, which we just added in this week.
The glove stretchers in the photo were something I found in an antique store awhile back. I don’t recommend them – it took a lot of stretching to get the mitts on there! Fortunately that pattern/yarn has a lot of give. But it’s not something I would use on my mitts and gloves again.
Did you know that January is “Selfish Knitting Month”? That means that after all of the gift knitting you have done this fall, you get to spend as much time as you want (or at least the entire month of January) knitting things just for you. And if you didn’t knit any gifts at all, you can still do Selfish Knitting Month. That’s the rule and I’m pretty sure that all knitters must follow it or face stiff penalties. Just a warning.
We will have a new Quarterly Challenge coming along for the First Quarter of 2011. Tune in to the blog sometime between Christmas and New Years and I’ll let you know all about it!
Just a quick reminder about our holiday schedule. We will be out of the shop on Thursday and Friday of this week (12/23, 24), as well as Friday of next week (12/31). But do check back to the blog this Friday, as I have a great Chocolate/Peanut/Caramel/Sea Salt Bark recipe for you, and it’s another RAK Reporting Day!
