My Favorite Valentine and a CONTEST
Happy Valentine’s Day to you all! I hope you’re feeling loved by all of the special people in your life today. My favorite thing about Valentine’s Day is that it’s Knitting Daughter’s Birthday.
And here’s one of my favorite photos of her when she was about three. Now she’s all grown up and enjoying life at college. I don’t know where the time went between then and now. I’m pretty sure that it was just a few weeks ago that she was sitting on the kitchen counter and I snapped this photo. WH and I zipped over to Indiana to surprise her over the weekend. Not for the whole weekend. You can’t surprise a college student for the entire weekend and expect that they don’t already have plans! So we went late Saturday night and claimed Sunday morning (church) and Sunday lunch with her. It was a lot of fun and makes it a smidgeon easier to be this far away from her on her actual birthday, today. (HAPPY BIRTHDAY, JULIA!!)
So that’s my favorite thing about today. What’s your favorite thing about today? Leave your message in the comments below and we’ll run the random number generator on Friday, to see who wins some beautiful red yarn. See all of those skeins in the photo? We’re pulling prizes from there. We made that to put up on the webcam for you today, hoping you feel the Loopy love!

P.S. We do have an Update going up later today. Watch for new multi-colors of Universal’s Cotton Supreme, Namaste bags, Soak, Sajou Scissors, and misc. knitting gadgets!

My husband “leaving” for work, then returning with hot drinks for everyone – it’s become somewhat of a tradition now, so its an expected “surprise” – but still appreciated by the kiddos and myself!

I love that every day is Valentine’s Day for me. My husband is always loving in everything he does for me. He packs my lunch and snacks and fixes me breakfast while I am getting ready in the morning. He leaves the house 1.5 hours after me, but he wakes up at 5:00 just so he can do that. Otherwise, we wouldn’t see each other until evening.

My favorite thing about today is that everyone expresses some sort of love, when otherwise it would be left unsaid. When I was a kid, we always got fun little gifts from Mom letting us know how much she loved us. My son made a HUGE Valentine’s card for his whole class and wrote nice comments about each one of his classmates on it. In a world full of hate, one day when most people celebrate love is definitely welcome.

My favorite thing about Valentine’s Day has to be celebrating it with my two boys. My older son made cards and a gift at school, hid them in his room, and ran in with them first thing this morning. My younger son said over and over this morning, “I love you so much.” It’s the first time he’s said all those words together, and I know it’s because he’s heard me say it thousands of times!

My favorite thing is that Valentine’s day is that it is all about celebrating me & my husband and our relationship…. and it doesn’t focus on children, having children & trying to start a family. Or fertility drugs & treatments. It is a welcome break from all of that, especially since infertility is just so stinkin’ hard. I am so thankful for a chance to just focus on us! Happy Valentine’s day!!

I don’t really have a favorite thing about today. The BF and I don’t really do anything special. In fact, this year we get to do muffler shopping for the car and take out the garbage! Past years I have tried making meals or even just having hot chocolate ready when he comes in from the cold, and it’s been alright. I’ve just never really been into making this a day where you have to do something special, we can show our love any (and every) other day.

My favorite thing about today…I was given another day with my husband and daughter. Today is bittersweet as my husband is undergoing tests after finding out his heart is sick again. Today is about hearts and love. Loving someone the way you love a spouse or child is like living your life with your heart on the outside…vulnerable to all the joy and pain life brings. So easy to get hurt but so lucky to have the gift that it truly is.

Here in Norway we don’t really celebrate Valentine’s day, even though the stores are doing their best to convince people to celebrate. I like the idea behind it, just not that it’s expected to buy gifts or spend lots of money on each other. Also, I’m afraid those who are single may feel left out on days like this, and that’s no good.
So, I guess my favourite thing about today must be that it’s a Monday, and time for another sneak up!

My favorite thing about Valentines day is the years with my children filling out valentines for the class and the reasons that they had for giving certain people certain valentines. I still remember my son saying that he could not sign a valentine card with a heart on it for a girl named Amanda because she might think that he lilked her and he said that he could not like her because she was bossy.Lol. They are in their early 20′s now and have flown the nest but the wonderful memories are here to stay. Happy Valentines day Sheri and Happy Birthday Julia!

Hmmm…favorite thing about Valentine’s Day? Gosh, I love so much about it: finding just the right card for my husband, coming up with something to give him, anticipating the celebration, getting all gussied up and going out for a fancy dinner w/o the kids…
We’ve had some pretty memorable Valentine’s Days: one year I was 8 months pregnant with a broken foot and on strict bed rest; one year I was on crutches with a broken foot, etc.
This year since it falls on a Monday, we had a getaway Friday to Saturday and we’re having a nice dinner at home tonight with kids. I’m going to make stuff everyone likes and do lots of red food and/or heart-shaped stuff. Should be fun!

After 2 divorces, I don’t get too excited about Valentine’s Day. However, the TSA agent at the Philadelphia airport was wishing all the ladies a happy V day this morning, and that was cute.
Plus, I LOVE RED YARN!

My favorite thing about today “Valentines Day” is that it’s like having an all-day pass to eat chocolate! And of course, spending time with my husband of 18 years. It still feels like we met yesterday. He is truly my best friend.

You know, being single today means that I don’t have to focus my affection on a singular person. I can share my love and admiration for ALL of my friends. Free hugs and kisses to everyone.
That’s my favorite thing. And conversation hearts. Love those overly sugary things.

Esther Price chocolate! I always buy some for myself (in addition to what my husband is giving me) because I love me!
I also like a day where you can express affection and love for your family and friends without having to have a special reason. Not that you ever do! But it’s a nice reminder to think about who you love and to tell them you do.

My favorite part about today is that my husband and I don’t actually celebrate Valentine’s Day. Since his birthday is two days before (on the 12th), we have a big blowout celebration for his birthday, and then we don’t have to worry about the stress of Valentines Day. His birthday present this year: knitted convertible fingerless gloves – by his request!

The fact that I get to live with my husband instead of being 1000 miles apart, like it was when we were dating. We’ve been married 16 years, and getting to see him every day is still one of the best things ever. Of course, there are days when we say to each other “Shoo! You bug me!”, but those days are few and far between.

My favorite thing about today is remembering how my Mom always did something special for me on Valentine’s Day when I was growing up. It might be a stuffed animal I found on my bed after school or a heart shaped box of candy or a funny card with glittery hearts that would fall out when I opened it or a new shirt or whatever…but she never forgot and I always felt loved.
I just passed the 10 year anniversary of her death, and I miss her every day, but Valentine’s Day to me will forever mean a smile and a loving memory of my Mom.

The kids and I will be having tomato soup and heart shaped grilled cheese sandwiches (the 5-year-old boy will finally eat those now – he used to think they were “girled” cheese sandwiches) for supper, then spend the evening sorting through the Valentine’s from school.

I love to shop for Valentine’s cards for my husband. Long ago I gave up trying to limit myself to just one, so it’s fun to see if I can find 3 or 4 for him. I go for the “blubber factor” – if reading it makes me tear up a bit, that’s the one! Trying to surprise him with cards and candy usually works, but somehow this year, I ran out of shopping time and ended up putting the candy into the bottom of the shopping cart that HE was pushing. Next year maybe the problem will just be hiding it until Valentine’s Day.

Oh my goodness, do I spy some Art Yarn goodness in that picture? My favorite thing about today is that it truly celebrates my favorite color – red. Christmas can be almost any color now; so I revel in spreading red cheer in small sections all over my house. And I can place my vintage Valentine’s around to remind me to hug my husband with just one more squeeze. He’s been mine for thirty-seven years and I hope thirty-seven more.

Like several others here, my husband proposed on a Valentine’s Day. I was in a bad mood because I was just getting over the flu, and all day he’d acted like he’d forgotten what day it was. He kept bugging me to cook him something, I’d b*%ch that if he was hungry he could get up and fix his own (&^% food, leave me alone. Around 10pm I got so tired of his whining I gave in and threw together some Hamburger Helper. We eat, with me glaring at him the whole time. “Could you at least get the dishes?” I said. “No,” he says – and before I start yelling at him he says “Thought I’d get you dessert instead” and pulls the ring box out of his pocket. Dug himself into the doghouse all day just so I wouldn’t see it coming!

I think my favorite thing about Valentines Day is eating guilt free chocolate ! Thanks for the giveaway chance – the yarns are lovely.

My favorite thing about Valentine’s day is watching my son’s feelings about it change over the years. He used to be my sweet little Valentine, but now that he’s 10, Valentines is a yucky girl holiday. He decorated his Valentines box at school to look like an incinerator – complete with lava on the inside. It just cracks me up!

Today is special because we’re doing something out of the ordinary. DH broke his wrist on 1/11/11 and had surgery a week later. Due to the surgery and pain medication his employer won’t let him back to work for another four – five weeks. So, we spent the day volunteering in our son’s class and had lunch with him too. It was something special to do as a couple and parents.

my husband HATES valentine’s day, which is a bummer, ’cause i love it. he begrudgingly will do things, but as a concession, we never do valentine’s things NEAR valentine’s, but almost never ON it. so, on friday, we went to our favorite bar where they had beer and local chocolate pairings and then to an italian restaurant for dinner. it was a lovely evening and really reminded us of how much we enjoy each other’s company, which is kind of what valentine’s is all about.

My favourite thing about today is that Lucy, my foster dog, let me pet her for a minute.
Lucy came to me last week from a hoarding situation, where she was kept in a tiny crate outside for her ENTIRE LIFE. As such, she’s really quite traumatized, has major fear issues, and doesn’t even know how to really be a dog. So far, I’ve taught her how to walk down stairs, how to walk through/across a puddle, and how to go potty outside. She’s never done any of these things before, everything is new. She’s terrified of people, and cringes & trembles when you get too close, so the fact that I was able to touch & pet her is huge. She’s got a veerrry long way to go, but I have great hope for her future.
Just touching her, though…that totally made my day.

My favorite thing about Valentines Day is watching the children in my class celebrate. We make it a full day celebration ( I teach kindergarten) incorporating math (graphing and counting candy hearts), and reading (Valentine rhymes) and even manage to “cook” heart sandwiches. No matter how many years I have been teaching, it is always a fresh experience with the new students.

Hi Sheri – lovely that Julia is having a birthday today – my sister’s birthday is today too !!! She is older than your Julia – I have been lucky enough this year to spend a whole week in Florida with six of us together, first time in over 30 years that we could all get together at the same time for more than a Christmas or Thanksgiving – this was fabulous sister bonding time and we celebrated Kathy’s birthday (Feb 14) and got to cry and laugh until we peed our pants and we were so loud the neighbours came over to see what was going on – I am missing my hubby for the first time in 25 years away on Valentines – and my doggy – but I think my favourite thing about Valentines is that we can celebrate it every day … I am grateful to be able to do that. I also think that the colour RED and LOVE are two of my favourite things. And my sister having a birthday today. It is a very special day. Happy Valentine’s Day to all of you. xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxo to all my knitting friends

Hi
Happy Valentine’s Day. My favorite thing about today is so far I got to babysit my two grandkids, watching them fall asleep for their naps is so sweet. Then later I’ll go out to dinner with my favorite guy (husband of 40 yrs) at our favorite little restaurant and have our favorite meal. Not fancy – just favorite.
Thanks for the contest, Sherie!…and happy birthday Julia!

My favorite thing about Valentine’s day is surprising my three boys with a treat bag when they get home from school. This year I knit them each a little mochimochi heart. I also love to volunteer in their classroom and help with their party. They are still little so it’s “Cool” when mom shows up at school!

We also exchange books, the girls get the boys books and they do the same. So at the end of the day we all have something new to read!

My favorite thing about today is that my parents have always combined my birthday (February 10) with Valentine’s Day, which results in several days filled with lots of love and family time. We make it a point to celebrate how much we love each other all year but there is something really nice about having a specific time to express how much we appreciate being together. Valentine’s Day is a wonderful holiday because it does not involve money or materialistic desires as occasionally provoked by holidays that can create the need for wish lists. Plus it reminds me of my late grandfather as we used to celebrate all of the birthdays in one month at the same time at my grandparents’ house when I was a kid. I never liked how loud the parties were at the time but I really miss them now.

The fabulous thing about today in particular is that it looks like my dog is going to make it. He got hold of DH’s albuterol inhaler yesterday and pierced a hole in it. We nearly lost him, but he has turned the corner today. Yay!

To me Valentines Day is a time to give to those you love…not just a material thing, but, something from your heart to make them feel special. Hybby and I were the recepients this morning of a nice man “paying it forward” we didn’t know him and he left before we did, at the restaurant we were having breakfast, we discovered that he had paid for our breakfast and wished us a Happy Valentines Day! Nice.

I work at a chocolate shop over Valentine’s Day. I love seeing the mix of people. While there are always a few people looking for the cheapest, smallest or easiest thing to show they care, so many people try to make a real show of their affection. It doesn’t have to be expensive, but when they make sure that a chocolate assortment only contains the favorites or they buy something not chocolate because their SO doesn’t like chocolate it shows that they really think about each other.

Today the sun was shining and the temps got to the mid to upper 40′s and that’s something to celebrate here in CT. It means the snow is slowly melting and spring can’t be that far, can it? Got some cute Valentine cards and yummy chocolate from some storytime children, too. Most of us in the library wore red and so did so many children and grownups. Nice to see everyone feeling the love. Everyone seemed cheery; must be the red. Gotta love it. Happy Valentine’s Day!

So: Happy Birthday, Patrick. I just KNOW you didn’t get another greeting just like this.

My favorite thing about this Valentine’s Day is having reached the point long ago that my husband and I can both say ‘I was going to make a card for you but didn’t’ and be fine with it. We went to happy hour at our favorite gourmet pizza place at 3, where it was half full instead of a wait, then got sweets and bread at their bakery to go with soup and salad dinner later. We followed up with a 5:30 show of The King’s Speech where there were about a dozen other people, all couples.
On the walk home through downtown we chatted about everyday stuff and looked in the windows of crowded restaurants at lots of couples tring to have intimate and meaningful conversations. Now I’m in front of a fire with a cat on my lap and a cup of tea thinking this was my kind of Valentine.

This year, it was when 5yo, who calls meatloaf “meat love” asked me if I could make “meat love” for Valentines Day since it has the word love in it. How could I refuse! So, I made heart shaped mini meatloaves for dinner. Hubby and I had a romantic date the weekend before so our Valentines Day was for the kiddos!

My favorite thing on Valentine’s Day is the fact that it is for letting people know how much you love them. Of course you love them all year round, but it is not always expressed like it is on Valentine’s Day.

I got to work across the hallway from the Floral Dept.. I loved seeing all of the beautiful arrangements going out the door to loved ones. The smell wasn’t bad either. And later in the day…I had time to knit! Gotta love that.

My favorite thing about Valentine’s Day was watching my son write out his name on his Spiderman Valentines for his first Valentine’s Day party at school. Plus I love surprising my husband. I usually remember Valentine’s Day and my husband usually remembers our anniversary.

for me, just having another year with the holiday with my hubby, this one makes number 19! This year of course just before dinner we had a huge storm come through knocking out the power, internet and phones for close to 10 hours. So needless to say i am happy i had cooked early and we kicked back for the evening with candles and the generator watching movies. Forced romance! lol

My favorite thing about Valentine’s Day is how happy everybody is. And yes, we love each other all year long, but there is nothing in the world wrong with taking time on a special day to make certain you gaze into each other’s eyes and tell them you love them.

My favorite part of Valentine’s Day this year was when I woke up to find that my husband had not only set out flowers for me, but also for my sister who was visiting for the weekend. She had agreed to watch the kids for him so he could take me to lunch while she was here, so he figured she needed some Valentine’s flowers as well. I was so thrilled that he remembered her too!

My favorite thing about Valentine’s day is giving little presents to my loved ones without the stress of the expetations that come with Christmas/holiday gift giving. That, and the fact that my husband and I usually cook a special meal together.

My favorite about Valentine’s Day is having Mr. Wonderful as my DH. This our year of health and I’m happy that he is taking care of himself by doctor appointments that he has been putting off. Also we joined a gym and are working out together. I don’t need any other gifts to know he loves me.

My favorite thing to do on Valentine’s Day is to cook a special dinner at home for DH and me. No need to go out and get frustrated with crowds. We can have a romantic dinner at home with no driving! This year Valentine’s also landed on the same day as my weekly knitting group…….they are a special group of ladies.
