Spring Fling – First Night

We’re having fun Flinging! Last night was our Dessert Reception and the opening of the Knitting Lounges. There were lots of caloric choices.

Including Chocolate cake. Mmmmmm.

Somehow Del got her own pie, hand-delivered by banquet manager John. I still didn’t get a straight story about how she did that, but she looks happy about it, doesn’t she?

My sweet friend Janice comes down from Iowa every year to help me with the Fling. Usually she’s on her best behavior, but clearly the desserts got to her last night as she tried to make off with the bowl of whipped cream …

There was much knitting going on.

And then I brought the Fling teachers to Loopy to shop, since they will be teaching classes all day today and tomorrow during the regular shopping trips. (L-R: Kirsten Kapur, Laura Nelkin, Anne Hanson and JC Briar.)

Wishing all of you were here with us this weekend.

Mother’s Day Kits!

We’re taking you to the beach with this year’s Mother’s Day Kits! It all started with fabric that cracked us up, featuring beach babes made out of fruit. :-) We had Karen at Blue Tulips make up the beautiful project bags for us (and she started sewing back in December, so you know we’ve been planning this for a long time!) The bags are fully lined and have a clear vinyl pocket on the inside, for accessories. The bottom is square for easier sitting, and it’s about 9″ tall with a drawstring closure.

Jill at Studio June dyed up her wonderful Super Cash Sock yarn base (80% merino, 10% cashmere, 10% nylon) in this limited edition “Beach Glass” colorway. There are 435 yds. in this skein of fingering weight yarn, so it would be perfect knit up into socks or a scarf or a cute one-skein shawlette.

To round it out, we added in a flower tape measure, because everyone needs a flower on their special day. And we liked how the pull at the end of the tape measure is a leaf.

Whether you buy it for yourself or someone you love, we hope you enjoy this little beach vacation kit. You can get your kits here, while they last.

Tornado, Fiberphile and Three Irish Girls

Thanks so much for all of your emails and messages about the bad weather here on Friday. This has been a bad Tornado Season so far, and I would like it to be over now. We (our house and Loopy) are in the Manchester/Des Peres area, and the Elves live mostly in Kirkwood and Chesterfield. This particular tornado hit about 20 minutes north of us, at the airport. (Spring Flingers – the airport is back up and running at 85% so I’m sure all will be well for this week. No worries!) So sad to see the neighborhoods that were flattened by it up there, though. Like I said, we can be done with Tornado Season now.

This is going to be a crazy week, so I’m not sure what blogging will be like. We have all of our Spring Flingers flying in for a fun weekend! I’ll pop onto the blog with pictures as often as I can. And remember, you can keep an eye on the Loopy Webcam on Friday and Saturday, to see if you can spot any of your Flinging Knitting Friends!

On to the news – we have pretty things in tonight’s Update for you. Just added:

Fiberphile – Georgia continues to dye up some of the most gorgeous semi-solids that I’ve seen. This time we have re-stocked Squooshy (shown here – first photo – in Turkey Hill).  This is great for socks and one-skein shawls (like Citron, Winter’s MornSaroyan, Seaside Shawlette, and 28′s Cousin 53.)

Three Irish Girls – More of the Glenhaven Cashmerino Worsted (that makes beautiful sweaters, scarves, hats, mitts, and heavier shawls, like Tesni, Summer Flies, and Mara.) We also received more Adorn Sock (fingering weight) and their Glenhaven Cashmerino Fingering. (This Cashmerino is so soft and wonderful. A great merino/cashmere/nylon blend.)

You’ll also find our exclusive Three Irish Girls April Colorways – one a semi-solid (Black Bird Singing in the Dead of Night, a gorgeous purple color) and one a multi-color (Hard Day’s Night, a fun purple/pink/lime/black color).

Spirit Trail Fiber – in Helen. Jennifer’s beautiful colors on her 100% Superwash base. Also great for socks (like this one with the cool heel) and one-skein shawls.

Chic-A – Fun project bags in several fabric styles. We’ve been waiting on this order for months, so I’m glad that we can finally share it with you!

Enjoy the shopping and I’ll see you back on the blog, soon!

Winter/Spring/Summer

It’s hard to know what to expect out of the weather around here. One day we have this:

and the next day the flowers are blooming:

and the Rhubarb and Hosta leaves are in a battle for control of the soil.

Then we go back to a day like this (cold rain):

Craziness. I keep thinking it’s time to pack up the wool socks and then we get a day where I really want to be wearing them. Is it officially Spring (and warm) where you are? Have you packed up your wool for the season yet? (I know some of you are heading INTO the colder seasons now, too.)

New Loopy Wear!

Well it’s clear that I need a whole new top row of buttons on my computer. Thanks for weighing in with your one-click suggestions on Friday’s blog. There are 14 buttons on the top row of my keyboard (the one that starts with the ESC button), so I figure I could easily add 14 more just above that. After reading your great ideas, I have decided that my 14 buttons will be:

Coffee Break (which I started with), Dinner Delivery, Nap, Stop time for 1 hour, Bonus Money, Fast Forward to Quittin’ Time, Chocolate, Knit, No Interruptions for an hour (Diane said a half hour, but I’d need an hour), Sample It, Oh Shoot (to recall an email that you sent by mistake), Swatch It, Grocery Shopping, Automatic Bill Pay, and Instant Masseuse. That ought to do it. Makes life and work much easier.

(And I laughed at Pat’s response: “My husband already thinks I have a Loopy Ewe button that brings me yarn!” Loopy would look cute on a button.)

Do you know what else Loopy looks cute on? Sweatshirts. We have a new color/style for you in today’s update. This time, we ordered Navy Zip Up Hoodie Sweatshirts and had Loopy embroidered on them, for a nicer look. They turned out so cute and the sweatshirts are a substantial weight, so they cozy you right up. They come in sizes Small through 3X and are uni-sex sizes, so they run a little big. Although I like my sweatshirts a little on the big size, especially ones that I wear as a jacket.

In addition to Loopy on sweatshirts, we also have new short sleeved t-shirts. We put one of our favorite knitting quotes on there (found on an old sampler) that says: “In the rhythm of the needles there is music for the soul.” (We also used that quote on the Baggu Bags in the March Club Loopy Kits.) We got these in chocolate brown (mmmm, chocolate ….) and they also come in sizes Small through 3X. This is ladies sizes, slightly fitted, 100% pre-shrunk cotton.

Also up in today’s Update you’ll find:

Universal’s Cotton Supreme Batik (in fun new colors)
Spirit Trail Fiber’s Sunna (that gorgeous blend of 75% superwash merino, 15% Cashmere, and 10% Bombyx Silk)
Dream in Color’s Smooshy (re-stocks of your favorite colors)
HiyaHiya Dumpling Cases
(which have been on backorder for a long time. Sorry about that!)

Lastly, as many of you have already discovered, our third and final Spring Club Loopy kit went up for sale at the end of the week last week. I’m waiting on posting photos just because so many of you have them en route and I know you like to be surprised. But if you click here, you can see photos and you can order one for yourself. We do still have a few kits available from February and March. Each kit contains the exclusively dyed yarn for that month, two patterns, and a different size/color of Baggu Bag with a different knitting quote. We’ve had fun with this Spring Club Loopy Trio, and thank you for all of your nice emails about them. I’m glad you’ve liked them, too!
