A New Slouch Hat
I turned to this hat because I was making a boring-to-knit cowl and needed something to get my knitting mojo back. The idea was to knit 4 rows on the cowl and then spend the rest of my knitting time (for that day) on the hat. Of course once I started in on the hat, I had no desire to go back to the cowl, so I haven’t touched it since.
This is the Skinner Hat by Melissa LaBarre, knit up in a new yarn line that we’ll be adding in to the shop soon. (Still under wraps, but I love the yarn.) It’s a 50/50 merino/silk and knit up beautifully. The hat is long so that it slouches in the back when you wear it. (Or if you have Rapunzel braids, I would imagine you could tuck them all up in there and keep them warm and dry.)
Guess who else likes merino/silk blends? Zoe had a good time checking it out.
“Mine?”
I thought I’d celebrate Thanksgiving week by giving away a few things in the blog this week. It seemed fitting to share some extra prizes with all of you, since YOU are at the top of The Loopy Ewe Gratitude List this year. Today’s giveaway – 5 of you will win a copy of this pattern, just because I liked it so much and want to share it with you. If you’d like to be in the running, leave a comment below. We’ll announce the winners on Wednesday’s blog (where we’ll then have another giveaway to share with you.)

Now that Zoe has a new hat… My two new kittys love wool, but I’m trying to teach them to not love it so much. So far, they’ve torn apart a skein of Art Yarn (bad kitty!) and some hand spun. Must store all yarns in plastic bags now. Happy Thanksgiving!!

slouchy hats rock! lol at kittys fondness. I forget what i had knit with last year but the cowl i knit my moms boyfriend, the cat became obsessed with! I had to knit up a small mouse with the remnants just for kitty so she would leave his cowl alone.

Since Camp Loopy I’ve knit five or more shawlettes/shawls and loved every stitch of ‘em.
BUT, since it it mid-November and the weather here in mid-MO is achangin’.
I’m finishing up my very first slouchy hat. When I win one of the patterns you generously are giving away, I’ll be knitting my very next slouchy.
??????? When are we going to have a chance of getting our hands of this new wonderful sounding yarn?????
thanks for all you’ve done for my knitting world.
hugs

I would love a new hat pattern. I’ve been making hats for all seasons for my sister who is undergoing chemo and intensive radiation treatments for colon cancer.
I also love merino/silk yarn. It has a wonderful glow and shows off patterns so well.
My two, five month old kittens, also love yarn. Plastic bags are no match for their very determined teeth and claws, shred, shred, shred….

The approaching holiday season makes it easier to “justify” starting new projects & buying more yarn – gifts that “might” get finished for giving. I get more done when I leapfrog/rotate amongst my projects – then knitting is always “fresh”.

Careful, Sheri – my cat, Ganache, decided she liked my Chorley Wrap (knit with $120 worth of Rowan Big Wool) so much it has become a very expensive cat blanket, instead of a wrap for me!!!!
(I have to admit, it looks better against her black fur than it does on me.)
She also tried to claim a sweater of mine, but I managed to rescue that one.

The hat is really cute. The cowl – you’ll get back to it at some point – and then it will be done. I have a child’s vest to get back to, but haven’t gotten there yet. Basically, because it was finished, but I didn’t like the crocheted edging so I took it off – but the last place that it needed to come off – well, I accidentally cut the wrong yarn – therefore, I am going to rip the whole thing out and start over – what makes matters worse, I have twin grandsons so therefore when I finish the first one for the 2nd time, I have to make another one for the 2nd twin.

Hi Sheri! Beautiful hat and I love the pictures of Zoe. Something about a cat checking out knitting is great! Is she the one that likes to lay around on your WIP if it happens to have a certain fiber content? Hate to say it, but go back to cowl. The sooner you finish it, the less you’ll have to worry about finishing it and finding other projects to interest you. If you are anything like me, it doesn’t take a boring WIP to “help” me find another project.

Love the shade of blue in your hat! Gorgeous yarn. Blends with silk or bamboo with wool are my favorites to knit with. The FO are always so beautiful! And of course I would love to participate in your generous giveaway.
Thanks!

I like the hat! I have a few projects that I’m not wild about at the moment too, so I make a deal with myself that I knit two rows and then I can move onto something more fun. Except usually, I forget to count so I get more than I intended. Which isn’t necessarily a bad thing since it will get these kiddo mittens done faster! I learned a bad lesson this year, not to let this kid pick out his own color. He chose “make-your-eyes-bleed” yellow.
Ugh.

Sheri, you can go back to the cowl… I know you can!!! It will be finished one of these days… It is amazing what you can do if you just give it some of your attention! I had a tedious knit this year, of a child’s cardigan with semi cables in the pattern all through the cardigan. I will never knit that pattern again, but I pressed through and finished the cardigan because it was a “Nanna Knit” for my youngest Grandie and I had already told her I was making it for her, so I was stuck. I took it to work with me every day and during my lunch hour break I would grab a cup of coffee and knit a few rows until it was time to head back to work. Surprising how a few rows each day added up! My Grandie now has a cute cardigan, and I have moved on to other projects, including the Camp Loopy episodes! Even if I am not the winner of that beautiful hat pattern, I hope you will consider doing a few rows a day on that cowl and imagine how good you will feel when it is off your needles and you can go on to other projects guilt free (from at least that cowl project!!!)

I am grateful Brian survived his heart attack last night. We called 911 very quickly and that helped to limit the damage to his heart. Angioplasty successful, stent inserted, awesome husband love of my life comes home tomorrow.
PSA – per the paramedic – if you THINK you’re having a heart attack, call 911. If you wait too long to see if it ‘will go away’ that means more heart muscle damage and more complications.
