We’re Celebrating with a CONTEST!
This month we’re celebrating our Sixth Loopy Anniversary! We officially opened our virtual doors on August 1, 2006. We’ve shared a few of these photos before, but celebrations are all about pulling out the scrapbooks and fondly reminiscing, right? Here is a peek at our Loopy (virtual) scrapbook.
The shop started in a tiny corner of our basement, not much bigger than what you can see in this photo – about 90 sq. feet. This was our first group of in-store shoppers. This corner worked well for the first couple of months, and then someone (that might be me …) just kept ordering more yarn and we needed more space.
We decided “who needs a basement?” and expanded from the little corner, into the rest of the finished area that we had.
We had to stack boxes on our front porch and in our front hallway, waiting for the mailman each day. Some days, there were a lot of boxes!
After a year at home, we made the move to office/retail space a few blocks away, and that was our Loopy home for the next 4+ years. After our first year there, we doubled the space by knocking down the walls and taking the offices next door. That was fun, although it made for a bit of an interesting (weird) floor layout.
Last December, we put everything on two large moving trucks, and moved to our current location here in Fort Collins, CO, about an hour north of Denver.
With 4500 sq. ft. here, I’m hoping we will have enough room to put off any other moves for the time being. You all need to come visit so that you can walk in here and look around that corner. It goes down a long way, and every bit of it is filled with yarn! (Here’s a peek down one of our four long aisles.)
Of course none of this would be here without YOU and your incredible support. We love hearing from you, we love pulling and packing orders for you, and we love seeing what you have made when you finish your projects. So often, our yarn companies and indie artisans tell us, “You guys have the BEST customers!” and we totally agree. You are the best. We sure appreciate you.
In celebration of our six years, we will be doing a few different blog contests this month, in addition to a couple of other things. This week’s blog contest question is: How long have you been with us at The Loopy Ewe? I know we have six year Loopy veterans who ordered that very first week, and one day Loopy newbies, who discovered us today when they saw the sign on the building and popped up to see us, hoping “The Loopy Ewe” had something to do with yarn. Leave your answer in the comments below, and we’ll do a random drawing next week for some Wollmeise Lace, that I saved just for our anniversary contests.

I think the first time I ordered from the Loopy Ewe was in 2008. I loved the treats and the fact that I could become a loopy groupie. It made yarn buying that much more fun.
Still buying from you! Happy Anniversary!
Holly said,
August 3, 2012 @ 6:17 pm
Hmmm, NEARLY since the beginning.
Although space constraints have prevented me from buying nearly as much yarn as I’d have liked to over the years, I’ve watched your success from the sidelines with interest.

I think I ordered first 3 years ago – from Germany! I remember waiting with bated breath for my package. It passed customs – finally – and I had such gorgeous yarn to work with. It seems silly to order from so far away, but there was a specific color of a specific yarn I absolutely had to have.

I discovered TLE in July 09. I had just ventured into sock knitting seriously, had gotten a wonderful book which featured Smooshy. I was so taken with the colors I searched for a vendor and, voila, there you were. I was fortunate to be able to visit the new store in April when I visited my daughter in Denver and spent several wonderful hours (and quite a few $$) immersing myself in Loppy wonderfulness. I’ve almost completed all 3 projects for my first Loopy Camp and look forward to seeing you again in October! Congratulations on your anniversary!

I think it was just two years ago that I discovered The Loopy Ewe. Maybe three. I had only just gotten back into knitting after the invention of the internet recently – so I was SO loving the huge variety of options available out there. The Loopy Ewe was one of my first websites bookmarked. OK – I just checked my Ravelry page to see when I signed up for that… 3 years. It was at the same time.

I placed my first order in July of 2008 after hearing about the Loopy Ewe on a knitting podcast. Back then, I was new to sock knitting and went crazy buying sock yarn. Even though I’ve cut way back on my yarn purchases since then (I can’t knit fast enough to keep up with the stash!), I still check the updates every Monday night. I’ve ordered everything from sock yarn to knitting bags from Loopy and have recommended this site to anyone who appreciates great customer service and wants to buy beautiful yarn and knitting accessories. It’s been fun to see how much Loopy has grown. Congrats Sheri and team!

My first Loopy Ewe order was Mother’s Day 2011. My unprepared family said they would take me yarn shopping to honor me. They did not realize Sunday is an unpopular day for yarn stores to be open. So I shopped online, ordered new-to-me yarns and ordered enough for free shipping. I am a regular shopper and enjoy Camp Loopy.

I can say I’ve shopped from all three versions of Loopy, but my favorite was shopping there in person with my two sisters and my niece, Hazel, this past January. Several family members were stalking us on the webcam and enjoyed watching Hazel and Sheri hang out as we shopped. Happy Anniversary!

Thanks for many wonderful years of product service and looking forward to many more.

I was listening to podcasts (another new discovery) and heard about you from Lime and Violet. I have enjoyed your company since then, the customer service is something all companies should strive for. Best wishes for many more years of successful business, and wonderful products

I’m guessing I placed my first order about 3 years ago. I heard great things about a yarn with a funny name – Wollmeise ! Hmmm it was April 32, 4638 A.D. Yeah, I know that sounds weird, but I’m one of the Loopy Time Travel Groupies. You’re in all the history books, you know. No study of the invention of intertemporal mail-order service is complete without the story of the anonymous knitter who invented it in order to get your yarn. And those inexplicable shortages of Wollmeise? Sorry about that. Sells at auction here for the price of a townhouse in Slope Park, wherever that is.

I’ve stalked TLE for a while – about a year – but put in my first order just last month. It may have been my first, but definitely not my last. Sherri and her elves are amazingly helpful and their photos on the web page are about as close as you can get to actually looking at the yarn.
TLE also does all kinds of great fun stuff on Ravelry – Camp Loopy and other interesting ways to stretch your knitting skills. That is the best part of Ravelry and knitting groups in general. When you knit at home by yourself, you may not be so moved to stretch your limits as much as when you take ownership for a project on a public forum.

I have had my eye on you for a few years…but never had the money to purchase some nice quality yarn. My first purchase was in May, I finished a shawl in June, and it is being given to my amazing mother this Christmas. I think that definitely justifies my first purchase and has created the addiction of being a life-long Loopy customer! Even if it is a little at a time!!

I am not sure how to answer. I found your blog, Sheri, back around 5-ish years ago – I remember reading the funny ones like I remember one about ways to sneak knitting into family time, like Thanksgiving. My first order though, was just this past June, to participate in Camp Loopy.

Hmmmm…I think around a year and a half, when my beloved LYS closed and I needed to find a new source of decent priced yarns (there are two other LYS in my area, but they both carry über expensive yarn that I wouldn’t use to make anything for children, and you ask have those amazing hard to find brands!). Keep it up!

My first order with Loopy was April 13, 2010. I know because just yesterday I was going through my Wollmeise stash on Ravelry and uploading pictures and such, which I tend to put off — especially for the Wollmeise — because I like to try getting the color balance just right.
I came for the Wollmeise, and honestly I still try to snag some whenever possible, but imho my best find here has been your Solid Series. I absolutely love that stuff. I’ve got 19 colors, and while I might not be trying to “collect ‘em all!”, I do want to keep adding to my available color palette.

September 2009! I hadn’t been knitting very long and wanted to try socks… and I heard on Ravelry that TLE was THE place to go for sock yarn! Got myself some 9″ circulars and a Zauberball. Been shopping Loopy ever since!
Was thrilled to visit the shop when I was last home to see my parents… sad that Loopy moved, but they did too (just not to Colorado) so I don’t know when I’ll get to visit again. But your shipping and service seriously cannot be beat!

Now since this June 26th I have been unable to knit or spin do to breaking my hand. I’ve sent so many people your way, and every one of them always says how nice and friendly the service is. That’s b/c Sheri, at the heart of it, loves what she does and shares that enthusiasm w/those who work w/her and order from her. May TLE enjoy many many more years of yarn excellence.

My first purchase from The Loopy Ewe was in person at the 2009 Sock Summit in Portland OR (where I live). I bought a red Namaste Knitting Buddy – a color exclusive to TLE at that time – and a TLE carabiner measuring tape. I still have and use both of these items!
2009 was my first Sock Summit experience. I forgot and didn’t log into the Sock Summit Web site until a half-hour after it opened, and as a result, I did not get into a single class
(Later I signed up for waiting lists and lottery spots to no avail.) My participation was limited to spending an afternoon at the marketplace. I recall meeting Sheri in person; she was so nice as we talked about her exclusive red Namaste Knitting Buddies and all of her fun TLE brand goodies. I only had 3 hours to spend at the marketplace, and I’m sure I spent at least a half-hour of that time in the TLE booth because I felt so comfortable there.
(P.S. With respect to Sock Summit, I was a LOT smarter in 2011. With my prioritized list of classes I wanted to take, I logged into the Web site 15 minutes early and clicked the page refresh button until the classes became available. Thus I got ALL my first-choice classes!)

I am not sure how long ago I discovered The Loopy Ewe. I am guessing at least 4 years ago. I have been in a Friday night knitting group 2006, and I was checking out the projects of one of my fellow Friday night knitters – I noticed that she had several projects made with yarn from The Loopy Ewe, and I was wondering when she went to St. Louis to purchase this yarn – I am not sure how long it took for me to discover that she had not traveled to St. Louis, but had purchased the yarn online – sometime after that I started reading your blog. I read it religiously. I have enjoyed reading about all the different types of yarn that you carry and also the patterns that you recommend. I am embarrassed to say that I have never ordered anything from The Loopy Ewe, because my stash needs to be knitted down. I am working on it, and with the closing of my LYS in February, there will be a need for me to order – so I will be ordering in the future. I was looking forward to visiting the new location in Fort Collins, because 2 years ago my daughter and her family moved to Broomfield, CO – I had plans to visit on my next visit. Well, my next visit was this past June for 2 weeks, but it was a working visit and time did not permit for me to get to Fort Collins. My daughter had surgery so I had to be there to help her out, cook, keep the laundry going, and take the grandsons to whatever activity – and the 2nd week that I was in Broomfield was busier – my son and his family arrived – so now there were 6 grandchildren and 5 adults in one house – so it was constantly hopping – plus we had a dinner celebration (that I made) with some of my son’s college friends to celebrate his 30th birthday – so therefore, I never got to The Loopy Ewe. To make matters worse, my son in law got a job transfer, and my daughter and her family just recently moved to the San Francisco Bay area. I doubt that I will get to Fort Collins to fondle the yarn, but I will definitely have to order in the future. Thanks for all your wonderful pictures, stories, recipes, yarn and pattern suggestions – I really enjoy it.

Your my favorite yarn shop! Loopy has the best yarns. If i didnt live in VA i would not have to stalk you all the time. I can’t remember how long that’s been going on.
But I do know my first purchase was beautiful blue sock yarn by Farmhouse Yarns in cornflower in 2009! I made some great socks for my hubby.
I will be buying some more yarn as soon as I complete some projects, otherwise the husband may notice the stash is growing again

June 2007 was my first purchase, but I’d been hearing ecstatic ooh-ing about yarns in that basement shop on a podcast for months at that point. Shopping and flinging with Sheri and the gang holds a special place in my heart……..and many places in my stash:)

I had read Grumperina rave about you. We first met that June when I was searching for yarns the color of a peony in bloom in my garden. The Loopy Ewe had just the color in, I think, Malabrigo.

I plotted and schemed how I could get my husband and twins to St Louis so I could visit, but stopped when you moved to Fort Collins – which is about 2 hours drive away from me!

I remember being so in awe of being able to look at and touch such lovely yarn. Since then, my knitting group and the Loopy Ewe (which became my LYS) contributed mightily to my taste for luxurious yarns like Wollmeise and Madtosh. Only able to be a website shopper with The Loopy Ewe. I’ve been ordering from you for alittle better than a year now and will continue on for many more. Trying to talk my husband into The Loopy Ewe as a vacation destination. Congrats on 6 years.

It’s exactly 2 years since I started ordering from the Loopy Ewe.
It also coincides with when I started to knit “seriously”, since that is also the summer when I really settled into my stay-at-home-mom-of 4-kids routine.
My first order has a “Happy 4th” discount and most of it has now disappeared into various projects, etc.
I would love to visit your store in real life, but to be totally honest, I have never had a good yarn shop near by and rely on the power of the Internet!

Tuesday, August 15, 2006 was the date of my first order. Three skeins of yarn–two were Schaffer Anne, one skein became a Citron just last spring, one skein has been on the needles forever becoming enterlac socks, and I have no clue what happened to the third skein! My most recent order was just last week! I think you could call me a loyal, satisfied customer!! Thanks Sheri and the Loopy Ewe elves for becoming my favorite yarn store!

I placed my first order from The Loopy Ewe on March 10, 2008, when I bought two skeins of Claudia Hand Painted Yarn in the color Circus Dancer. I was so happy with that order that I began to check your site regularly, from which I learned about many other yarns, and I placed an additional 128 orders since then. Slowly but surely, our home has become well insulated with these lovely purchases. Not only have I had countless hours of fun and pleasure from what I bought, friends and relatives have received gifts of finished projects and yarn.

CONGRATULATIONS SHERI!! To you and ALL the Loopy team.

Technically I’ve been a groupie for 3 years. I ordered some Cascade 220 that I thought I would not be able to get in order to finish my cardigan. I think I found you using a Google search. Then I made the cardigan and didn’t come back to the online shop until 2 years ago when I was looking around blogs and I found a mention of Loopy. It’s been fun and I love the yarn I got when I became a groupie. It was unexpected and lovely.

I made my first purchase with you this past May. It was your wooden sock blockers that brought me to your site. While I was admiring the sock blockers, I did some reading on your blog where I discovered Camp Loopy and I was hooked. My first purchase was to start my first Campy Loopy project. I had to look back to see when I placed my first order. It really can’t be that long ago … 3 years ago my SIL, Wasie, told me I had to check out TLE and ravelry. With 6 yarn shops less than 10 miles away from me, I thought, “Why order online?” It did not take long to realize that the yarns at TLE were special and the color photos were as good as IRL (I would go to lys’s to check the real life colors) and I could always figure out if there were enough skeins or colors in stock. Besides fantastic yarn, TLE is a fun place and shipping is fast (yarn is always on front porch on 2nd day after my order was placed).

I placed my first order in April, 2011 (I went and looked up my account). But it feels like I’ve always known Loopy Ewe. I rarely shop for knitting supplies anywhere else even though there are several LYS that I can drive to in only 20 minutes or so, and one that I can actually walk to. I only use them for emergencies – like last week when I snapped one of my interchangeable needle tips in half while tightening it. The yarn selection is fantastic – my wishlist can attest to that, and the customer service can’t be beat. You make every customer feel like a personal friend and that nothing is too much trouble. Happy Anniversary!!!! and many, many more!!!!!!!

Wow, what a wonderful success story. Not surprising considering what thoughtful, conscientious folk work at TLE mind you!
I was delighted to find the shop online in 2009, though I didn’t place my first order until Jan. 2010 after a long period hemming and hawing over what to buy.
I’ve never looked back (though my stash definitely increased once becoming a Loopy Groupie!)
Thanks for all the work you do Sherri and all the elves – TLE has obviously blossomed. Congratulations!

FROM THE VERY BEGINNING!! I think my friend Katie and I were among the very first few customers to come to that little corner of your basement!! I remember the arrival of the very first order of Wollmeise, when we called my German friend and she translated all the colorway names over the phone. I really felt like I was part of the Loopy family…getting to know you and your husband and kids through all the early days. And the expansion into more of the basement…and then to all of the basement…and then out into Loopy Central…and the First Fling…and…and…and… I might have even been the last “in-person” customer in St. Louis (oh yes…the elves let me in a couple of days after the official close, but don’t tell anyone!). My stash is a true tribute to Loopy in all his glory!
Now you’re so far away, and this summer we went to the Caribbean instead of to Colorado, but we’ll hopefully be stopping by next summer.
You’ve done a great job. Congratulations on all your success!! (And save me an anniversary kit please!!)

Oh, I know a couple of those first customers!
My first visit was a mini road trip across the mighty, muddy Mississippi with some friends in 2009. I’ve been hooked ever since on your amazing selection of yarn. I was saddened by your move, since it meant that my pilgrimages to the yarn-Mecca would be much less frequent. I love the Internet, but it is still lacking the interactive tactile experience.

It’s a good thing you folks have a history. I know it has been years, but I would not have known it was April 2007 without the lookup. I would have had to go with I heard about The Loopy Ewe on Lime & Violet when they were talking about camping out on your lawn and needed to find out why.

My niece Samantha introduced me to TLE about 3 or 4 years ago. The first thing I bought was a skein of Sanguine Gryphon in the colorway Mortal Marriage. As it turned out I ended up making the Clapotis larger and came back for a second skein. The thing that impressed me most was your awsome customer service and attention to detail with each and every order whether it be a single skein or a blankets worth of yarn or a complete set of needles. You have been there to help with describing colors and offering advice as to which fiber would work best on a given pattern when asked. Who could ask for more. I just wish you were around the corner so I could stop by to sit and knit with you and the elves, as though you had time. Thank you for all you do to make my knitting a joy and I wish you many many more years of success.
Almost forgot, I really love the Summer Camp. Couldn’t participate this summer, waiting for next summer to come.

Wow, I wasn’t sure, so I went back and checked. I made my first order in February of 2007, after hearing about you at wendyknits.com. I think I’d been making fantasy orders for several months before I made the first real one! But I had no idea you’d only been open a few months at that point. I thought I was late to the party!

I think I’ve been shopping at Loopy for about 2 years now! First found them while looking for LYS in St. Louis, checked out the website, and was hooked! Unfortunately, I’ve been living in Chicago for the past 5+ years, so I never got to visit the actual Loopy store before they moved to Colorado… but I’m sure they’ll have plenty of happy new walk-ins there! Thanks Sheri and the Loopy Elves for always taking the time to carefully wrap my yarn so it survives shipping, and for shipping so hastily! You’re the greatest!

I think I discovered Loopy in 2009. I was heavily into mini swapping and quickly bought all the sock yarn that my local yarn shops carried. They didn’t have much…no Mal, no Mad, no Claudia, no Lorna, etc… And then there was you. A yarn shoppers dream! Because of you I learned what it meant to have a stash!
The best part of my summer 2011 vacation was visiting you in St. Louis. We were heading to Branson to meet up with my husbands family. I said we are stopping in St. Louis for a night. He said, “Are we really going to detour our vacation so you can go yarn shopping?” To which I responded, “We are going to Branson of all places to meet with YOUR family for a week. You better believe I am stopping at The Loopy Ewe for a day!” BEST PART OF MY VACATION TOO!!!

I was a customer in 2007 and 2008 and then put my knitting aside. Now I’ve rediscovered the hobby and I’m working through my sock yarn stash. I’d so love to buy some new yarn ’cause there are lots of lovely things available.

I’ve been reading your blog for a few years now, but I’m a newbie to ordering (for a long time I never made online orders because I didn’t have a credit card).

Hi everyone at the Loopy Ewe – you are an inspiration to everyone who at one point wanted to own their own business. It was a dream of mine, but I would rather be one of the knitters who make your dreams come true. I would rather teach knitting and send everyone to you to buy beautiful yarn. I am starting knitting classes in my basement – with cats and lots of yarn to practice/learn with, so I hope to send some new knitters your way. Good luck and many, many more years of success. Denise

Hi Sheri,
I’ve been following your blog since just before you started your move to Fort Collins! I’ve visited Fort Collins (but it’s been quite a while) and it is a fabulous area. I could live there!! Anyway – love your blog, love your store and maybe one day I can actually get there to visit. I’ve just finished my first sweater – so excited! Now I just have to wait until it’s not 110 out so I can wear it. I live in Phoenix, so it will be a while yet.
Keep writing and I’ll keep reading – and shop one day. I would really love to do Camp Loopy next year.

My first order was in November 2008. Had to look up the date in my account, but I remember the order, Alpaca with a Twist Fino, because TLE was the only place I could find it!

I found the Loopy Ewe in the summer of 2008. I was recovering from a huge surgery and undergoing Chemotherapy. On pump days I would self medicate by ordering beautiful colored sock yarn. My favorites were Elf knoll farm, fleece artist and handmaiden.

I think I started shopping with the Loopy Ewe almost 2 years ago. I was looking for a specific color in Dream in Color Smooshy and couldn’t believe all the color choices available! When I received my package, I felt like a special customer because there was a little gift and a special note addressed to me. I have been shopping with you all ever since! Happy Anniversary!!!

I discovered TLE on their 3rd anniversary, 3 years ago. Only bought 1 item that year, but my rate of purchase increased dramatically in the subsequent two years. Even managed to score some wollmeise! Love the selection, the service, the fun activities that engage us as a community, and hanging out with the groupies on Ravelry.
Happy anniversary to Sheri and the elves! Keep up the great work and the fun you provide us all

Hello all!
I’ve been with Loopy for about e years now, actually just a bit longer than that. I have loved every box I’ve ever received, even though I already know what’s in it. It’s more fun than opening a box with jewelry in it.
Best of luck for a long future!

I first heard of loopy ewe when I used to listen to lime & violet the podcast. They would talk all the time about all the beauitful things they got and stalking updates. I just had to see what it was all about. Shortly after I became a loopy groupie, and I’ve always wondered what spring fling was like. Congrats and I wish you many more happy bisverseries!

My first order was in June 2007! I ordered a shawl pin by Romi. I seem to remember hearing about your shop on podcasts and blogs, and when I went looking for this particular shawl pin, I stumbled across your site, and the rest is history! Thank you so much for introducing us to all these gorgeous yarns over the last six years! Happy Anniversary

About a month after you opened in Fort Collins. I heard a rumor there was a new yarn shop in town and after some inquiry I scored and found you. I love how many hand dyed yarns you have and am always tempted by more than what I started out to get. A great addition to the area as well as finding you online!

I had to look to check – it was 2008 when I first ordered and it was a Namaste Laguna bag which has since gone to handbag heaven due to all the love it received. And since I logged in to check when that order was, I was inspired to fill up my cart.
Happy anniversary!

I placed my first order with The Loopy Ewe on June 3, 2008 and In July, 2008 I became a Loopy Groupie. I have been lucky enough to attend Spring Fling in 2009, 2010 and 2011, and was officially renamed Ricia by Sheri in 2009. You all will always be my favorite LYS no matter how far away from me you may be. I hope you keep celebrating Anniversaries for many years to come.

I would have to say its probably been about 4 yrs. I was living in Kansas City & when I came home (St Louis), my sister told me about this new yarn shop that had very limited hrs or you could visit by appt. so of course I had to see it. Was very, very sad when I heard you were moving to CO! Miss you, but thank heaven for the Internet !
