Today is a No Mail Monday (Happy Columbus Day here in the U.S., Happy Thanksgiving in Canada!). That means we’re closed at the shop today and that is a nice way to start back to work, after being on vacation for several days last week and through the weekend. I’m putting in a short day here at Loopy and then heading home to unpack and do laundry.

I had a great Girls Trip last week – thanks for your well wishes! We rented a house on Smith Lake (near Birmingham, AL) and had the best time catching up and relaxing. There are 12 of us, and it’s hard to get all 12 there each year, but it’s always fun with the people who are able to attend. We all met as scrapbooking consultants back in the 90′s and have had many fun weekends and trips together over the years. It was so fun to get away and spend time with them last week.

Here is part of the group, hanging out on the deck:

The house we rented was beautiful, and right on the lake.

Here’s the view from the deck:

We spent time chatting on the deck, as well as inside the house:

On one of the days, we went into Birmingham for shopping and checked out the Botanical Garden, too.

Now I’m back into Loopy mode, ready for a fun week! We don’t have a Monday Update tonight, but we’ve been collecting shipments of new things for next week’s update. Check in on Wednesday’s blog where I’ll be doing a contest to win a free skein of yarn from a brand new indie dyer line that we’re adding in. :-)

  1. Oh dear! No update! How will I ever spend my $25?!

Glad to hear you had a great time. I’m sure if you told all of us where you were going ahead of time, you’d have to rent a coliseum! Looks like you had a wonderful time.

  2. Well, since I placed TWO orders last week, I guess it’s a good thing there’s no Monday update!

But I’m totally using yarn bribes to stick to my diet and exercise plan, so I have the perfect excuse to buy more yarn later on!

Here’s how that works: I’m using a Fitbook (you can get htem at Target) and they recommend rewarding yourself if you meet your goals every week over the 12 week period. A skein of yarn or some new needles is just about perfect, wouldn’t you say???

  3. Hopefully the weather was nicer for you on your vacation than it was for us an hour north of where you were. Boating on smith lake is always nice.

  4. Aww how fun! I am from Denver – not far from the “new” TLE location, my family now lives in KC – not far from the “old” TLE location, and I now live in Alabama not far from your lake vacation spot! LOL At least you had some nice the Alabama autumn weather while you were down here!

  5. I’ll admit that my week while you were on vacation was possibly the worst week ever. I spent a lot of time window shopping at TLE, because if I had bought all of the things I’d been even remotely interested in I would have been broke enough to not get back home. Now that I’m back home, the urge for some gentle retail therapy hasn’t really left. I’m looking forward to that introduction to a new Indie designer on Wednesday. I have to buy yarn for a hooded scarf for a friend.

  6. My late Mother-In-Law had 3 dear girlfriends – they had all become friends during their training days at Teacher’s College. They determined, soon after they graduated, to preserve their friendship and to go away for a weekend retreat every year. They did this each year during the 60+ years of their friendship, only stopping as they became too frail, in their 80′s to make the journey any more, and one by one they have passed on. We often heard about Mum’s weekend away with “the girls” – Enid, Ellen & Marjorie! Happy memories! Truly, friends are a marvelous blessing to possess.

  7. It is so nice to see friends and spend a “girly” weekend! The pictures look great and it sounds like you had a great time. Glad you are back!

  8. I am so glad you enjoyed your trip to Alabama! It is a lovely place. The botanical garden is a treasure that more people need to know about and Smith lake has been a vacation spot for families all over the state! The weather was a bit cool last weekend for this time of year but still lovely.

  9. It looks and sounds like you had a great time with your friends! Good for you! :).
Can’t wait to see what you get in for next week! :).

  10. I’m glad you had a great trip! I grew up on that lake and spent my high school/college years as a camp counselor there. Thanks for featuring my hometown! I miss it!
