Hats!
We’ve had some hat knitting going on around here lately, and they are all turning out great. Hats are a quick gift knit, in case you’ve started thinking about what you might want to make for people this season. Here’s a Sockhead Hat that I knit out of Biscotte & Cie self-striping yarn.
I love how the striping makes a bullseye as you get smaller near the top.
Here’s an adorable Swirl Baby Hat that Loopy customer Christine brought in to show us. This was also knit with Biscotte & Cie, with the flower & band done in Three Irish Girls.
Loopy Elf Roberta got in on the hat craze by making a Sockhead Hat out of Baah! yarn in one of their striping colors.
Need some other fun hat pattern ideas for yourself or friends and family? Try:
Fingering Weight: Peerie Flooers, Ishbel Beret, Bristol Hat, Zigging Hat, Collision, Oslo Star Hat, and Ripple.
Sport/DK Weight: Jacques Cousteau, Lina, Autumn Vines Beret, Sea Beanie, Zelda Cloche, Contemporary, and Golden Autumn.
Worsted Weight: Windschief, Who?, Claudia, Waffle Hat, Nine Dwindling Cables, Twistygoo, The Natural, and Milanese Lace Topper.
Do you have hats on your gift list? What else is on there this season?

I am currently making the Lucy hat from Knitscene Winter 2012 http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/lucy-hat-2
It’s a fun pattern and I’m hoping to finish it this afternoon!

I’ve knit one gift hat so far. It’s from Interweave Knits Holiday Gifts – the Peppermint Hat by Celeste Young (a 2 color hat) . I’m knitting it in red and white for my niece with matching solid color fingerless mitts. I just finished the same pattern in what I call “chocolate mint” for one of my sisters. Knit from Lorna’s Laces Chocolate Brown and Sage and will start the Sage fingerless mitts to go with that. I plan to include the “coordinating” chocolate mint candies with the gifts (I think you can get Hershey’s Kisses in the red and white mint and of course those Andes green and chocolate mints)

I’ve been meaning to knit Elsica by Woolly Wormhead for two years! I have the yarn…just need to find the time. This is the year I do it! Also looking forward to Woolly’s mystery KAL, which takes place next month – I did it last year and it was a lot of fun.

I made the Dizzy Beanie from Berroco a few years ago.. I used Dream in Color Classy–3/4 of the skein–love this hat and it’s super easy to knit in a day or two!

Oh dear…this is the first time I’ve seen this yarn!! I’ve added several skeins to my wishlist. It’s gorgeous! Also, is that Loopy’s Summer Garden used in the first hat? It’s soo pretty!!

I’m knitting baby hats, child sized berets, fingerless mitts, cowls and some doggie poo bags. Some of these things are for gifts and the others are for sale at the rescue fund-raising table. I am also knitting socks and shawlettes for myself.
I want to knit something for the “Yankee Swap” game on Christmas Eve but my problem is age ranges from child to senior citizen and males and females. I might have to go the Starbuck’s gift card route again!
I’m open for suggestions….

Thanks, Sheri for more neat hat patterns. I have been looking at a bunch lately and I think I have settled on Norie by the Shetland Trader. I also like the Floppy Fairisle Hat which is a free pattern on Ravelry. I think I would also enjoy making every hat from Weekend Hats, an Interweave book. It is windy and overcast here in St. Louis today – a good day to cast on a hat.

The stripy hats are all gorgeous! I love how the stitch pattern on the swirl hat makes the stripes appear to be a checkerboard pattern!

Almost as much as knitting shawls! Thanks for all the pattern suggestions! Now I can whip out my gifts lickety-split! Those Bisccotte & Cie. hats are fantastic, by the way.

Only ever done 1 hat, which I believe is halfway around the world right now. A friend saw Knitted Tams on my loom one day and specifically said NOT to make him one
Thinking I should find something yummy to make one for me

I love the hats, but I am limited to crocheting these days, because of Rheumatoid Arthritis. Are there some equally cool crocheted hat patterns? Thank you, in advance.

What size needle did you use for the Sockhead hat in Biscotte and Cie?

I just made the Sockhead hat last week with my Camp Loopy yarn! It turned out very nice and soooo soft (cashmere).

I would like to add one more awsome hat to the collection mentioned in the blog.
I bought this pattern a couple of years ago and still havn’t made it. Now with this little nudge I went into my patterns and pulled it out. I really need to make this now. Best part is I have just the yarn for it.
I didn’t have hats on my Christmas list but if time allows I think I’ll add a couple. My Christmas is a little more than half done. This year I had special circumstances. In my family we had a very special year of birthdays. Those turning a new page, Aunt 90, Sister in law 80, older sister 70, and younger sister 60. Since this incredible event was for 2012 I really wanted to finish everyone’s gift before Christmas. I’ve been working on both together. Christmas Gift Knitting include wraps, shawls, knee socks, shrug,
capelets and cowls. Cliff House Cowl so far is my favorite of those done.
Finally, let me say my order this week arrived today and I am very very excited about it. To me this is real treasure. I hadn’t heard about it and called TLE to ask and was told what a lovely yarn it is. It’s even better. It’s Shepherds Wool from Stonehedge Fiber Mill. I planned on a guernsey but when I saw and felt the lucious wool I changed my mind. This wonder denim color was meant to be a Dark and Stormy. Now just need to finish Christmas Knitting so I can make something for me.

I have wanted to make the Ana bandana (http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/ana-2) ever since I first saw it on a blog years ago. I don’t know if you can get in the pattern, but I’d totally buy the yarn and knit that hat!

Any suggestion on working the short rows after the 4 rounds of purl? After knitting 35 stitches, WT, then isn’t it purling instead of knitting 10 WT- now you’d be on the third row knit to 2 sts past previously wrapped stitches, turn now were back on purl and the direction say to repeat the last row (row 3) So do I knit to the original row 1 (35) or row 2 (10). Is it knitting back and forth on the 10 stitches or the 35 stitches? Thanks!
