dsc022751I can tell that Christmas is next week, because my mind has reverted to thinking in lists. Somehow that makes everything seem more manageable to me. (Never mind how MANY lists there are to think about. If I only have to think of 3 things at a time, it all seems more do-able.)  So today it is time for another Three Things blog.

Three favorite things that I have received recently:
1. This creative “Loopy” drawing by Carlo, Elf Sue’s son (who came to work with his mom last week) I asked for more so that we can put them on the Loopy refrigerator. :-)
dsc0226012. The crocheted Loopy that the nice people at Malabrigo sent to us for fun. (No wonder they wanted to take my Little Loopy when I saw them at Stitches!)
3. New yarn from Yarn Pirate, Tuscan Grove, and Spirit Trail Fiberworks. But I know that I don’t get to keep those.

Three favorite songs for the holidays:
1.  O Holy Night
2.  Silent Night
3. I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas

Three songs that I’m really really tired of hearing:
1.  Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer
2.  I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus
3.  Same Auld Lang Syne

Three things I need to finish up:
1.  Scarf (cashmere kit from Jade Sapphire)
2.  Scarf (Purple Spangle, from Jojoland)
3.  Scarf (Chevron, with Fiesta Boomerang. I will not start a new one until this one is finished. I will not start a new one until this is finished.  I will not start a new one until this is finished.)

Three more things I need to finish up:
1.  My second Transition Glove. (Apparently my second sock syndrome applies to gloves, too.)
2.  My second Malabrigo Sock
3.  All of the other second socks (approx. 35. ahem) that need to be completed.

Three things I’m anxious to knit after the gift knitting is done:
1. These fingerless mitts from a new indie dyer yarn I’m trying out.
2. Socks out of a new pattern that will go up on our Free Patterns page soon, out of Creatively Dyed Calypso.
3. Scarves (the addiction is apparently not over yet. I am waiting for it to pass.)

Three things I found this week that bring back memories:
1.  This pincushion. There was one in my grandma’s sewing basket and I always thought it was colorful and fun!
2. This slush mug.  My brother and I both had one and we kept them in the freezer at all times.
3. This video.  A favorite when the kids were young.

Three things on my schedule for today:
1.  Orders!  We’re still swamped from this week’s Sneak Up but we’re all pulling and packing as fast as we can to get them out to you.
2.  Emails. I am woefully behind. Why? See #1.
3.  Unpacking boxes of new yarn that have come in this week so that we can get it photoed and up for you.  I think the next Sneak Up will be the Friday or Saturday after Christmas. We have lots that has arrived to get up for you. (We will do a few re-stocks in the meantime. I have more Jojoland yarn and patterns that will be here in a day or so, in addition to a few other things.)

  1. I have so many things to do for Christmas as I am having everyone here for dinner, that I think a list may not even help me, but now that you mention it, yes, here is my must-do list for Christmas Day.
#1 Gaze at smiles around the table.

#2 Make time for special conversations.

#3 In many different ways, let every person here that day know how important
    they are to me.

  2. My 3 Things to Share:

    1) Have that same pincushion given to me by a dear friend, who also now owns our LYS in town.

    2) I also had that same Slush Mug when I was a kid. Are we dating ourselves?

    3) Christmas gift knitting is done. Just working on ME Things and trying not to get too stressed about the upcoming Holiday.

    (OK, 4 things)

    4) I keep the Post-It-Note company in business with all my lists.

Have a wonderful Christmas, Sheri & Elves.

  3. I now feel better about my Christmas knitting, knowing I am not alone. My lists overfloweth too! Thanks for taking the time to blog in your busy schedule and have a wonderful holiday.

  4. three things I want to finish by year’s end (first 2 by Christmas)
    1. Stulpen mitts
    2. Riblitts mitts
    3. stealth project

three things I’m neglecting in order to do above
    1. prayer shawl knitting
    2. Lindy (my wheel)
    3. housework (okay…okay I was neglecting that before.)

three things to knit in new year
    1. finish my Daily sweater
    2. Alice Starmore Oregon sweater (very long term project)
    3. more Snow on Cedars mitts

    three things I wish
    1. I had more time to knit
    2. I lived close enough to visit Loopy Central
    3. all my Loopy friends a happy hoiday season and wonderful new year.

  5. Three things I’m looking forward to:
    1. My end of year vacation: 12/25 – 1/4 (eleven whole days! And I only have to use 3 days’ worth of vacation time to get it!)
    2. Knitting a LOT during vacation
    3. Madrona Fiber Festival in Feb – I have a couple classes I’ve signed up for and looking forward to this will get me through the post-holiday doldrums.

  6. 1. My son gave me that same pincushion for Christmas when he was ten or so.

    2. My Christmas knitting is finished and sent off as of Monday. Now I start on sewing for the little one.

    3. And I’m just about sick of Christmas songs in general. A local radio station started 24 hours of Christmas music on Nov. 11th. What a way to celebrate Veterans’ Day.

Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

  7. Three things I noticed this week:

The greyer the day, the more attractive orange yarn looks. I ordered some Black Bunny orange yarn from you last night, and some orange yarn to make a neckwarmer at the weekend.

I have my highway back! After a whole year of taking back roads, highway 40 is reopened, at least the bit I use. I even got to play on the highway the day before the big opening. My drive to work is now 10 minutes shorter.

When the back gate is frozen shut, don’t try and hit it open with your wrist. Really, bruise-purple isn’t a good skin colour on anyone.

  8. Growing up in England, The Red Balloon was a staple movie experience. I hadn’t thought of it in years. Thanks for bringing back the memory. I don’t think my American born children have ever seen it.

  9. That is a long list of three things! Still, I guess when things that need to get done are broken down like that they seem more manageable. My three things are the three gifts I have yet to finish: one pair of socks, one pair of mittens, and one sweater. That sounds doable to me, as long as I don’t think about how big the sweater needs to be and how little of it I’ve done already!

  10. i am actually far ahead of the game this year. This is only because work has been almost dead! which means lots of free time to do things but no money…catch 22 i think!) All i have left aside from planning the xmas meal…is to actually fill the baskets for friends and neighbors and bake sugar cookies, that’s seriously it! (please refrain from throwing hard objects at me..skeins of yarn will do nicely! smile)

  11. Just one question? Do you think Colinette Jitterbug is thick enough for a chevron scarf? Wanting to start one and don’t really have any sport weight yarns in the stash.

  12. My three things to do today:
    1. Get through work, the kids are all taking semester exams and it is so quiet in the library.
    2. Get a Blackberry Cowl finished and blocking
    3. Get started on an Amanda Hat.

  13. Three things I’m trying to finish before Christmas:
    1. Beaded Swallowtail for a dear friend
    2. fingerless mitts for daughter’s teacher
    3. socks for the mother of a friend

Three things I”m neglecting to finish due to above:
    1. Figure skating outfit for daughter
    2. Vacuuming
    3. Folding laundry (which is actually one of my favorite chores!)
(OK, 4) 4. Waves of Grain shawl for another friend

Three things I can’t wait to cast on after Christmas:
    1. February lady sweater
    2. another lace shawl
    3. second socks of several pairs
(ok, 4) Loopy Sock kits and Wollmeise sock kits not yet done

I do love lists because I can cross things off as I do them!

  14. Three things I am tired of
    1. Below zero temperatures
    2. Snow
    3. Sick kids.

Three things that make me happy.
    1. Finished my first lace project. Still need to block it though.
    2. The Little Buddy telling his daddy this morning “I love you”
    3. Cleo Coyle Coffeehouse mysteries

Three things I wish I had more of
    1. Spinning time–Wheel has been sadly neglected as of late.
    2. Knitting time. Too many projects not enough time.
    3. Money. Too many great yarns online right now.

  15. Three shifts left to work til vacation! yea!
    Three pckages to mail
Three terrific children(DS1,DS2,DS1GF all grown up) and DH to celebrate with

    Three more things
Happy, safe and lovefilled holiday to all.

  16. I’ll share 3 things that are making me smile these days:
    1. My 5 year old son who cannot keep a secret and keeps telling me little bits about the gift he made for his father and me.
    2. Fudge.
    3. Malabrigo (worsted) knits up much faster than I would have thought. I’m going to be able to get a hat done for my dad. :)

  17. Three things:
    It’s raining
    It’s raining
    IT”S RAINING

After two years of very dry weather this is a good thing – the only worry is mudslides and flash flooding after all the fires.

Staying at home in the rain with hot tea, my knitting and my cats. Oh yes TJ’s orange cardammon star cookies!

  18. Oh – The Red Balloon. It’s one of my all-time favorites. I have the book and I have fond memories of watching that movie in school when I was a child. It’s funny, but I’ve been thinking about it lately – and nearly purchased the DVD. Maybe this is a sign.

As for three things – these are the first three that come to mind and appear in no particular order, much like my mind today :-D . . .

    1. It’s cold here, and snowy.
    2. I’m going to attempt to make Snickerdoodle cookies for a cookie exchange
    3. I can’t understand how you can make those Feather and Fan scarves so darn quickly. I’ve been poking along on one FOREVER. :-D

    A :-)

  19. I’ve been feeling really overwhelmed lately (and I’m a natural pessimist), so I’m trying to focus on positive things:
    1. Sunday will be a wonderful, relaxing day at home
    2. I have knitting group after work today and at lunchtime tomorrow
    3. I was able to order the Sundara sock yarn that my sister wanted to give me for Christmas.

  20. I baked a batch of my two sons favorite cookies today. Had a little disaster, but
they turned out fine. Finally got past ripping out a sock for the fourth time,
and there is a package waiting for me in the office where I live and I didn’t order
anything, so it must be a gift. I love Christmas music. I hope you and
yours have a wonderful holiday. Going to start some new socks for my cousin.
I know that’s more than three things.

  21. I absolutely love the hippo song!! My almost 3 year old is singing Christmas songs for the first time and I keep missing this song on the radio. I would love to hear her try and sing this one!! It’s cute to hear her sing, “Tinkle” Bells…LOL!!!

My three things to do today:

    1. Order the red pattern tamers that I’ve been coveting (done!!!)
    2. Decorate a wreath
    3. Air up my tires (in the yucky weather too – ugh!)

  22. That is a cute Loopy from the folks at Malabrigo. How sweet of them.
3 things I need to finish:
Something for the youngest daughter’s teacher. I have a pair of fingerless mitts I am close to finishing for her.
    Shawl
    Socks for the youngest.
Unfortunately sleep is what has been interfering with the completion of these items. I just can’t seem to get enough of it these days.

I also need to bake some Christmas cookies. I think I am going to make a batch of the sugar cookies you posted not too long ago.

Merry Christmas to you and the Elves and your families

  23. **Three songs I’m really tired of hearing:**
    1. The Little Drummer Boy
    2. The Little Drummer Boy
    3. The Little Drummer Boy

I love to listen to holiday music on the radio–except that you can’t get holiday music without this one, and it just goes on and on!

  24. I love the crocheted Little Loopy!

Three things I need to finish, not by Christmas, but relatively *soon*:
    1. A sock I’m designing for a sock club’s January shipment, and the pattern for said sock;
    2. Some sort of gifts for 4 friends (all mutual friends); I’m thinking of either dishcloths or those knit ornaments (from the Kalamazoo Knits patterns). No, I haven’t started yet! (We always exchange gifts each year, and this year one of the gals got the idea to exchange homemade gifts as a way to keep the cost down. I’m going to be missing the group’s get-together this Saturday, because I need to stay home with DD as she recovers from recent surgery. So that actually buys me more time!)
    3. My project for my Loopy swap partner!

Three things I’d like to knit as soon as the above are done:
    1. A pair of socks for my brother, who I already knew was a terrific brother, but recently did me a huge, above-&-beyond type of favor.
    2. A pair of socks for DD.
    3. A quick-&-easy pair of socks for me.
OK, this category has more than 3 items:
    4. The 2nd sock of a pair of Mingus (1st one is done).
    5. The 2nd sock of a pair that I’d started, originally for myself, but that I decided will be for a friend.
    6. Scarves & fingerless mitts for DD and myself.
    7. A sweater for myself! Probably FLS.

I need to get one or two of those slush mugs for DD, since she’s on a liquid diet for 5 weeks, plus I think they’d be handy just to have around. I’d seen The Red Balloon as a kid, but it’s been years since it even crossed my mind. I just might have to order a copy. (I’ve recently been purchasing dvd’s of somewhat older movies, most recently, “The Russians Are Coming”.)

Happy Chanukah, Merry Christmas, & Happy New Year to everyone! :)

  25. Hey, we have 2 out of three favorite Christmas songs in common! Actually, I only have 2 faves–O Holy Night is my favorite religious Christmas song, and I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas is my favorite secular one. So I guess I will do a 2 things list instead of 3 things:

    1) Two things I need to finish: socks for my friend’s mom (well, technically, 1 1/2. I just finished the heel turn and picked up gusset stitches this morning) and a couple little gifty things I can’t mention in case BFF Sarah is reading this.

    2) Two things I’m so over: winter storms and the remnants of my cold.

    3) Two things on my list to make next: Bella’s mittens from the Twilight movie (by request from a friend) and a scarf out of some Malabrigo to match the hat and mittens I’ve already made.

  26. Why did they make us watch that Red Balloon movie? I never got that….Well it was 1974 and I still remember it so maybe that is why.

I can’t believe I am losing my voice and not feeling 100%.

Why did my mother decide she wanted socks knitted from some nice grey? Didn’t she know I had already knit one Nutkin out of Spunky Eclectic in Lichen. I could claim green/grey mixup?

  27. My three things I am so happy/proud of:

1: My husband, who almost never does anything for me without me having to ask first, offered and picked up something for my work potluck.

2: Friday is coming up quickly and it is a shortened day.

3: I spent the time watching our school’s talent show and saw that one of my student’s is an AMAZING singer. (Apparently she’s on youtube.)

  28. I want to crochet a Loopy. He is soooooooooooo cute. I volunteer to test crochet too.

My three things I need to finish by Kwanzaa (gives me more time than Christmas)

    1. Finish all my holiday knitting (socks for my father in law, brother in law, and sons)

2 Finish a cute beret for my sister in law and niece.

    3. Finally knit something for myself. (The cute hat by Jared Flood in new Knit.1 mag)

I don’t think I’m gonna make it. They might get those fugly slipper socks for JC Penny’s.

My top 3 Christmas songs are

    1. This Christmas – Donny Hathaway

    2. All I Want for Christmas is You – Mariah Carey

    3. Let it Snow – Boys II Men

I used to work retail and listening the Christmas cd every day was torture.

  29. Thanks for listing your most sick-inducing Christmas music. I’m collecting regional un-favorites (usually due to being played too much) so am adding those to my list. Eventually they will end up in my usual gift to my music department friends, a CD mix of awful or overplayed or really weird Christmas Music. And Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer was on Vol. 1, but that doesn’t mean it can’t come back as “most hated in Ohio.”

  30. Three things this is the last week of the semester:

    1. Finals! I had one Tuesday and two on Friday (blah).
    2. The desire to knit – and I’ve been working on UFOs – yay!
    3. The weather is nasty, roads are icy and it’s freezing and I noticed that Frog Baby (http://tinyurl.com/58edta ) had her hat and scarf and even reindeer antlers.

  31. Three thing I’m looking forward to this weekend:
    1. Sleeping in (if the cats let me).
    2. Knitting on my swap partner’s gift. (It’s the most complex lace knitting I’ve ever done — pattern on both sides.)
    3. Getting out the sewing stuff and making a few additional things for above gift.

  32. My three favorite Christmas songs:
    1. The Nutcracker by Tchaikovsky
    2. Greensleeves (instrumental-only version of What Child Is This, amazing when played on a viola)
    3. Do You Hear What I Hear?

My three least favorite Christmas songs:
    1. Jingle Bell Rock (I had to play this in orchestra from 6th to 10th grade and it seems to be a department store favorite-gahh!)
    2. Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree
    3. Jingle Bell Rock (it seriously causes me to twitch)

I hope everyone at Loopy has a wonderful holiday!

  33. Three things I’m thankful for:
    1. my grandkids (we will be able to spend Christmas with them this yr)
    2. all the people who helped box up stuff for the troops from our little town. We thought we’d be sending 600 boxes but managed to send close to 800!!
    3. my husband (for putting up with me and all my yarn talk)

    Three favorite Christmas songs:
    1. Mary Did You Know
    2. Silent Night
    3. O Holy Night

I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas!

  34. I love I want a Hippopotamus for Christmas. It just gets completely stuck in the head.

As for the rest, I like Grandma Got Ran Over by a Reindeer, but it has definitely been overplayed this year. I also prefer I saw Daddy Kissing Santa Claus (Most of my holiday music is of the Twisted Christmas/Dr. Demento variety).

  35. 1. Purchase my brother/sis-in-law’s xmas gift for my husband and figure out how i got roped into doing that

    2. Get some sleep! My 9-day evil work trip has sucked me dry, and I need some serious sleepage to start feeling human again.

    3. Mail box of xmas gifts to my best friend for him and his family. Yes, I’m behind on that. See trip referenced in #2.

Oh well. The world won’t end if any of that stuff doesn’t get finished on time. Before I left, I was itching to start a sweater, so I’m hoping once I get some sleep that urge will return. Have a great weekend!

  36. I have informed everyone in my immediate family that, should we be out in public shopping together, and the song ‘I saw mommy kissing Santa Claus’ starts playing – they may want to wander far away from me and act like they don’t know me as I can no longer guarantee I will not start growling and hissing….that said:

    1. listen to good music I love to combat the many songs (including the Chipmunks singing jingle bells) that I’ve heard during the holiday season AGAINST MY WILL.
    2. finish my gift knit socks for the three kiddos
    3. cast on something entirely for myself and not feel selfish but have just a twinge of guilt so as to be justified in consoling myself with a chocolate covered cherry!

  37. When we saw thew Malabrigo guys at Stitches we told them they needed to make a little Loopy! and they did!

    1. Have to knit dishclothes
    2. Have to make mom a hat in Don’t Be Blue
    3. I just want to knit for me. Darn deadline!

  38. “O Holy Night” is my absolute favorite. I used to watch “Days of Our Lives” and an actress sang an a capella version that gave me the shivers. I *think* that actress later became the singer Desiree…. ???

Have you ever heard Kenny G’s “Millenium version” of Auld Lang Syne? That one gives me the shivers too. It’s really interesting listening to it in a mixed-age crowd….you get a feel for the events that mark our lifetimes and how old you were when something big happened matters!

My third thing to share: You know how you buy yarn for a project all at once—and double-triple check the dye lots, so everything matches? Well, I’m *finally* knitting up a project (two years + after buying the yarn!) and I noticed that the dye lot, while the same, appears to shift from a blue-ish to a more purple-ish tone….in the front and *very* visible. *sigh* Guess I’ll be frogging that part to re-knit it with one of the other skeins. What’s the point of dye lots, if they *still* don’t match? (Fortunately, it’s nothing TLE offered—I didn’t know about you then!!!! )

    Happy Holly Days.

    Anne.

  39. Sheri,

Here’s my trick for getting the second sock done; I knit socks that “match” by yarn. So I’ll knit a sock in a particular yarn and pattern and then I’ll knit the “matching” sock in the same yarn but a different pattern. I’ve discovered over the years that nobody really looks at your socks to see if they match exactly. Having the same color is enough and this way I don’t get bored doing the exact same thing that I’ve just done.
